Soulsource Record Club Record Of The Day 2012
This afternoons offering: Used to get a few plays about 15 years ago but never really took off. I was luck enough to locate a 50 count box of demos at Sunshine Records which went out at a couple of quid each. This trio lost Mr Jones and morphed into Ferguson, Davis and Lee who had a couple of releases on GRT and Chess. I still pull it out every now and then (Ooh Err Missus!). Soulsource Record Club Record Of The Day 2012
This evening's offering: There's a reason why songs get covered by different artists in different styles and genres, It's cos they're fantastic songs that stand the test of time. This is one of them. Combine it with the superlative vocals of Mr Johnson and hey presto! Soul music of the ginormous kind. Great record. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/Urai00gfM_o

Soulsource Record Club Record Of The Day 2012
This afternoons offering: From a group of ladies who are I suppose, something of an acquired taste. I like most of their outings. This is a great Goffin/King song and it's been done by many soul artists but I particularly like this version. I'd imagine the girls were young teens when they recorded this. I have it on a nice Charmain WDJ. Regards, Dave

Soulsource Record Club Record Of The Day 2012
This morning's offering; Probably better known I would think by The Shades of Blue from their Happiness LP. Another testimony to the talents of Barney 'Duke' Browner. I think this must have been the first track he and Harry Balk cut when they moved to Motown after absorbing Impact into the Hitsville family of labels. not an out and out dancer like the SOB version but a great record nevertheless. One of Bev's top 10 so it must be a good! Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/nVun5AHHZNI

BobA's UK Scene Questions
Nope, that's totally correct Bob. Some folks (by far the majority), are happy to stay local, listen to their Mates records, (lots of them bootlegs, reissues, repeated week in week out), whilst others search out a different scene which usually involves traveling, staying up all night and listening to a more changeable playlist of original records from the DJs. Regards, Dave

Soulsource Record Club Record Of The Day 2012
This morning's offering: Great record that I can't remember ever being massive, in fact probably only heard it out a dozen times ever. Maybe an enterprising DJ should get this dusted off and put Moses Smith away for a while? Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/obkNFG2i03U

Rose Batiste, hit And Run Golden World 10" Acetate On E-Bay
Yep same here. Nice item though and an iconic Golden World slice of memorabilia for sure. Just a tad TOO pricey for me just to hang it on my record room wall. Regards, Dave

Etta James Has Died In Califonia
A few years ago myself and a gang of mates were lucky enough to walk the length of record row starting at Chess Recording Studio on 2120 S Michigan. Etta was one of the names that came to the forefront as we walked the route. Although her passing is sad, I'll do what I usually do at these times and remember the legacy of a lady who rose above her difficult start in life and decided that the world was gonna hear her voice, whether they liked it or not. As previously stated it's a strange coincidence that her original mentor Mr Otis passed in the same week but maybe that was karma eh? Not many people can lay claim toan iconic song that immediately connected the public with the artist but Ms James had 2! As Sam Cook has "A Change Is Gonna Come", Isaac Hayes has "Shaft" and Otis Redding has "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay", that will forever be tied to them and rightly so, Etta James leaves behind "At Last" and "I'd Rather Go Blind" which will be eternally linked to her. Not a bad legacy I think you'll agree. And so, after a career spanning over 50 years and providing years of enjoyment to an army of fans step forward Ms Jamesetta Hawkins, take a bow...for a job extremely well done. Common Records Which Do A Good Job Of Avoiding You
It's the same with the promo. Found a few but mainly trashed. Eventually did find a minter but had to resort to Ebay. I think it's the same with a lot of the more successful Motown 60s stuff. I suppose the promos were actually used for their purpose rather than filed in some radio station. Another one is Jr Walker - Road Runner. Have had a few but always beat up. Four Tops - Shale Me Wake Me... - Always got X on label. Does my heed in! Regards, Dave

This mornings offering: Landed this morni9ng from one of the Pinch Brothers. Great upbeat 70s. ALMOST disco but just pulls back from the precipice! Puts much of the giddy price tag stuff to shame. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/FD0Nsu0L_Cg

This afternoon's offering: Look past the daft graphics and you see a man who is my #1 wish to see live! A great catalogue of songs, a great musician and a top bloke to boot. Imagine him at Prestatyn with the full band! Alas it wasn't to be. Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/eu8IlNo3nok

Record Diggin And Shopping In Florida
There's an absolutely HUGE guy who lives on a trailer park in Kissimmee just near the crossroads of US192 and the OBT, that has a trailer full of good condition 45s. But you'll need to be able to stand the stench of year old food and converse with a guy who hasn't showered for about the same length of time. And don't even think about using his bathroom! (Arrgghhh!!). Oh...and he collects knives and has some r.e.a.l big fookers! You might wanna pull in at the pawn shop on 192 just up the road and buy a Glock before calling! I lasted 15 minutes before getting out of there after realising he was 'eyeing' me up for something. I did manage to get a box of Atlantic promos of the Embers "Where Did I Go Wrong" on the way out! Regards, Dave

Folks Enjoying Themselves On The Dancefloor
I'll put mi hand up then - I'm a div. I've always been a somewhat bland and crappy dancer, (I play a mean 'air' orchestra though!), no one's ever called me a div before because of it though. At least not to my face. Let's see... a happy div or a miserable 'mover and shaker'? Err...no contest! Regards, Dave

Folks Enjoying Themselves On The Dancefloor
Sis, There ain't no limits. Limit's is fer dead folk. Dance 'til yer drop dead. 'Cos when that happens, it's all over! Regards, Dave

Philadelphia International Classics - The Tom Moulton Remixes! Out 27/02/12
A few pics of a number of iconic musical locations in a fantastic city: My good pal Dave Fergie and I in the mixing booth at Philadelphia International Records on Broad St, Philadelphia. Dave and I outside Kenny Gamble's office at PIR. It's a great photo of Motown meets PIR! . Not many get that far into the place. I actually got into his office for a brief couple of minutes.

Soulsource Record Club Record Of The Day 2012
This morning's offering: Eugene Record and Carl Davis penned femme midtempo of real quality. Reminiscent of Mary Wells' breathy delivery, my favourite Jackie Ross outing. And cheap too! Just how we like 'em! Regards, Dave https://youtu.be/9myoZ3HdStA
