(1) Well the bootleg clearly did its job then, didn't it? Its makers and apologists must be proud of such an achievement - it was designed to deceive and that's just what it did. What an offensive and unnecessary remark against a decent person? What has Sean done to you to hold him in such contempt? (2) What business is it of yours what anybody does with their property when they acquire it? Another unnecessary and contemptuous comment. Such comments do little to enhance your own reputation Pete. Why the need to try to denigrate Sean in such a cheap manner?

It is posted in a genuine effort to prevent buyers paying full market rate for what they believe to be original records, when in fact they are purchasing a counterfeit or fake. The record concerned is high value and hence it is posted on this forum to make any innocent parties and potential buyers aware and for them to check what they are buying is real. It’s in the public interest. An original has sold for USD 5561 – a fake is worth maybe USD 80 The dj concerned will not speak about the matter on here. Please do not message them. They have been very kind to allow the details to become known. A genuine wish to help others. I have spoken with them on pm messages in Facebook and on the telephone. Sean Chapman, a long established dj purchased the above record. The record was sold to Sean as an original at a fair price deemed to be the market rate at the time. About 3 months ago. That record was sold as an Original. Sean paid and popped it on the shelf. When news of the recent bootlegs surfaced a friend of Sean’s advised him to check his recent purchase. A friend of Sean’s examined the record very recently and independently agreed that it was a bootleg counterfeit and a fake. Sean contacted his seller. That seller was totally shocked. They have agreed to refund Sean in full without question. The person who sold the record to Sean was asked on the telephone who sold him the 45. <removed by site> The person stated that he was duped, drawn in by what is now known to be “fake stories and believable bullshit”. The record was one to keep quiet about and came from a “secret source”. It was not given to him, he paid a “fair amount” for it. It was sold as an original. He did not buy a soul pack. It was bought in late 2015. So there you have a named example. END OF COPIED STATEMENT...............

If it's the same seller I'm thinking of, they have had a tendency to do that - miss digits off prices that is. I've had the same experience.

I can't remember the record (probably wasn't anything major or rare) but I did once get the infamous "Not selling to you mate. You're not on the approved list" treatment at Stafford.....................

Have you actually listened to this record or taken in any of the contents of this thread? The "meep meep" might be a bit daft I grant you and I well understand the argument that it might not the greatest soul record ever made, but no way can it be described as a "garage or Carolina beach type of tune"!! That is just daft to say that. Pure Philly soul, Gamble & Huff style, sounds like the Intruders all the way. "Garage or Carolina beach" ?

I reckon so Dave. Especially if it also lacks the raised matrix numbers under the label which seem to be a feature of all the Jenges and related label releases.

Says a record dealer!! To be expected for record collectors to get to the bottom of whether records are original or not. Don't read the thread if you're not interested.

Wisest words I have read on this thread. My two pen'orth of views, for what they are worth. Northern Soul is much, much less about a stylised type of sound than some would have you believe. It has always been broad and encompassed many types of soul and, yes folks - it's true, funk. Sure, there is a core traditional 'Northern Soul' sound that we have all loved over the years, but it spreads its net out so wide that this traditional sound is not the whole spectrum by any means. That is why the sound and tastes have changed and shifted all the time over the years - stompers, Modern, beat ballads, R&B, funk-edged, deep funk and so on and so on. Those that wish to pigeon hole it into a particular narrow sound miss the real point about Northern Soul which is that it is much more about a state of mind of digging out and championing forgotten, lost, undiscovered, unissued vintage 'music-of-black-origin' to use a phrase invented in the last 20/25 years. For this reason, I personally don't support the playing of stuff like Amy Whinehouse, Duffy etc etc - not because they aren't great music or don't have their roots in rhythm & blues music, soul etc. But because they have their popular, mainstream market and there is so much more that could be dug out and played instead. That to me is about the ethos and real spirit of Northern Soul rather than adherence to a stylised perception of what type of sound constitutes Northern Soul. All that said, if that's what folk want to hear when they go out, then who am I to criticise? As Steve says above, there is a lot of choice out there if you are inclined to seek it out. Make your choice and allow others to do the same.

It is definitely there on the Harry Moon. Looking at my scans I posted up earlier, this mark is not visible other than as the faintest of specks. In fact, to be honest, I have never noticed this before - it's so small and just looks like a mark on the label from wear and tear. However, on close examination, it is definitely there and I took a closer pic of it, as below. It is pretty much exactly the same position as on the picture of the copy above. I bought mine off George Mahood maybe 18 months/2 years ago.

That's a contradiction in terms. You cannot polish a turd. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig etc etc etc. Don't waste your money mate. Buy some decent original soul records instead - you might be surprised..............
