i wear ear plugs at work, they're custom fitted and work as a filter for harmful frequencies so you can hear people talking and even talk on the phone etc, they're not cheap mind but then have you seen the price of hearing aids , i think you may be able to get them fitted at some branches of boots, link below https://www.noisebreaker.com/
