And B Signer wrote it... Confusing... I thought he sang with one brother in the 50s but not 'benny'. Also thought when 'turn to ' came out, it was a spello.. You live and you learn! Ed

If someone in the know could clear that up it would be great.. Ed

Great singer and one of the later discoveries got a lot of dance floors full again.. Ed

RIP JR Gonna be a big thing and Love love love are Northern Soul DNA. Ed
  5. I went to Rotters and Romeo and Juliets for completely different reasons than why I went to Wigan Casino and the like. Not sure disco was the right label for it.. Ed
  6. Glad to see vinyl being made available! Only heard Love Music vary rarely back in the day on the Yorkshire side of the pennines . Did not realise it was a Wigan Monster sound. Ed
  7. Tears..gift...heaven.. Bubbling already. Ed
  8. You would have thought it would be from Em to Billy.... Or was it Em's first release on this label? And Billy dropped him off a demo? Unique in any case. Are both artists still alive? Ed
  9. An old blue eyed fave.... Ed
  10. I also wonder what the 'break even' number was for singles sales? Production costs can't have been that high when it was based at Hitsville.. Did BG ever over rule the panel? Ed
  11. Is it not amazing that this panel back in the day, missed so many great records....at first anyway.. However, can it be assumed that any single that did get released on general sale did get approved? Ed
  12. Rita Dacosta - Don't bring me down. Ed
  13. Hi Mike That's my fault... Back to topic.. Ed
  14. A great example. In fact probably hard to improve on as a tailor made. How many copies did it sell? Did it chart anywhere? Did it get Sid anymore gigs, an lp deal, or TV appearances? Johnny Boy won't get rich and famous from the niche NS scene. If that's not what the end game is, fair enough. Take a leaf out of Berry Gordy 's book. Go mainstream to make the coin. Ed
  15. Well if Wigans chosen few and ovation had a reunion night, and Russ played his historically judged controversial northern soul sounds, I'm sure it would attract many folks. It would also be ridiculed by the other half of the scene who don't follow the same values and interpretation. Its a free world after all. Ed
  16. Poor old Johnny boy is never going to get accepted when the records are 'made for Northern Soul'. Nobody wants tailor made now, anymore than they did in the early 70's, and the buying crowd are not teenagers who jumped on a bandwagon anymore. He can make a living as a tribute act or side kick to Tommy Hunt, but that's about as far as he can go on this scene. The boy can sing, but he needs to go mainstream and appeal to the masses. Make his own sound, his own signature. Soul in the sun Tenerife song is totally tongue in cheek, a bit of a larf. He has more chance on the voice than BGT........... Ed

All round musical perfection and genius. Writers arrangers composers performers. Ed

You are probably right especially if on the application forms for the non Butlins event specifically preclude the classification of attendee type from going. If one or two slip, the net and get into the non Butlins event, they will obviously told not to come back. Elitism rules ok! And Russ and Ian just get richer and richer because of it. The days when promoters did it for love or principle or seeking respect are either long gone or never existed, unless it's at the local pub or for charity.. Ed

Unless it's pure coincidence.... Its one-upmanship and petty. Unlikely to change though since its always been this way. If it was only about money, they would surely work together, like a Cartel, but it's more about out doing each other I suspect. Lorraine Silver was great last night though! And I'm sure some super rare vinyl got spun ' down the road' Ed
  20. Smokey Robinson has got Green eyes....but let's not digress. Its a tongue in cheek expression and some great tracks been listed so far. Ed
  21. The clue was She has got blue eyes...read the whole comment:)
  22. Its rare for a white person to sing soul music like a black person... About as rare as a black person to have blue eyes. Here is a nice piece of blue eyed soul from a great lady (in duo with George Benson) The plot thickens..
  23. To get to a soul night/nighter? 100 club and about 250 miles is about the furthest I've travelled, but what about you? Ed
