  1. I auditioned in the late sixties....................but they told me to F##K OFF. Ricardo (Bloody hell that Exmoor Beasts strong)
  2. I saw four "youths" drinking on the dancefloor @ Grumpy Soul last Saturday night. They lasted about 4 seconds befor Jumpin Joan asked them in no uncertain terms but in a polite manner to stand elsewhere. It is after all a dancefloor............well done Joan.!! Ricardo.
  3. I first heard Tony D.J. @ The blackpool Mecca in 1971 & was blown away by his playlist. Like it has been said in previous posts he had an an "alternative style of dress" to the majority of the Mecca crowd, however his skills and choice of records was light years ahead of some. I do hope he hangs on in there. Best regards, Ricardo.
  4. As somebody who made just 3 visits the "Wheel" in the late sixties & early seventies & last visited on 31 st january 1971 I would like to say that the place had a profound affect on me & my love for Soul music. My parents banned me from going, after seeing an article in the Rhyl Journal about somebody from Rhyl who was up in court, after stealing a motor vehicle after leaving the Wheel to get to the Top Twenty Club in Oldham on Sunday morning. He was described Quote " stewed to the eyeballs" after viiting a "Notorious manchester Night club." I still have the newspaper cutting and I know the person in question, who has since calmed down & is now a model citizen and an ardent Soul music fanatic. The Wheel to me was a catalyst that sparked mine and so many others musical futures, and it will be a complete travesty of justice, if it is lost, demolished, or even located. Personally I have never been back, because I cherish the memories of my short lived association with that Legendary place, the People, the style of clothes, the dancers, the records, in short everything that has made the Wheel a legend. Long live The Manchester Whitworth Street Twisted Wheel. Regards Ricardo.
