  1. I do know that it is easy to get carried away in an auction situation, it's the same for me even though i am only involved in the low end prices . If you are bidding in an auction there is an element of competition, and ego takes over, i have been in the situation where i have gone over my self imposed ceiling price because i don't want someone else to get it for a few quid more that i thought i wanted to pay, and as it creeps up you think, well i'll only put couple of £ more, then oh it's only a couple of £ more again, and before you know it you are way over the odds. There is also the scenario where the auction has started a couple of weeks ago, you get into a bidding war and end up over the "current value" because at the time you rightly believe that this is your one chance to pick up said item, then a dealer looks on and sees the high price and offers another copy for sale at the lower current value, you can't exactly withdraw your bid otherwise you get a reutation as an untrustworthy buyer! Oh it's soo compilcated
  2. Not sure if i'm missing something here, but how does Peanut Duck translate to sex and a nacked woman on the front cover? Review penned by Freud? Great dancer, one of my all time faves, used to have people rushing to the dance floor at stafford back in the day. Is it a legit issue does anyone know?
  3. I buy records from Friends, and being a collector i don't have the problem from your angle. My view is that if he got the bargain because he put in the effort to track it down and get it then he should make a healthy profit, especially if it's a key part of his income and going to fund his next purchases. As a friend i would expect some movement from "book price" or "going rate" and if it's a price i don't want to pay then i won't buy it, i'll buy something else instead at a price i am happy with. No point falling out over it. At a slight tangent i discussed "what happens if i want to sell up" and did it through a friend, we both agreed that a sensible approach would be for me to hand them over to him to process and sell on at the best price he could get using what ever method he saw fit to shift them, be it auction of the rare stuff and bundling up the cheaper more comon stuff. With and up front agreed percentage fee for him, say 10-15% of what he sells them for (obviously negotiable at the time of the agreement). I think it's a fair way of doing it aqnd i wouldn't have the heartbreak and ball ache of advertising them and parting with them and packaging them myself. And no I'm not selling up for a loong time, its more an arrengement for when the wife and kids pry them from my cold dead fingers!!!

Does the IHFIY issue command more then? No not really, I got a copy from Manships drop down auction with the centre pushed out as in the picture, don't think it was much more than £10.
  5. Can't believe i didn't propose thsi oen earlier, Nothing gets my hairs up (not that there are many left now) nor tingle my spine more than Timmi Yuro It'll Never Be Over For Me. Also how about The Angels More than Ever Now on River City Records.

I too picked up a vg+ copy of this off the bay for a few dollars, it was listed for the top side If I Only Knew, which was vg+ the Maybe So Maybe No side is a bit rougher and is quite noisey, it's on my list to get a minter if i can too.
  7. Couple from my collection: Gia Mateo - If You can't Say anything Nice Roddie Joy - Come Back Baby Roddie Joy - If There's anything you want Sandy Hollis - The Tables Will Turn

Mine have been dropped into the mailbox this very morning. I had to put everyones CD to one side while i racked my brains what to put on it, in the end i went for a desert island discs approach. I thought if i were marooned and had just one CD to remind me of all the stuff in my collection what would i have on it. So it starts with some oldies then slips into a bit of crossover then moves into the later 70's early 80's and as i restrictied myself to 7"s thats as late as it gets. I agree with Chris, another album only swap later in the years sounds ggrrreeeaaat! Have listened to 4 or 5 so far and once again have been struck by the range of soul music and everyones taste in it. Only hope mines lives up to the quality my ears are drowning in at the moment (desert island again )

Phew! now i can sit back relax and listen to everyone elses

Don't suppose anyone has kept a spreadsheet or database of the tracks we have had included to help avoid repeating loads? I thought about it but it looked too hard.

I've never sold anything, traded some stuff and instantly regretted it and have vowed never to let anything go again.....ever.......until my family prise them from my cold dead hands. So in scope for this one......everything in my collection Can i have extended time to work it out please Only kidding, have decided 50% of the content already.
  12. And another one on a similar topic.... Last saturday morning i was doing the obligatory wandering round shops with the wife adn in new look or some other such shop what did i hear....... Next Time Gonna Do It my way by DJ Shadow, this was something i picked up immediately after Adey Pountain put it on his offering for the CD Swap (shameless plug for the CD Swaps) ooohh I was cheered up ...at least while i was in that shop
  13. SKY SPORTS 2 just finished watching the Mancs escapology act in Barcelona, then they play the trailer for Mays upcoming Footy finals with a backing track of "Number 1 In Your Heart"!!!!! Mind in a blur, who was that by?
  14. Hhmmmmm........ I'll deffo be watching out for the new thread, for the sum total of around £15 outlay you get ssooooo much QUALITY to a) listen to, drool over c) pursue relentlessly or d) all of the above Is it me or is the majority of the music crossover and modernish? Not that i'm complaining as i love all of it. How about a 70's only swap, whcih would obviously encompass crossover, 60's sound-a-likes, soulful dancers, deep funk etc?
  15. I've got one, and the whole married to the sister thing in the lyrics FREAKS ME OUT. Won't sell it though
  16. I have one with the arrow across the middle, but I'm sure that's a boot too, i checked in JM's boot guide a while ago.
  17. Looks like my christmas wish list is getting longer and longer. My effort is in the post as of 11am this morning, i caught the postie emptying the post box and put them right in his sack!!!!! Some fantastic things so far, and i've only managed to really listen to about half of the ones i've recieved so far. Best thing i've heard in ages is the Carolyn Porter track on Monica. Any back ground on when and where palyed and how much? Cheers,

One of my faves is Fantastic Shakers - The Biggest Mistake. In sure there was a Soul Supply LP called fingersnappers, or something similar, i have it buried in a box upstairs somewhere, will have to try and dig it out later in the week.

There was a period in the mid stafford era when a lot of Latin flavours came into vogue. Some of the tunes listed in that thread seemed to filter around the 100 club Stafford and the rest of the big nighters of that era. Dave Flynn had a load of these at the time, I still have things like Spanish Maiden Tony Middleton, You can't run away from me The Wanderers etc etc.
  21. Just grabbed a copy of Much Better Off than I've Ever Been (which i discovered via the last CD swap and played on repeat in the car for hours on end). Went on Gemm and got a copy v happy. When on Gemm there was a LOT of Ruby & Romantics product so i would like to know if there is an LP that has a load of their better tracks on it? Obviously want an orignal vinyl copy not a repress or best of CD
  22. Woo Hoo I'm in again. Been thinking about what to put together and some of the drawbacks i have come across are: Some of the recent purchase have been as a result of previous swaps, so can't put them on. "what you have been listening to" could be a self fulfilling category, as you play things to inspire you to do the compilation those things are then the most recently played!!! Has any bright young spark put together a spreadsheet or list of everybody's Cd track listing to help avoid loads of repeats? I think mine will be a mixture of recent purchases and interesting B sides which i trawled through when i put together a CD for myself recently.

Bobby Thurston - Sweetest Piece of the Pie, includes Just Ask Me On a Northern Modern but very old type of tip!!!
  24. Well well well, Dazz and Jo!! My memories of the 80's are limited, and it's down to people like you being a bad influence on me. I can only remember very in consequential snippits of things.... like the time that Dazz and Jo drove all the way to my flat in Warrington after an allnighter somewhere in the country on a sunday morning because it had one of the only two Ikea stores in the country at that time Mark George is me and my memory may be completly shot coz i don't remember half the places i was supposed to have been so they must have been good, think i remember Bernie as well unless that's a different Bernie but i don't think so
  25. Count me in, i too seem to be a few CD's short of a full swap
