  1. No too keen on Jaibi. Never really understood what's so special about that track. But 2nd release is a blast. Best tracks of both Kent Ballad CDs on one 45. Wow! Order on its way. @Ady: Do you have the rights of Arthur Freeman - I want to come home?
  2. interesting track list. I guess I'll try to see if I can get it over here in Krautsville. Pretty obvious you 50+ guys aren't the target audience
  3. Looking forward to the Munich gig. Never been a fan of Gospel. Let's see if you're gonna convert me
  4. Looking forward to getting my copy tomorrow. I just realized Lorraine's "lost without you" is the same song as Little Anthony and Teddy Randazzo. One of my alltime favourites. Great!
  5. I just played it again to make sure my ears aren't deceiving. It's definitely a re-recording. Maybe not an IL one. But definitely 80s or later. Even her voice sounds much more mature than on the original Stax LP. BTW, yes, mastering in general is great. So is the whole capsule.
  6. Eventually it arrived yesterday. Great package. starting playing through all CDs last night. I noticed some tracks are different mixes/takes. That's nice. But why is there at least one Ian Levine re-recording? Barbara Lewis - The stars with a synth backing? not good
  7. Wimp! Move to Bavaria, plenty of snow, -10° Celsius and no british TV Edit: I had my reservations about the movie but after I'd seen it a few times I realized what a fantastic film it is. And by the way, Burnsworth is a shit hole.
  8. Sean, Julius Wright did get a vinyl release in 1969 or 1970 on a very obscure german-only LP.
  9. Have posted this before but I hope it's getting more exposure now that it's available on a Kent CD, Julius Wright - Things will change: Youtube Link
  10. Great article about one of all time favourite records. Many thanks! I'm probably mixing it up. But I seem to recall that the Philips Intentions were an earlier incarnation of the Magnificent Men. Andy Rix has/had an acetate of a later Mag Men record that is credited to the Intentions, "It's got to be love". Scan here. I think it was Dave Bupp who confirmed that they were basically the same outfit?? Sorry if I cause any confusion. It was 10/15 years ago when I read that.
  11. Audio is obviously the original 60's recording dubbed in the vid.
  12. Nice one, thanks! BTW, although it's taken from german TV from about 8 years ago the actual gig was Montreaux Jazz Festival back in 1969
  13. Was it really 97 that the site started? I thought it kicked off as an email-list?
  14. The name's Alferd Kersten, not Kerston. Owner and main producer of Kerston records. He's still alive. John Harris was reissued using the original tapes. Very likely IMHO they came from him and Bear Family licenced from him.
  15. The info that Marc Forrest posted came from the producer of the record. Is that true and factual enough?
  16. No, different stories. John Harris was never meant to be sold to the public. The band took the whole run to sell them at their gigs. The record was pressed on a german label but I don't see it as a german release because it was never released to the public. Soul Explusion and many other US army outfits were actually released to the public. There were plenty of bands doing the US army circuit, meaning they went from airbases to barracks, playing for GIs only. John Harris was such a band. Non-US army folks weren't allowed to attend those gigs.
  17. I really like the record now, it's a grower. The strings are just fabulous. Pretty obvious they were added either by producer Fred Kersten or at least on his recommendation. European HQ of the US army was Heidelberg at the time. Majority of the german US army contingent was based in the area Kaiserslautern/Heidelberg/Frankfurt. From what I understand the band took the whole run pressed (~250) to sell them at army base gigs. IMO best chances to find any copies in Germany is were the army was based. But I wouldn't be surprised if there's a copy tucked away in the old AFN radio archive. It used to be here in Munich until early/mid 90s but was relocated to Frankfurt. AFAIK it's still there. 100's of 1.000's of records locked away.
  18. PS: Am I alone in thinking this was probably recorded at a slower speed? It sounds just a tad too fast to me...
  19. If I was a mod I wouldn't have said "please". You were referring to somebody playing a reissue instead of an original of same price. Basically another dull and boring original vs reissue post. And off-topic. But seeing others joined you now I'll leave you guys alone with yet another discussion about playing out reissues or not.
  20. When you want to discuss issues like this please open a separate thread. Thank you.
  21. You're right. Post free outside Germany. Think someone @ Bear Family screwed it up when he put up the auction.
  22. Post is 3,99 Euros, not free. Cheapest way is still to buy it off their website.
  23. My copy arrived two days ago. Not off centre and excellent sound quality. Well done, Bear Family.
