  1. This is absolutely superb!

That Louie Ramirez 45 is nice.
  3. Had listened quite a lot to "classic soul" and bought some random Stax/Atlantic/Motown 45s and LPs and taken over a bunch of LPs from my parents... but the very first real "northern" 45 that I actively searched out and bought via mail order from the US was The Parliaments "Don't Be Sore At Me" on REVILOT, the second one was Larry Houston "Let's Spend Some Time Together" on HFMP, then when I discovered some more UK and US lists it quickly went "downhill" and within a couple of months I had bought stuff like Accents "New Girl" on M-PAC, Eddie Giles "Losin' Boy" on MURCO, Frank Dell "Baby You've Got It" on VALISE, The Expressions "You Better Know It" on FEDERAL, Phil Flowers "Where Did I Go Wrong" on DOT, Andre Williams "You Got It And I Want It" on RIC-TIC. Plus loads and loads of cheap 45s directly from the US, I bought all sorts of stuff "blind" because the records were so cheap.
  4. Released as Arctic 154 with "Happy Girl" on the flipside. One of the last 5 or so Arctic 45s to get released. Is a bit hard to find and has sold for quite a lot in recent years. Good tune!
  5. Reaching For The World - harold melvin & the bluenotes - abc 14451 refosoul
  6. That Harold Melvin is superb!
  7. The Picture - gwenn douglass - plus a bit of the flipside 14450 refosoul Are there really WORSE records than this being played on the scene in the UK? Above is a soundclip which features about 80 seconds of each side of the 45.
  8. I happened to find a stack of this 45 and have sold 7 copies on eBay but I'm all out of them now. I still have the original Bell Sound acetate (which is up for grabs if anyone needs it, it's in bad condition though). Here are the seven auction results: 2004-12-06: $181 (EX) 2005-02-10: $210 (VG+) 2005-04-20: $715 (VG-) 2005-06-01: $305 (EX) 2005-07-27: $96 (VG) 2005-11-08: $31 (VG-) 2006-06-06: $51 (G+) Got a bunch of other 45s on Michelle in that same "find" but I seem to remember that they all were crap or at least in such a bad condition that I didn't really listen to them. I'll try to find them here somewhere.
  9. About 6-7 hours left on these auctions now. Thanks for looking!
  10. They look absolutely awful with that font for the artist/title as well...
  11. Very weird indeed, and that's from the copy I have up for grabs on eBay at the moment: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=230087118308
  12. A copy of Jewel Bass sold on eBay about a week ago for $23, so hasn't moved much in value over the past couple of years, £10-£15 should still get you one.

Touch You Again - loveman ronnie stokes - philly city 12" 14447 refosoul
  14. Would be great if a couple of hundred copies turned up of this one.
  15. Now... that's two threads mentioning LeCam in less than 3 hours... gotta be time for a Charay/LeCam/Soft thread... very confusing labels... The one below is a "fave" oddity of mine, by the Major himself!
  16. "Easily Persuaded" is a nice tune. Pity it's LP-only.
  17. Those "Complete Motown Singles" CD box-sets which includes the a-sides and b-sides of ALL singles on the related labels plus differing local/national mixes and which will run up to 1972 or 1973 are quite OK with me as far as Motown releasing stuff. Sure, there's unissued stuff in the vaults, but it would be nice to just have everything that WAS released available in some format. This goes a long way in my opinion. By the way, these boxes can now be ordered from https://www.amazon.co.uk at absolute bargain prices, all of them are worth picking up: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_st/202-54...p;x=14&y=13
  18. There's lots of great stuff on those labels! There are some 125+ releases on Charay alone! The Pic & Bill 45s (15 or so of them) are all good soul and worth to track down, there are some nice Cresa Watson releases, there are some fine Willie Hobbs 45s on Soft. Plenty of good garage rock releases as well. Le Cam is probably most famous for being the original label for two gigantic pop hits, Bruce Channel's "Hey! Baby" and J. Frank Wilson's lovely "Last Kiss". Major Bill recorded and released anything he could make money off it seems, and the discographies for these labels are completely messed up, Major often re-used the same catalogue number to issue "new" 45s by the same artist but with a different flipside. There are for example 6 different Pic & Bill 45s released as Charay 60!!! The Major Bill Smith related labels probably warrants a thread of their own. But in the meantime, here's an incomplete Charay discography: https://www.capitolsoulclub.homestead.com/Charaylisting.html
  19. Great stuff, Simon! I can clearly imagine Ian trying to convince Geno that he really DID record that tune... Kind of miss Ian at times, lots of energy!
  20. Yellow Sunshine - yellow sunshine - gamble 14402 refosoul
  21. Found a copy of Yellow Sunshine's "Yellow Sunshine" on GAMBLE today here in my hometown. Had forgotten how much i like that track. A slightly strange rock/funk hybrid and I'm sure not everyones cup of tea... But some fantastic bongo breaks in there!
  22. It's an absolute dynamite tune to play really loud at a club, I did it this past friday and 400 people went nuts! I'm a sucker for that "gospel funk" sound (and soulful, gritty gospel in general) and always keep my eyes and ears open for this stuff, listening to gospel internet radio shows etc. As to where I found the Swan Silvertones 45... think I bought it from Craig Moerer for $10 or $12, listed for the "other" side.
  23. Don't Take You Love From Me - perfections - drumhead 14400 refosoul The other side of that Perfections 45 on Drumhead is great.
