  1. I kind of want a lookalike FW just because I know that I'll never actually find a real one
  2. The Vontelles - Trying To Get You Back/Sit Down & Cry on the Stage label. uptempo northern group from Philadelphia on a pale blue label. so mythically rare I've pretty much given up hope have it on a old cassette & have only heard of one other copy in the 10 years I've known of it.
  3. Jackie Wilson - Sweetest Feeling gets claps here in NZ
  4. For me it's the Holmes label, the Kris label & then any records I find by my uncles Marvin, Nate, Carl, Eldridge & Richard "Groove" Holmes. I come from a musical family.
  5. I don't own either so can't comment on the double up but this way he's doubly sure & the bootleg guide is bound to be more portable than the full price guide
  6. oh hell yeah, the first Otis 45 I ever owned,
  7. I need a clean copy of this if anyone has one? thanks
  8. sad news RIP I love this track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTvHdhdnLh0
  9. OK, to give you a leg up. if you're a newbie to this & plan on starting collecting then you should buy these. get familiar with the info here cross reference prices people are asking with actual completed ebay auction results on these sites https://www.collectorsfrenzy.com/ (updated daily, covers records $15 & up & is free to use) https://www.popsike.com/ (has been running longer but is updated infrequently, covers records $25 & up & costs to use after a certain amount of searches) Condition is important. If you don't want to be disappointed with what you receive do not buy records from UK or Euro dealers which are graded Ex or lower & do not buy records from US dealers graded VG+ or lower. Sure you can be pleasantly surprised every now & then blind buying VG+ or Ex records but for the most part it's becoming rare. A lot of us know our stuff because we have looked at millions of 45s over decades of digging. There really is no substitute for gaining knowledge about this stuff by being out actively being in contact with records in quantity. Watch out for people on here selling stuff as originals, my girlfriend got taken by a very convincing, "experienced" dealer who went out of his way with long stories etc & convinced her the records she was getting were originals at original prices only to receive a number of bootlegs from the 70s/80s/90s/00s. As a beginner use the above tools at your disposal & get into it.
  10. these are legit reissues but should not be considered under the original vinyl classification.
  11. I had one of their 45s but couldn't get past the similarity of the singer's voice to Corey Glover of the band Living Colour. I'd play the 45 & have flashbacks to the 80s & the songs "Cult Of personality", "Glamour Boys" etc. Couldn't handle it
  12. i also collect gospel & some of those 45s which turn up are the truth is there is just so much out there that we'll never have a complete grip on everything.
  13. Kris Holmes replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
It's pretty crazy being down here in New Zealand, speaking to expat UK people & it seems like such a high percentage of them have some sort of "soul" past. It must have been a pretty big initial "flash" in youth culture in the mid-60s/early-70s which pulled a lot of people in for a moment.
  14. I love Otis Clay, so many great tunes. dig this
  15. some of the episodes are definitely better than others but I have filed the box set, it has some great footage.
  16. mainly R&B this week Part 1 https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/18339103 Part 2 https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/18340083
  17. Robert Parker & the "Barefootin" variations. Jamo Thomas & the "I Spy" variations.
  18. I've been reading some old UK Jazz Music mags from the 40s & 50s which have some pretty outlandish claims in them which the clarity of time has debunked. Just made me chuckle to then pick up Manifesto & see that statement
  19. Keith Rylatt in August's Manifesto on Johnny Copeland's "I'm Going To Make My Home...": "Penned & produced by Huey P Meaux, aka Huey 'Piano' Smith..." lol vs
  20. I'm all about giving away extras to good homes.
  21. You have 45 days to open a case, I usually give the item a month to arrive (internationally) then contact the seller & then if there is no response or no refund forthcoming I will open a case within a couple of days of that. As a buyer I always get my money back. As a seller I always refund in full if an item doesn't arrive.
  22. they tried launching these a few years back but the price & temperamentality of it all never caught on. Hopefully these guys have sorted a way to make them cheaper & better........
