    CLASSIC!
  2. We were an inch away from sealing the deal. For some reason once the dust had settled on the meeting Deon decided it wasn't for him. It was one of the worst moments I've had on the soul scene when he backed out, I was convinced he was gonna blow everyone away. He is still a musician and is a tutor/mentor at a school just outside Chicago. He's a lovely bloke and I'm sure he'd have had people eating out of his hands in UK. Ah well, I'm sure he had his reasons. Regards, Dave
  3. Looking to fill a gap here. I'm looking for WHITE DEMOS of the following: Continental Four - The Way I Love You - Jay Walking Continental Four - What You Gave Up - Jay Walking Looking for Ex copies, no wol, sol or gubbins. Any help appreciated. Regards, Dave
  4. Dave, Yep, I also have a yellow promo lp. I rate the US issue as quite rare. 250 seems about right. The song is OK but it ain't no ICTIA. Regards, Dave
  5. Just watched it in the record room. I give it 9 out of 10. Dance off was brill, well acted AND well choreographed! And the ice cream van was a poignant touch. Haven't laughed so much since Life Of Brian! Although I don't remember that Battersby fella being around back in the day! Or that many Morris Minors being around either? Regards, Dave
  6. Autographed vintage promo photo of the great man:

2 fantastic programmes for sure. A real tour de force Rosetta Tharpe eh? The Chess docu was the best I've seen on the label and it's influence on taking black music from the wood sheds to the stages of the world. Great stuff. Regards, Dave
  8. Hi Pete, Can't really help as I've not seen one before so can't compare. B Side blemish doesn't look like usual H20 ink run/fade though eh? Like you say, maybe the remnants of wol? Really need to see another to confirm 100% eh? What's the vinyl condition like? Regards, Dave
  9. Yep, that would make sense. I'll shake the tree a little more and see if anything falls out. Thanks to all the folks for PMs but it's the WHITE DEMO I'm searching for. Regards, Dave
  10. Ian Gee has one. I've not seen it but was told he has one. Regards, Dave PS. If there's a faint blue tint on one of the sides Pete? ....mmmmm.
  11. The Solid Hit 45 I'd like but it's the wrong colour! I have a distant memory of seeing the MAH's 1037 DEMO but I'm not 100% sure but it's worth fishing to see if anything turns up. Regards, Dave
  12. Thanks, that probably just put the price up!! TRegards, Dave
  13. Hi all, Looking for: Magic Tones : Together We Shall Overcome b/w It's Better To Love - 1037 WHITE DEMO Cash waiting. Regards, Dave
  14. Bobby Robinson was certainly an iconic black entrepreneur. When his shop closed a few years ago we did a special on his contribution to black culture. At 90 he was still 'at it'. An innovator, an institution to many and I think, if I remember rightly he was the first (and last), fully black owned business on his street. His kind are sorely missed once they depart but his legacy of music from the early days of post war blues to the hip hop culture of the newer generation will last for years to come. So....sleep well Mr Robinson, it's been quite a haul and Congratulations Sir, on a job extrenely well done. Regards, Dave
  15. Too right Ged. Ask any one of a hundred Golden World collectors that's still awaiting Dickie and The Ebbtides! :lol Regards, Dave
  16. Russ, Piss taking aside, if you're gonna start collecting labels why not start with something less daunting, (and financially crippling), than Okeh? You really want to spend 500 quid on a Sandi Sheldon Demo etc? I'd choose a smaller, more interesting label like SoulVille/Jaywalking for instance. Won't break the bank, a diverse A & R roster, but will take a while to complete. Carnival is another that I enjoyed collecting. I wouldn't even contemplate starting on Okeh nowadays. Maybe once the arse has completely dropped out the oldies scene maybe. Regards, Dave
  17. And so at last you join the fold. Get ready to start buying BAD records!! Regards, Dave
  18. Paul, If you like the song, check out Linda Jones and The Whatnauts' version on Stang. George Kerr/Pointdexter Brothers magic. Regards, Dave
  19. Isn't that a slightly different take to the stock issue or WDJ on Atco though Ady? Regards, Dave
  20. Freddie Hughes - My Baby Came Back - Wee Just Bros - Sliced Tomatoes - Lupine Servicemen - Are You Angry - Wind Hit Bobby Joy - You Sweet Devil You - Sentry Chuck Jackson - What's With This Loneliness - 6Ts Anniv 45 Regards, Dave
  21. My favourite JB ditty at the minute. Regards, Dave
  22. Yep, good read, enjoyed it. I still have my W/D of 25 years. Great record. Regards, Dave
