  4. Tell me your stage name was not Jerry St.John lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  5. Well he was a slightly built chap back in 75/76 and I suspect Bobby Gee was his stage name but I could be wrong, might be the same guy lol???? I guess the point of this thread is the perception of what Northern Soul was/is to general night club DJ's of the day, pretty sure there will be people on here who worked the general commercial clubs alongside the real deal Northern venues way back. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  6. Just cracked my wife Jacqui up with an impression of the local Top Rank/Crumpets DJ in Reading circa 1975/76, his name was Bobby Gee groomed himself on Noel Edmonds with the tight cut beard etc. it went something like this in the typical Smashie and Nicey style of the day..."This one goes out for all the Northern Soul gang in the top left hand corner before they go off to dance the night away....here's Penny McClean - Lady Bump" lol he then went into his bit of Motown selections, can see them dancing now, mainly tourists at the time who spent five minutes on the scene but they used to hit the dance floor on mass when Bobby Gee did his bit, I bet every town had a Bobby Gee at that time and I bet there is a million and one stories out there. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  7. Best memorabilia in the soul world is these babies....the records. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  8. The only thing to do is to refund the buyer and stand the loss, I sent a guy a record a couple of years ago not via an Ebay sale but a private sale Manchester to Cambridge the record was sent sign for mail and insured for £32.00 the record was worth £40.00 so I lost about £10.00 with postage after the Post Office covered the claim, if selling through Ebay and something goes missing then the odds are very much in the favour of the buyer so the only thing you can do to avoid negative feedback etc. is to take the loss and refund, if nothing else you keep your good reputation as a seller. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

  10. Thought it was Gene, just to add proves anything with a beat can find favour on this scene. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  11. I take it this is the same Connie Stevens as in the American film actress? Soul diva or what lol
  12. I've come to the conclusion that despite our efforts here and comments that nothing will be done to stamp this out, although it's not right it's been going on hand in hand with the Northern scene since the year dot and is something that will never stop, all we can do is not subscribe to bootlegs in any shape or form, all the time there is demand for bootlegs then the supply will continue, perhaps the case to collect within your means and be content and happy doing it the original way be it little cheapies or the big ticket items, if the likes of Universal can't be bothered to investigate and seek litigation then what chance have we got? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  13. Love the condition statement 'Acceptable' what the fcuk does that mean? lol Regards - Mark bicknell.
  14. Sold a few tunes on and off recently but records like The Tempos I simply can't get rid of, stunning tune, had it for years and have played it when I was DJ'ing over the years, very hard to find on a stock copy but mindblowingly rare on a white demo. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  15. Argo authentic demo. Regards - Mark Bicknell.

  18. Got both Entertainers and Poets on demo's, Poets took me an age to locate but had the Entertainers for years. Mark.
  19. I think the Issue/Stock copies are harder to find than the white demo, seems to be indemand rather than a true rarity but time will tell. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
