  1. Willie and the Mighty Magnificents - Souling. Dave Thorleys old Frankie Crocker cover-up I used to have this a long time ago on All Platinum but last weekend I picked it up on Stang? Is this a re-issue, boot? - any one have an idea of price? Thanks
  2. Writing this at work. Picked up some nice 70's bits and pieces at the weekend and among them was a 45 by Fire and Fury on Ram but I cant remember the title. It is a very nice 70's mover. Anybody heard/know it?
  3. I contacted Daptone about this 45 as I was going to see Sharon Jones in Hamilton, Ontario a couple of weeks back and always thought this 45 was only available at the gigs. They told me it was now available on the website but didnt mention it as a re-issue and when you consider how many shows these guys do they must be re-pressing this constantly?
  4. Sharon Jones - What Condition is now available on the Daptone web site, bought one last week.
  5. 49c from The Re-Use Centre here in Burlington, Ontario about 2 years ago. I only bought cause it had Take My Heart on it, had no idea about the Losing Control track. In fact the whole album is pretty good.
  6. Here in Burlington, Ontario we have a huge warehouse called the re-use center. It is basically council run to try and stop people dumping in the municipal tip. Every Wednesday there is a queue to get in as Monday and Tuesday are the days they put out the new stock. I have found tons of Soul, Funk, Jazz and Reggae in the 5 years I have been here including 45's by Tammy Wayne, Doug Banks - 2 copies, Tommy Yates, plus 100's of Motown, Northern 45's at 25c each. They actually have a local record dealer who prices rare stuff before they put it out but that just means charging me $3 for mint copies of albums by The Monitors, Marvin, Bobby Stewart, Carla Thomas, Clarence Carter, Sam and Dave, the list goes on. Albums are normally 49c. They also have free boxes at the entrance and in the last couple of months I have got Manu Dibango, Crusaders, Ahmad Jamal, Joe Farrell - Tamla and Billy Eckstine - Tamla albums in really good shape for nothing!!!!!!.
  7. Went to the big record show in Toronto yesterday. I have picked up some incredible 45's over the last 5 years and one dealer in particular always had a nice bag of 45's for me to go through, he has sold me literally 100's of great and rare northern and I have never paid over $5C for any of them. Anyway, he handed over a bag and there was some nice bits and pieces and I handed them over and he said " oh, most of these are listed in Martin Koppells price guide" and proceeded to quote ridiculous prices. I just said "good luck selling them for that" and so closes another chapter in my Northern record hunting. I did manage to pick up Marv Johnson - Come On And Stop - Canadian and Eddie Holland - Im On The Outside Looking In - Canadian Tamla for $1 each!! As an aside, Martin Koppell had a stall at the show and I think just about every one of the 70 dealers there had copies of his guide by the end of the show!!!!!!!!

Johnny Intrigued as to where you live as the away end is on Whaddon Road!?!? We use to have a saying as kids - "red sky at night Whaddon's alight"
  9. Does anybody have an email for the guy who runs Soul Rennaisance - I think it was Martin Bradley? Or anybody have any back issues they want to get ris of?
  10. I received a Tamiko Jones - Spellbound - cracked in half but without any visible signs of damage, folds etc to the package. I am still convinced the robbing get sent me a cracked record!!!!!!! I have also received cracked copies of Bobby Sheen issue and The Prophets - Stephanye promo in the past - not bad I suppose for 30 years of buying records through the mail.
  11. The only one I buy now is Shades OF Soul although I did also enjoy Soul Rennaisance. I have the first 3 but have since moved to Canada - what number are they on now.

Is there a soul 45 called " start the season with high expectations and let every body down by December "? Cheltenham Town FC - Pride of Cheltenhamshire.
  13. There was a family at the end of our road called The Blakes - scary lot they were - all skinheads - and I used to knock about with one of them. Everybody used to hang out there and they had all the Motown, Atlantic, Trojan stuff going all the time - and one that always stuck in my mind was Donnie Elbert - Little Piece Of Leather - had a look at the label - Sue - and that was it - hooked. I wasnt allowed to have a number one though - my dad said he'd kick the crap out of me if I did!! - 35 years later and I have no choice!!
  14. Could I get a copy as well please. knew@branttel.com
  15. I can get you the latest copy from Indigo - national book store chain in Canada - and ship it to you. Just send $US by return.
  16. I meant no disrespect with "the other bloke" comment, I just couldnt remember his name.
  17. I have been listening to the re-run of this in Canada on the internet for a few months now. She plays a lot of oldies, youth club stuff but then she does play a lot of some shite as well. The skip 5 minute button is a great invention. The last few weeks she has been off and some other bloke has been playing a lot of quality oldies.

  21. This is one of the few times a year I can actually say I am home sick. As a Bishops Cleevonian ( about a mile from the course ) we used to have a good week at the races ( best year was when Garrison Savannah won the Gold Cup ) as he was part owned by one of the guys in our football club - Bishops Cleeve - pride of the Hellenic league. To cap it all I was listening to Five Live on t'internet Monday and they were broadcasting from the Kings Head in Prestbury.
  22. Dave Been in Canada for 5 years and have bought a lot of Canadian Motown and have never seen a pic sleeve. I have bought a dozen US ones and would be very interested if there is any Canadian sleeves. Pictures anyone?
