New Dance?
Great feet!! You are right about the young kids though, they just need direction, and in this case musically educating. Maybe there should be a 'free Northern soul night' so they can see what its all about, but I think the DJs would have to playe the 100mph stompers like the Triumphs and Flaming Emeralds to get them dancing. Cant see em taking to the more popular slower stuff played today. Ed

New Dance?
According to my 20 year old daughter, this style of dancing is common with the 'CHAV' scene. You know, they wear flash designer clothes, like to show off, and come from a working class background, have lots of 'attitude'. Wait a minute, that was our scene 30 odd years ago, cheeky getz. Now where did I put my Henry Lloyd baseball cap...............If you cant beat em, join em. Ed

This One Will Bend Your Head
Mizz Carter - Black? You learn something new every day. I'll swop that choice for Bev Ann - Mind on other things. Met her at the LA gig and she is as white as the driven snow for sure, but always loved that tune, although He's coming home is Baaad. Ed

This One Will Bend Your Head
I used to love 'Cant live this way', its not popular now, but come on it fitted the bill great in the mid 70s. Non soul I like - halos are for angels Non soul I dont like - 9 x out of 10 Ed

The Northern Soul Icon Of The Last 40 Years
Assuming the chosen one would have been around 40 years ago and still around now, and have been influencial during the whole time, it shortens the list down. There have been many icons who have had a good 10 year stretch, but the full 40? Having only been 'on the scene' for about 31 of the last 40 years, I suppose I cannot really have a vote, but some names seem to have done the whole bit like Minshull & Evison. I think if Edwin Starr was still with us he would have been a good contender. Ed

New Dance?
Good luck to the Jumpers, or Stompers. Just shows dance is a great way of having a good time and making new mates. Email all of them with a link to the Champion or some Mitch Rider to get them applying all that energy to something worthwhile. Ed

Youngsters On The Northern Scene A Good Thing?
There has been plenty of cases of 'classic' Northern Soul re-worked from one era to another, for example the Bobbettes - Happy go lucky me RCA/Mayhew. Sometimes its better, sometimes its not. For some of our senior members (not me btw) they may recall the outrageous 1960's re-working of 'Where have all the flowers gone' on Okeh.......................... Young kids are missing out big time on what the Northern Soul scene could offer, as there aint an alternative scene that can match it. The music is only part of it. Most of us came into this scene from 'easy listening' records like the Flasher/Interplay/Ghost in my house etc, so if it takes Fat boy slim to re-record ST etc, so what, nothings new in the big picture. Feed: Visting Detroit by Rob Moss Part 4
I have a 2.5 hour stop over next April at Detroit Airport. It gives me just over an hour (if all goes to plan) to jump in a taxi and get a quick guided tour and maybe a photo opportunity outside Tamla Motown (You know what I mean). Question is, is it do-able, and is it worth it. Ed

Don't Laugh, Soul In Krakow
Be a missionary and take your own music, preach the faith, even if its on MP3. Was in Gdansk a few times and they had a least one Irish bar. (Maybe a commitments CD behind the bar?) I think Poland is 'getting there' There must be some of the 600000 Polish workers over here that have got 'into soul' and took some home..... Ed

Betty Boo -say It Isn't So
Was played at Rotherham Assembly rooms 'nappy night' a good while before grapevine release, as I remember my mate DEAN ROACH raving about it from hearing it previously at Cleethorpes. I thought her identity had been released. Sure I read it somewhere a few years ago. THAT grapevine LP did have some nice stuff on it. Ed

Need Help-miles Grayson
1. Ask him if he is writing a book. 2. Ask him if he was surprised by the reaction he got in LA 2004. 3. Ask him if he played on ZZ Hill - Love is so good when your stealing it. Great soul. Ed

Ringtones
Some great tunes on then. It should'nt be too hard to spot a soulie when the phones going off. Better than a soul badge..............Should be good on New years day morning. Maybe everybody on this site can change to the same tune for that time. Suggestions please, Flame and King band? Must admit the best ringtone Ive had for reaction from the public is please operator T&T, as it really does make folks think theres a row Kicking off, great fun. Ed

Ringtones
Not sure if this topics been done before, but assuming its a while ago if it was, whats your current ringtone? Do the general public look at you gone out when it fires up? Just loaded John Lee Hookers Boom Boom Boom, after a few weeks with the Mylestones the Joker. Both great for getting attention Although as usual, the kids cringe. Ed

Need Help-miles Grayson
Ask him what was the inspiration behind 'Wash and Wear love' LV. Great tune, but mad lyrics. Ed

Film Northern Film Northern Film
Aidan, the only thing is there's about 10 books out there on the same subject, countless tv shows about it now available on DVD etc, and 'The strange world of Northern Soul' from Levine & Co. So the Film idea would get more interest because it has not been done before. Quadrophenia was about the scene 10 years earlier than your chosen timescale, and look how well that did. Good luck whatever you choose, and just remember you wont please everybody with your interpretation of events. Ed

The Bloody Snake
Like it or loathe, its here to stay 4ever. I can dance to it, I know the words, and Id rather have this anyday compared to 3rd finger left hand, Jimmy Mack, or 9 x outta 10. Anyway its in the top 500 so it must be good. Ed

Which One Would You Choose
This wish is a one off, so it would have to be a quality respected toon, where there is only one known copy, so I could look down on the rest of the record collecting fraternity with a smug confident smile and watch thier envy as I parade it around...... No, thats just not fair, so I will also go for an original Frank Wilson DILYIID, as its common as muck, but I dont want that shit warped copy with writing on it, Berry Gordy's copy will do. Cant you swop the Fairy for a Genie, you get 3 wishes from those chaps. Ed

Bobby Sanders Rip
Was Bobby at the LA 2004 Gig? If so he would surely known how much he gave to the UK Soul scene, and at least he got some adulation. Great records, another legend going to the next life. Ed

Solo Or Social? Northern Soul Best Shared Or Alone?
The Atmosphere is obviously better in a full venue where the music is quality and the dancefloor full etc, etc, but any soul is better than no soul, except; I have been told many time to shut the f%4£ up when singing along to my ipod and only I can hear the music. This is down to 2 main reasons, I cant sing, and I get the words wrong. In this case a solo experience is better like listening and singing to soul in the car on a long journey. Ed
