No need for matrix info etc to confirm that the record that's being sold on the ebay link is 100% the styrene bootleg housed in a GSF sleeve. The styrene bootleg label has got distinct differences compared to the original vinyl and bootleg vinyl.

Whichever pressing plant it was that pressed the red/white labelled release didn't add anything to the run-out grooves. But when ARP pressed the red/black release, they used copies of the Bell Sound plated stamper and added their "ARP" stamp to the run-out grooves.

It is from 1970 or very early 1971. Was reviewed in Billboard Magazine in the January 9, 1971 issue. Most likely just a case of a different pressing plants done at the time of initial release. Slightly different typesetting on the red/black vs. white/red labels.

12266 is the mastering number and can be found in the run-out grooves on the so called "470" release as well.

Don't know if it adds anything, but in the 25 Feb 1967 issue of Record World it is mentioned that Pete Garris (of Garrison Records and Wand/Scepter) has "made a deal [...] for the Chicago smash, ''Please Stay''".

Seems to be a combination of two of the sides from his Star-Vue releases.

There was a thread on Facebook in the Rare Soul Talk group about this last year, assumed title is "They Say" or "Run Run Run", but no one came up with any definitive answer. Must be Carl Hall singing. Longer soundclip here:

There are differences to the labels as well just like on the two different corresponding promo releases. The one pressed at Rockaway hasn't got "Arr. by Jerry Vance" underneath the "Produced by Perception Prod." credit on the right side.

"Stop Girl" was copyrighted in May 1967 so it's a possibility that the 7" was released in mid/late 1967. But I have no reason to doubt Mike Markesich's research about it being a January 1968 release, he usually doesn't publish anything that he doesn't have firm sources for.

"A Thousand Tears Too Late" is rarer, but not by much I guess. It may look like several different copies have sold on ebay, but the ones that sold in 2010 for $226, the one in 2017 for $1136 and the one in 2022 for $1375 were all the same copy changing hands. The reason "Color One Tear Black" goes for more is because it's better and more in-demand.
