The Soul Scene
YES, it most certainly is...undoubtably. OOPS! sorry I thought it said UP it's own arse!

Different Room Same Artist
Would have thought Jackie Wilson would also qualify although the term "Modern" may preclude him in some eyes. Pretty sure you'd get away with some of his later stuff though. EG: Club - Sweetest Feeling RnB - Haunted House, Lonely Teardrops etc Northern - Pick any 1 from 20! Crossover - You Got Me Walking, 70s - Because Of You, What a Lovely Way, Beautiful Day etc

Credit Crunch
"A record a day keeps the blues away". DEFINITELY. Crappy day at work - get home to a cheapie, brightens yer evening up. Football team got a hammering on Saturday afternoon - Get a filler that night dirt cheap, dullens the disappointment. Skint, but make the effort to get somewhere - find a W/Demo of a cheapie that you've never seen for peanuts - Hey Hey result!! Flush, got a few $$$ in the vinyl fund exactly same time as #7 of the wants list appears - No hesitation, slap down the wonga and drive 100 miles to pick it up. Get home, put headshell with new cart/stylus on tonearm, crack chilled beer open, place needle on vinyl, kick back and smile (Extremely SMUGLY) to oneself......BLISS! A record a day.......oh yes indeedy!

Ray Lewis
Certainly played here in Spain. I played it at the Indalo Soul Club gig in Mojacar and it gets played at the regular soul parties we have here. Great double sider but the SAHWMB does it every time for me.

Rod, PM'd you.

Stoppers On Jubilee
I've seen as many W/Demos as Stockers. Some say the stocker is harder though. I'd rate both at around the 100UKP if MINT-.

Horror Of The Stylus, How Often Are They Changed?
At the Hitsville gigs I prepare the Technics with brand new Stanton headshells, wiring kits and Grado DJ styli. I also have a spare set (brand new) standing by. Quite expensive, but worth the effort. Would be aghast if someone's 'Detroit Sounds of Friction' or the like got damaged. One of the worse nightmares when DJing in my experience is fellow "DJs", especially 'promoter types' coming up to the decks and 'fiddling'. If you want something done - ASK THE DJ! Don't start fiddling from over the other side of the decks! Especially taking records that don't belong to you off the platter! You're not doing the DJ a favour, you're fiddling with his 45s! STOP IT!

Soul & Tragedies
Yep, Tragedies for sure, although I'd still wager that Mr Davis wouldn't regard himself as a tragic figure at all. Hopefully he will be at SoulTrip 2009 Chicago and we can ask him his opinion. Bank's tragedy was really the fact that he was cut short in life and that his death went relatively unnoticed by his own peers for so long. I have to point out that Mr Wilson (Steve Mancha) is still alive, albeit not very well having recently suffered a heart attack and a stroke.
-
Soul & Tragedies
Yep. The person who shot him was a policeman. He was not 'working' at the time. It's generally accepted that Darrell Banks and the policeman's lady were involved in a 'liaison'. This resulted in the policeman, Mr Banks and the lady all being involved in an altercation in Detroit, the result of which was Banks was shot and killed.

Soul & Tragedies
What?? 1. Carl Davis is still involved in the business up to a point. I think he would take umbrage at the fact that you have lumped him together with people who were overlooked/impoverished by the music business. He's an icon in his own city/country - at least as much as in the UK. 2. Darrell Banks' death had nothing to do with being impoverished. He was killed in an altercation during what is best described as a 'domestic' incident. 3. Steve Mancha - DEAD??? When? Drank himself to death???? When exactly did this happen?

Tony Michaels
Any chance of a scan of the "Picture..." side Rob?
-
Tony Michaels
That's a good point actually Adam. Maybe the whole batch were wrongly labeled and so were binned. I've never had a correctly labelled stocker of Tony Michaels, anyone else got one? I'm sure they must be out there somewhere?

There´s That Beat
Have asked Bev and she has received Tanja's message tonight. She's dealing with it for you. Don't know what happened to the earlier emails. Hope you enjoy the mags.

There´s That Beat
Hi Gerd, We've received no email from you at our end. We have back issues of #1,2 5, 6 and 7. If you contact Bev at info@theresthatbeat.com with what you need I'm sure she'll sort it out for you. If anyone who needs back issues visits the website you can see what stocks we have. We now have limited issues of #1 and 2 back in stock for people looking to complete the run so far.

Gradings And Descriptions
Thought there might be some mileage in this: Strange or humourous descriptions on sales blurbs; Saw this on a Motown LP sale description on Ebay. Think he's had a bad experience? The Album Cover is rougher than 2 nights in a State of Georgia County jail!

Giuseppe Salamone.....does Anyone Have Any Info. On This Thief?
As someone who has also been "stung" through transactions on Soul Source, I have to say that in one case if I hadn't used the threat of exposure through the site I would probably have not got my 45 back (that was unpaid for). I don't see it as a reflection on the site but see public exposure, or the threat of it, a valid tool for people to ensure that the odd bad apple "plays the game". Once all avenues for resolution have played out unsuccessfully then naming and shaming can often be the final resort.

Moses Smith - Try My Love
Was released on a Dionn lookalike UK 45 a few years ago Albert. NO US Issue. Should be around for about 10-15UKP I would have thought.

Big Predicament.....what Do You Do When?
Send it back. It'll always get on your tits if another does come along. I've returned a couple over the last year. Both expensive items and both for a full refund. Bought other stuff - no regrets.

Valuation On Uk 45 Susan Singer Bobbies Lovin Touch ?
Yep, Marvelettes is THE version for me too. Supremes 1008 is certainly a hard item to find for sure, (I've never held one), DEFINITELY a striped 45 though (and a stock pink issue too!) I've never seen a MAP design 1008. Issue #3 of There's That Beat! features the entire Motown "pinks" and their variations. Unfortunately sold out now though. Motown! - It does yer 'ead in at times eh?

Valuation On Uk 45 Susan Singer Bobbies Lovin Touch ?
Never seen one in the flesh! Was substituted for The Contours - Whole Lot Of Woman and they transferred the Supremes track to Tamla 54038 and released it February 1961. Have you a scan? Have you the Deadwax details? It was reporo'd in the 80s if I remember correctly along with The Satintones and a few others. If it's pukka I would rate it at around 4 figures dependent on condition. A great find. Best, Dave
