  1. It was spun a lot round the stoke area around 87/ 88, at keele, highland suite, longton ect
  2. couple of thing I remember from the 8ts, Joe Stampley/ uniques- not too long ago and Anita Hulmes - what will I do Think the Anita Hulmes was a stafford track but was certainly a big spin around 87 for a while.
  3. Brought this issue up a while ago, tis a pile, no large pile, of steaming turd and absolutly nowt to do with the Northern scene. I could go on about so called oldies fans being so ready to dance to this, and other reggae tunes along with Mel Torme and and Chris Farlow stating 'it was played it the wheel!' like its a defence! These same oldies punters detest any northern they've not heard before and would run a mile from any dancefloor that played any authentic 6ts, black, record they'd not heard of.
  4. Got the black soul music and just bought a copy of mamma'a little baby, was wondering if they'd been played, when and where these two first aired? i think I'm right in saying soul saurce was a wheel thing though I know it was also spun at the golden torch too.

Sorry for the dumb typo guys, new one posted.
  6. dustna spayke stowke youth? These records were issued nationally by larger lables rather than being reissued for the northern market in the early 7ts, think that the rule of thumb that I and others usually follow.
  7. dustna spayke stowke youth?
  8. its so hard as taste can change soooooo much.
  9. Its been said before mate, but its just pedantry to confuse this issue, national, local, it dont matter it was an origianl issue.
  10. I was told that James Trouble used to take his own cart around with him for this reason.
  11. thanks for that. Totally forgot about this Ian, thanks for the reminder.
  12. Change @ the white star in stoke, is 100% OVO for sure, the vast majority of tunes spun have never been booted anyways. Genuine soul event where we tend to focus on classics is also OVO only, long may it reign!
  13. Not really the sort of thing I'm talking about my freind I was talking about track that are unknown os semi known that fro one reason or other havent quite got it, but could easily cut it with minor alterations, there are loads of other examples like the one Mace posted. any links? Mr K is the King when it comes to disco edits, he along with Moulton virtually invented them

  16. If I ever get me shite together I'm going to cut a hip hop track based around a sample off the solo, it'd sell bucket loads, I'm suprised puff 'ken' Doddy aint on it already, stick KRS1 on top and wa- la.
  17. you mentioned this to me but nothing could of prepared me  Lets put it another way Tony, what if your'e just offered, or hit upon this fantastic track on an authentic looking dub plate, you think its amazing, but discover its origin and its been doctored in someway or other.Do you continue to play it? shades of Ginger and the four vandals affair here, but surely to quote mr Gordy, its whats in the ................
  18. you mentioned this to me but nothing could of prepared me
  19. Is it ever acceptablee to play a re- edit or re- production at a night/ nighter? Just say you had a fantastic acetate of master recording of some lost 6ts, or 7ts recording, but it just wasnt finished, it didnt have a bassline, drums, or needed an organ to fill out ther sound or maybe a terrible phyc guitar solo in the middle . Just say you had a working knowledge of music production, pro tools. ect. Would you use your skills to complete the track, cut it onto acetate and play it out? Obviously there are loads of variations on this theme, which I'm sure you'll identitfy!
  20. Thanks Adey, very pertinent piont reminding me the of true purpose of promo copies, ie not to make rare soul collectors salivate, but to actually increase sales of the actual release.
  21. Fair point, Russ, I really wasnt trying to be mischeiveious about this, just curious. it would be a little peverse if the anniversary one's, that we all want, were the only ones where the artist didnt get any dough, but as you say there are all kinda reasons that an artist didnt get payed, even in the 6ts.
  22. Now I've always wondered with these, did melba get a royalty from the promo only anniversary? or is it better to play a horaces one, where perhaps she got she got at least some financial reward? Adey can you put us straight? you dont HAVE to pay royalties on promo copies do you?
