  1. A copy I was watching on eBay sold for £103 yesterday. Alan
  2. Nail polish remover with acetone is good for removing stickers. Alan
  3. Great to see the Van Dykes - Save My Love... going down a bomb at a local disco as far back as that. Alan
  4. I can't remember where it came from, but it's not a joke...honest! Alan
  5. I've found gently rubbing breadcrumbs from dried white bread quite successful in removing grubbiness and ringwear from white labels. Haven't tried it on coloured labels. It's possibly less abrasive than an eraser, which might lift some of the paper surface. Alan
  6. Very enjoyable, thanks.
  7. Even better I think is the version by the Dells, one of my favourites. Alan
  8. Though the Major Lance one is so slick and well produced it makes Ronnie MiIsap sounds like a rough cover version. Incidentally, the worst version must be the Soul Fox Orchestra instrumental, even makes the Beatstalkers sound good.
  9. ...and it's a $200 Buy It Now from Craig Moerer on ebay at the moment.
  10. Maybe not huge, but I think there is some demand for this record. I think it's the kind of thing that years ago would have been known as a tape-swappers record. When it appears on ebay there's usually healthy bidding. I'll be watching Brooky's auction with interest. Alan
  11. Ha, not exactly - but I would probably have it in my top 5,000 (otherwise I wouldn't have bought it). Alan
  12. I have to confess to liking it a lot (seriously), but agree it's never a £300 record. Alan
  13. How about Riverside, for Mark Murphy - Why Don't You Do Right. Alan
  14. I remember Mike Raven playing this as a new release on his Sunday night radio show (groan, showing my age), and have never heard it played anywhere since. I had it on reel-to-reel tape for a while then bought it. Always liked it. I agree even the demo would be unlikely to fetch a lot. Alan
  15. I don't think you need a book. You'll find listings here of all the UK Tamla Motown releases. https://www.broadwayboogaloo.co.uk/boogooA56.htm Look for the lowest release number of the one's you're interested in e.g. The Velvelettes - These Things Will Keep Me Loving You - original release TMG580, reissued in 70s as TMG 780. Several got pressed more than once under the same release number but with small differences in print font, but I would consider these all to be originals provided, as mentioned earlier, they have "Sold subject to..." up to TMG703. Pictures of many are available at: https://www.45cat.com/45_search.php?sq=tmg+501&sm=se Alan
  16. Fatboy Slim's "Soul Surfing" sample "I'll do a little bit more" by the Olympics. Alan
  17. Goods have to be rejected within a 'reasonable time' if you want to demand a refund. 3-4 weeks is usually considered the limit. However, as the record wasn't as described, the buyer notified this promptly, and the seller appears to have acknowledged this, I think the seller is still obliged to put things right, though need not give a full refund. If this was something other than a second-hand record, the seller could provide a repair or replacement. With a used record (and assuming there is no dispute about whether the purchaser has made the condition worse), I think the seller should at least give a reduction on the purchase price, down to what the condition merited. Alan
  18. A couple of years ago I won a mint copy of Ronnie Savoy - Big Hand, Little Hand on eBay, for about $20 when I would have expected it to fetch at least 3 time as much. Sent payment straightaway. Next day the seller sent a refund, saying very sorry but he couldn't find the record! I think the broke-on-train story sounds plausible by comparison. Also, I could imagine your seller sending a 'dispatched' email just before heading off to the post office, but if he was planning to say it got broke, why bother to do that - he could just have written that it was broken, . Maybe he was telling the truth? Better giving him the benefit of the doubt than have it gnawing away at you, I think. Alan
  19. It's a pity it's now a forgotten oldie, but Damita Jo's "I'll Save The Last Dance For You" on Ranwood (answer to the Drifters' massive hit "Save The Last Dance For Me") would have been a good candidate for this thread. Alan.
  20. Would be interesting to see a list of what he played. If the format issue was put to one side, what would people think of the set. Alan

I agree...and she had so many great records that could have been played. Alan

It's been great so far, well worth tuning in. Here's what was played in first 45 minutes.. Ravin Mads - Where is love Ralfi Pagan - Girl from the mountain Parliaments - I found out Hatti Winston - pass me by Chuck Jackson - Waiting in vain Ralph Graham - What am I to do Eugene Smiley - Yes it's you Dave Wilson - Funny that you should say that Reatha Reese - Only lies Ken Williams - Get to know you Jimmy Jules - The new year Timothy Wilson - Pigtails Timothy Wilson - Just another guy on a string Robert John - Who could ever believe it. I have to go out now. Alan
  25. I agree it's confusing but I think it means there are 600 records, 100 of which have 'good' (different) tracks on both sides (being reissues) making 700 different 'good' tracks in the box. Alan
