Each to their own , take from the music what you can and enjoy it, if local soul nights playing oldies is your thing do it , other people would sooner travel to hear records still been broken or records only played by a select few on ovo . Nobody is right or wrong just two different ideas on the way the scene fulfils their life. Still don,t get the dressing up thing that seems to go on at a lot of these oldies nights though All the best for Christmas and the New Year.

Each to their own , but listening to the same regurgitated oldies would drive me insane. Just a question do you also wear the seventies gear as seen at most oldies nights and if so why ?

Reading your posts on this topic I would assume you were naïve and with that in mind a youngster new to the scene, but looking at your contributions to other topics you must be at least 50 and visited notable venues including Wigan. I just think this is some sort of wind up and if not you have not learned much about the scene over the years.

Interesting to see the quote that retailers are hiking prices for vinyl , when CDs became the norm the prices of limited runs of vinyl rose understandably. Just sheer greed now , just a fad though for many I would guess.

I think a listen to the flip gives more indication to the colour of Lee David, sounds white to my ears . Whatever the colour of the guy though '' Temptation Is Calling My Name '' is a great Northern record .

As already stated buy some CDs listen to youtube and then buy records you like , and steer clear of bootlegs because if you get the collecting bug you will only want to replace them with originals.

So do I , her version of 'Its Gonna Take A Miracle' is a fave of mine as is ' Silly'. Her voice has a sweetness and vulnerability about it .

Just a head up to some repeated soul on the beeb for the next couple of hours , Soul at the beeb + a Northern documentary featuring all the usual suspects.

The price is coming down on this classic , seems as it was listed a bit to high to temp anyone.

Conjures up an image of bygone Sundays , listening to BBC World Service with my mother while she cooked lunch. Hated that programme.

It is better than the Laura Lee vocal version ,but that would not take much beating

I agree , did not mind the Aquarian version when I first heard it ,but on hearing the other versions the kids voices now grate on me.

Are you aware that the Aquarian and the MGM are different mixes , the Aquarian version has some kids singing the chorus on it. It also got a release on the Boblo label as well .

Watched it last night before it was took off and I cannot see what the fuss is all about, 1 and a half minutes of a crap record danced to by about 6 lads and lasses watched on by a bemused totps audience.
