  1. Here's the one sided demo. Pretty sure the label for the Sad Sam sided demo is same.
  2. Shhhhhh! Don't spoil my fun. Bev (Wifey) still thinks it called - "You Ain't Got No TV!"
  3. Simon, Don't worry about it Mate. We can't all be the same can we? Oh....And I try not to 'Purport" in public as the wife gets on to me about mi manners. I'll be at the Burnley Allnighter end of the month so I'll buy you a beer and we can purport together if you're around them parts.
  4. The story of Dynovoice can be found in Issue #5 of There's That Beat! Still a few copies left of this issue at www.theresthatbeat.com
  5. I played that one at Hamburg in April. Another great record on the label out of Jackie Lee's hometown of Lake Charles, Louisiana.
  6. Hi Simon, Don't wish to get involved in any semantics or fall outs but maybe it's me that doesn't get it then. It's phrases like "I live and breath NS" that I struggle to get to grips with in this instance. All die respect but I think what you mean is "I live and breathe the Northern Soul scene". In my world there's a subtle but nonetheless categorical difference. When I commented that some people don't get it, I wasn't referring to NS, the music, or anything other than the fact that this DVD set is treasure trove of performances that have been captured for posterity. Not just for us current fans to enjoy, but for future generations of fans to celebrate also. That's the whole point. There is no film of many of these artists available anywhere apart from this set. The fact that the artists have had to re-record the songs is simply a matter of economics as has been explained on countless ocaisions. The whole of the UK rare Northern Soul set up is based on these artists, the very artists that created what you claim to 'live and breathe'! If you can't appreciate that that's fair enough, and it's up to you. Therefore, you don't get it. But many of us do. It reminds me of a banal comment when Brenda Holloway appeared in UK back in the 90s. "It's not the same without a band". He didn't 'get it' either. Yep, I agree it's not the same. But to have Brenda Holloway standing on stage in your home town (Burnley), singing songs that you'd loved for 25 years and more, only a few feet away and then have her spend time with us after, was worth every penny of any admission fee. I guess some people are just too happy to see their soulful glass half empty, whereas me, I prefer to view it as half full. I'll be getting the DVD set delivered shortly, I'll be pulling a few bottles of wine out the cooler, pushing the furniture back and celebrating the artists performances for what they are, not what I wished they'd been. As Ian will testify, I'm no fan of much of his production work and have been on the end of some vociferous comments from him, but this set is tour de force of Northern Soul performances and I struggle to see how fans can't see it for what it is. Back to lurking......
  7. I've no reason to believe there are bootlegs flying around or that there's been a find of them but I've been offered one from two separate sources, both in the US, there's another on Ebay. All three are Mint-. There's also at least one for sale currently in UK too. Or am I just an old cynic. Can't remember seeing four copies all up for grabs on the same day is all. Just trying prevent getting burned is all chaps.
  8. Anyone been offered Flash McKinley? Anyone know if they've turned up? Any info appreciated.
  9. I too have avoided posting on this thread but to see the words "Gwen Owens" and "Abomination" in the same phrase has floored me! Some people just don't get it. Never will.
  10. Yep, I know what you mean Been pushed a few times but never really had it's day... but it will. Quality will eventually out. Been a couple sold recently so hopefully folks will start playing it again.
  11. I've had a couple of the Goldspot 45s and all have been the real thing. I've never seen or heard of a Goldspot boot. Anyone got a scan? Any difference on the labels etc? Anyone actually seen/handled one for definite?
  12. I played this at this years Hitsville Weekender. Steady stream of folks coming to see what it was. Great forgotten record that should be reactivated. QUALITY.
  13. Goldspot is the local Ohio label owned by Kenny Smith. It was the only release on the label. Kenny went on to become General Manager at GAR.
  14. I've never seen a Goldspot Demo either.
  15. Jerry Butler is still 'The Iceman", and still opens with "Moody Woman". Dave Fergie and I saw him in Tampa last year. The young lady who duets with him on the Brenda Lee Eager stuff was fantastic. Here's a few pics of the man. On stage and backstage. He was a real gent. He is very interested in the Chicago political scene and is a City Councillor. The other black guy in the pics is none other than Mr Eugene Dickson. A great weekend.

Sir, It's obvious you have impeccable taste! Enjoy.
  17. That was the instrumental Steve. Is the vocal to LARS on the Satiron 45 (The Gallop)? I never knew that.

Hi Mick, Sounds like you would benefit from buying a few issues of this mag Mate (blatant plug). The labels of Berry Gordy and the arists/people involved feature heavily: THERES THAT BEAT!
  19. Tried to punt a Philly Showcase last year. Who would like to see: Frankie Beverly (Doing his Northern outings) Yvonne Baker (Doing the same) Bunny Sigler Lee Andrews Unfortunately Ms Baker wasn't up for it, (she has personal problems), neither was Lee Andrews. (He runs a craft shop now). FB would cost an arm and a leg...but could be persuaded and Bunny is only a phone call away. That would be a dream line up for me.
  20. I think Mill Evans has been approached already. From what I gather he's not too keen but hasn't ruled it out completely.
