  1. The problem with these Benji, while definitely creative, they are againt Ebay's new rules and you risk some action from Ebay. Especially if your buyer is relatively knowledgeable and complains to Ebay about contraventions to the rule. Now I'm not saying you won't get around it but the only failsafe way is, as Pete S notes, increasing the starting price. Ebay wins a bit more insertion fee but at least you cover the larger amount of your cost in p&p. Regards...
  2. I'm not sure how you can get round the postage cost this way. When you try to list any 'media' item you have to specify a cost for postage whichever option you choose for postage method. If you don't put £0.00 you can't proceed with the listing. Regards
  3. A small selection of tunes with soundclips and label scans. Some interesting sounds this time and nice double siders. If we are really hung up on 'rarity' then we are specifically talking about those records that were released/produced in the most limited of numbers. Now we all know with this definition that the price does not necessarily reflect rarity. There are many records that are in demand/popular that are far from rare given the narrow and specific definition. The key should always be to buy what appeals to you. If we really want to know the records that are truly rare then we need a system of identifying the number of any particular record produced/issued. There is a project to do this for garage 45's which can be checked out at https://www.finerecordingstudio.com/g45/ and it's something that guys over on Fryers forum have been discussing. The problem for this approach for soul and funk records are the sheer number of records produced/issued in these genres and who/how the data could be compiled. There will always be gaps in our knowledge, there will always be 'new' discoveries and finds of records previously thought 'rare'. IMHO the beast approach is not to get hung up on following the crowd and worring about rarity and price, I'd rather go out and find the records that appeal in the vast sea of quality tunes out there. Regards..
  5. Ditto. Looks right to me BTW What's this fetching at the moment in comparison to the Westbound release? Regards...
  6. Bri What should be resonable for the not often seen w/d copy - probably £75.. What you'd get if you put on Mike's next sale.. Who knows Regards..
  7. I don't know what you people think, but I was pretty amazed at the latest price Darrow Fletcher - My Young Misery fetched on ebay the other day. Now I know that Mike (thatgirl75) has a pretty high profile and attracts alot of bidders, and therefore high prices. I also acknoledge know this track is popular at the moment but 24 Bids and a sale price of £224.06 - that seems steep to me. I suppose it's the usual case of popularity driving scarcity as opposed to rarity. Doubtless, it's a nice track but you can pick up a copy Darrow Fletcher - What Have I Got Now / Sitting There That Night - Jacklyn for a lot less. It just goes to show what a price premium a prominent seller can command! Regards..
  8. 'One Day' stills sounds real fresh.. those drum breaks are just fabbbb!! Good luck with the new label Andy Regards..

  10. Can't remeber a time when 'Please Stay' wasn't a big or well known record. As regards reissue, it was on Kent b/w Tommy Hunt 'The Work Song' Regards...

Jocko, for what it's worth, I paid £20 for mine but, as in your case, that's when those with taste picked up this number. If you want it now put your hand in your pockets and offer something decent and respect the guy's post. As for Mr Domar, his approach was and is idiosyncratic (big word alert!) but is bullshit free. Even if his sales approach and bedside manner can be disturbing to the uninitiated (another big word :-) Best of luck with the sale...

  13. Hi Mark The obvious answer is to increase the weight on your tone arm. Dependent upon how much adjustment your deck allows, you can add more with a little blu-tac and some currency of the realm. I use 1p (1p > 3.56 g) or 20p (20p > 5.00 g). Cheap and cheerful I know but it does help to iron out the jumps in most cases. Regards..

  16. It's a very strange contradiction that someone with one of the most soulful voices ever had such an inner demon. Strange but not unusual in the truly talented. Try and balance the vocal on 'Walk Away From Love' and the darker side in his life.. David Ruffin - Walk Away From Love -

  20. It will be 'For Dancers Only' as that was released in 1982 around the same time as the article. Had a look at my copy and there's nothing to reference it so I'd be interested to see that 'bumpf' Regards..

Never a dull subject cause there's a welath to choose from. So here's two; the first an all-time masterpiece and the second a current favourite (again)... Frankie Beverly & The Butlers - If That's What You Wanted / Love (Your Pain Goes Deep) & Monique - I wouldn't Believe / Never Let Me Go Regards..
  22. Through the mists of time... The fist proper Northern record (i.e. not Stax, Motown etc) Frankie Beverly & The Butlers - 'If That's What You Wanted' On the Inferno re-issue catalog# HEAT 4 (clear vinyl copy). The year 1979 and the location was our youth club disco. Totally blew me away... Forever!
  23. I likes this one I does.. Very evocative of the Motor City Regards..
  24. Just noticed there's not many clips or info on this one. This is a track from the strangely named 'Derc Hotzog' which was a favouite at Stafford. When it was first played it was covered up as 'Little Cubie & The C's - When I Settle Down'. Find below refosoul clips of both sides: Derc Hotzog - Church Going Girl - Hamilton 101 - Derc Hotzog - Puppy Love - Hamilton 101 -
