  1. I love it.... When a tune gets you so bad, you've just got to have it at any price, it demonstrates the power in the grooves! Wasn't 7 day lover the first hugely overpriced tune in the mid 70s? Ed
  2. How many copies have been pressed as a first edition etc? 5000? Ed
  3. Cheers........ Old Tom got his pension fund in one with this song and I'm amazed how many covers there are, and so diverse in backgrounds. Ed
  4. If a new 'audience' in the US get as much pleasure as we did in the UK in the seventies, when de da do broke, it will be fantastic. Maybe the tip of a new iceberg of discovering the hidden heritage! Ed
  5. Marvin Gaye? Tom Jones? Or Somebody else? Any ever played out? Ed
  6. Time will tell. The producer of the reissue is taking all the risk. They may have recouped more money if only 2 were pressed than the probable 1000 run.... I'm happy with the Motown Soul reissue that Frank signed before he passed on. Ed
  7. I used to get soul bowl lists, and many tracks were unheard of in the mainstream, so papa bear listed at a quid would have been a leap of faith unless you lived in Kings Lynn! No online listening then, mores the pity! Then again, when John cleared out a million discs via soul packs, you would have got it for ten pence! I accumulated at least 500 quality 70s tracks from soul packs that way, and discarded the other 1500 ' average track or label interest only ' at record fairs mainly for trades. It really was win win for the soul pack buyers. Ed
  8. Fairs fair, it's unlikely any record is going to be a new discovery that was made between 63 and 83 in which era most of the scenes tunes are drawn from. Best hope would be a tune that is good but did not quite take off everywhere back in the day, gets a second or third chance. And boy when they take off, so does the price! Salvation for example. Seems to me the guys who've chased the master tapes etc have been the most successful in bringing new material onto the scene. No original discs, limited runs, been very welcome in most cases, but can't go on forever. Ed
  9. The last 'soul night' I went to was a couple of weeks ago in Las Vegas The biggest dancefloor filler.... Next, a Ska record, followed closely by Wully Bully. All described as curve balls. Takes all sorts I guess, but the ' anything goes ' phenomenon is not for me I'm afraid. Luckily the bar downstairs was open all night Ed
  10. Where was this first played? I like it alot.. Ed
  11. So if this had a few test presses and a few demos already cut, would it have already passed the 'hit or miss' staff jury to get to that stage? ie, the nod to start production or not was from tapes, or after a very limited production of demo discs? It also only got stopped from producing more demos or even being issued because of Berry Gordy's direct intervention? Ed
  12. What a tragic story and one I did not know about. I hope the fundraising goes well. Ed
  13. Now that is what I called trivia! Great detective work. Ed
  14. And I always thought Frank wrote the tune! Norman Whitfield did according to the article. Hope it sells well in the USA! Ed
  15. I wonder if the imminent pressing will be 'as is ' like the test pressing? Does the colour purple have a significance? Ed
  16. Great story, and one I did not know fully, just the bit about being seriously ill and using music to recuperate etc. I've no beef with folks singing the songs we love either like me whilst dancing or professionally on stage. Not keen on recording though with the hope of getting in the charts, unless for charity of course, but if it's got to be done, make it different, and not just a copy. Be original! Maybe team up with dad Phil and do August and Deneen's we go together! Ed
  17. I'm guessing then that from this source of income, the majority of singers get sweet fa, and the song writers not much more! Its been so great that a few of the artists have been at least made aware that their work is cherished and in many cases put on a stage to get some belated recognition. Ed
  18. Ok, so for example, the snake, do I love you, moonlight music and you, come on train, have all featured in recent years. Would royalties only go to the copyright owners, or would some filter down to the artist? I'd seen a few old British pop stars on TV interviews indicating they get a monthly cheque from royalties of old songs being played on the radio, TV, film scores etc. Ed
  19. With the use of a many obscure Northern tracks being used everywhere from Farm Adverts to TV Programmes, who if anyone gets royalties? Can tracks be used with no traceable ownership? If so is there a default benefactor? Ed
  20. Somebody is enjoying the snow. Ed
  21. For the flip? Ed
