Come On Own Up
I must be deaf then, cos it was records like this that stopped me going to a number of Venues back in the day. It was and always will be, to my ears at least, complete and utter shite! Only played I believe because it was cheap and available so anyone could get one. Sorry to be so forward, but I wouldn't be happy with someone walking down my street with this crap, never mind bringing it in mi house! ...... Rant over!... Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com PS. Bet Pete S likes it too!

Spinners - I'll Always Love You
Berry Gordy's MOTOWN.............unfathomable if you try to work out each and every individual issue and why it was issued as it was. I've researched 100s of "mispresses', single sided Demos, Map/Block/Blue/White/Demo/Stock issues of same songs, with same Matrix #s. It really does become a quagmire! I gave up eventually! Example 1: There are 11 official pink Striped Motown issues yet there are at least 30 variants, that I know of. Example 2: Motown 1011 - Mary Wells...issued as: Pink Striped Stocker White Striped Demo Blue Map Stocker White Map Demo Blue Map Demo White Block Demo I think it boils down to the fact that Motown were a booming company back in the day, Berry wasn't averse to using another plant/printers if he owed money to a previous one, they also reacted when a song "took off" be producing more copies to hit the outlets asp. In the early days it wasn't unusual for Berry to change the take on the record, AFTER it's release, if he later thought it could sell better. Then of course there are the "mistakes" that invariably crop up in an operation as big as Motown became. It certainly makes the chase of collecting more interesting 40 yeras later on though eh? Is This An Original
Hi Roger, Yep, Seen lots of multicolored over the year. (Nice Dean Parrish btw, don't see that one too often), But has anyone ever seen a W/Demo of ANYTHING on Laurie? Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Is This An Original
I think there IS a boot/counterfiet of this. The beak of the hawk is plain white instead of being black like the rest of the logo. Sure Pete Smith or someone could clarify this. Another one....whilst I'm here..... Has anyone seen a White Demo of the Laurie label. I've seen one recently and it certainly looks kosher. I have a W/Demo of Hoagy Lands somewhere that I'm pretty sure is a reissue, but I'm not sure of it's origins. Anyone clear that up for me? Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com

Me too. The intro to Uptight still, (30 years later), draws me to a dancefloor. My favourite Motown of all time. And I have a lot of it! For me it ranks as the modern day equivelent, (20th Century anyway), version of Beethoven, Schubert et al at their best). Powerful stuff! Jamerson - Bom,.... Bom Bom Bom Bom Bom Bom.......Bom Bom Bom Bom Bom Bom...Bom Bom Bom Bom Bom Bom.............simplicity itself.......but fantastic! -->QUOTE(mark.b @ May 15 2006, 11:05 PM) link some good photos there used to go here with siz, tonyjackson, john blackburn, ross & imelda, eugene, al birkhead and all the rest of the streford lads, if i remember rightly the bar shut at the usual 2.00pm and then they used to sell draught cider some poor excuse that it was legal to drink cider at 16 .think it was there but my mind is not what it used to be the bouncers used to do a bag search on the way in and confiscated all beer and drinks. great all dayers i can remember searling was on didnt ginger dj there as well his home turf really. first place that i heard bessie banks dont you worry baby a searling play. mark The Cats Whiskers was the Main Ballroom type affair but the real place was upstairs a few years earlier - The Rose Room. It was also reopened as a soul venue later when it was renamed Annabellas. Ginger and Eddie were the residents at the Rose Room whilst Ginger and his sidekick, a certain young Tim Brown were behind the decks at Annabellas. I think I'm right in that Jnr Walker & The Allstars appeared at The Cats Whiskers at one of Gingers all dayers. (79/?) Just accross the road from this venue was a pub with a "function room" called The Concorde. This was the venue that first saw Richard Sturgeon, , Soul Spam and Pat Gravy on the same DJ Line up. MIDWEEK!! (Wednesday), The Concorde Soul Club ran every Sun/Wed/Fri for about 3 years! Happy Daze! Strangely enough Ginger never DJ'd at the Concorde, think he was always at Cleethorpes and that end of the world around this time. It was around this time that Levine and Searling got hold of The Angels night club in Burnley and had afantastic success with "modern" soul nights. Have to confess I only went twice to those....sort of did mi earholes in a bit! Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com- Us Northern 45s For Sale

I think Rose Batiste was around l....o...n....g before Bari Track. Didn't Dave McAdden do a top 20 in around 75/76 and Bari Track was number one and still covered up? If I remember correctly (and there's no guarantee! of course), he had it down on the "fuknose" label!! Funny guy Dave! Sadly missed. Regards, Dave www.hitsvillesoulclub.com- Few Lp Bits For Saletrade

I always think "Aah, now I've got that I'm almost there". Then of course you go round you're mates and after a few beers, a few hours of spinnin' their 45s you realise you're just a sad pathetic excuse for a collector, have only a tenth of what a real collector would have, and solemnly swear to yourself that you'll endeavour to do better in future!"
