  1. I really like the version of this by The Sapphires on US Swan.
  2. Thanks for your comments, I'm glad you like the mix. Just wanted to clarify that I'm not from the Oslo Soul crew (they are great guys though, and I really like their mixes as well ). I run the Club Function nights in Malmoe, Sweden together with fellow SoulSourcer Helena plus my friends Jonte and Joppe. Check this out for more info: https://www.myspace.com/clubfunction [in english!] https://www.clubfunction.com [in swedish!]
  3. You do know that it's not the same Parliaments group as on Revilot (etc.), right?
  4. I'm glad you're enjoying it, Val!
  5. Yes, I think you're right! There are very, very few long 12" versions that I prefer over concise 7" versions.
  6. Every now and then I put together an MP3-mix of sounds I like a lot at the moment and play at Club Function, a club night which I organize once per month together with my friends Helena, Jonte and Joppe in my hometown of Malmo, Sweden. Below you will find my sixth and latest mix. You can download the NEW mix on the following link: https://www.shingaling.com/SebastiansFunctionMix20080915.mp3 SEBASTIAN'S FUNCTION MIX - SEPTEMBER 2008 Betty Wright - Mr. Lucky - SOLID SOUL Soul Chargers feat. Charay 89 was released at least 3 times, maybe even 4 (or more!). I've seen these three for sale on eBay and on sales lists: CHARAY 89 - Men From Macon - Soul Of A Man / East Of Eden CHARAY 89 - Men From Macon - Soul Of A Man / Fire Lighter CHARAY 89 - Men From Macon - Soul Of A Man (vocal) / Soul Of A Man (instrumental) I have only seen the following variation in a label listing and not "in the flesh", so don't know if it exists: CHARAY 89 - Men From Macon - Soul Of A Man / Salvation Such a mess of a discography! But it is possible to date (to some extent at least) the time of release for the different variations, as for example the "Fire Lighter" issue has got the 3032 Santa Fe Trail address and the later "Soul Of A Man" vocal/instr issue has got the PO Box 11152 address. It seems like they changed to the PO Box address during 1969 (for all Major Bill Smith label - Charay, Soft, LeCam etc.).
  8. OK... Wasn't criticizing, was just sad that I couldn't watch it. Can any of you UK viewers grab the URL to the actual video (flv?) file?

  10. I tried to watch the stream of this programme here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dlp2k/ But apparently can only be seen by people based in the UK.

  12. A great tune in my opinion and one of Eldridge's rarest 45s.
  13. Jason's site is superb! And on that same "regional discographies" tip, these sites are also great: https://www.dcsoulrecordings.com/ https://www.midwest45s.org/ https://newyorksoulrecordings.com/ https://www.texassoulrecordings.com/

Yes, better be safe than sorry! By the way, has anyone heard the ballad flipside ("Loving You") on the "I Know I'm In Love With You" 45? I just heard it and the guy can't sing in tune to save his life! Hear it here: https://www.indiana45s.com/mp3/georgebyrda.mp3

I have no idea actually. Will amend my post above to "second issue" to keep myself out of trouble. The silver label issue should in any case not be of interest to someone chasing the original release.
  16. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in Record Wants
Released on the PAY-TONS label with catalogue number 1002. The original has got a gold label and the "second issue" has got a silver label. I personally prefer his "I'm Available" (issued as PAY-TONS 1001 and also picked up by TANGERINE).
  17. I think it might be the scanner as well. But can you please check what the matrix details are on your copy and post them up?
  18. Please, PM me as well, or tell directly on the forum. Does anyone on here have an orange copy? What are the matrix details? Here are the orange and yellow scans:
  19. Just adjust the tracking weight and anti-skating settings to fit your own stylus/cartridge when you replace it. Takes about 30 seconds per turntable if you know how to do it and have done it a couple of times earlier. Always bring a blank disc to be able to properly adjust the anti-skating. Otherwise I agree with you, it can make a lot of damage to your records if you just replace the stylus and keep going with the previous setting.
  20. Are there any differences in the matrix details? Or pressed from the original stamper? Does anyone have photos of the matrix details and scans of the labels on BOTH the original and the repress? Would be great to compare them side by side.
  21. I know, I wasn't having a go at what you said. Was just saying that a carver shouldn't be considered an original just because you own the original 45.
  22. What format anyone on here prefers is not what's up for discussion. It's about whether you should play original vinyl only or not. I fail to see how a carver of a record you've got at home remains an original in a way that some tracks on a CD (recorded from the original 45s that you've got at home) does not?
  23. Why not put the entire playbox on a couple of CDs and play the tunes from those instead? The exact same thing in my opinion, just a different format.
  24. I guess you're right. I usually DJ at venues with top quality sound systems and the drop in sound quality when a carver is played is noticeable.
  25. Frequency range is the amount of "bass", "mid" and "high" frequencies on the recording. Carvers are generally very heavy on the "mid" frequencies, which results in a tinny sound. When DJing with a carver you have to crank up the "bass" and "hi" a lot on the mixer which usually results in feedback and poor sound reproduction. If that's not important to you - for home listening or DJing - then you will not have a problem with carvers I guess. But that kind of stuff is important to a lot of people and to say that carvers sound better than the original source just because you don't care to actually compare them (or think that it's important to do such a thing) makes for slightly misleading information in my opinion.
