Just checked pp it wasn't the above, though it's great, it's this, is it out yet? Joe Johnson "What's The Matter With You Baby" b/w "I Still Love You- Help needed - post op amnesia

Just after recovering from an accident I pre- ordered a tune, just before Xmas, think it was by Willie somebody? For the life of me I can't remember the label or anything else, it was due for release mid February I think, any ideas?- Lillie Bryant Meet Me Half Way (Monarch Test Press)
Think I remember Dave Evison saying, he got one for his birthday from Soussan at Wigan, on his radio show years ago.- The soul scene
I agree with a lot you've said, there's not enough open mindedness, most records are overplayed in every element of the scene. However, I've seen similar letters in blues and soul in the 70's with sentiments bemoaning 'it ain't what it used to be', the north may rise again, but only if people will put there phones away! 😂- Paul Anka rare RCA uk issue

If you were out past night and got your phone our at some point, you're part of the problem, IMHO.- Dancing from the outside: A new era?

Whitchurch has been great, last Swinton, I enjoyed and I'm lucky to have a great, quality oldies night, Macclesfield, nearby and the superb more left field, FTMNTC just down the road. It's not like me to be positive! 😂- Dancing from the outside: A new era?
I have to say Paul, it's not specific to NS, look at break dancing or footwerk for example, are those guys really into the music or just showing their skills? There has always been a competitive element in NS, some amazing dancers that have all the moves technically, but never look like they were ' feeling it'.- Dancing from the outside: A new era?
Very interesting cultural development really, ' dance like the whole worlds Watching',but sadly a reflection on society at large. Similarly we an army of dance instructors ready to make a buck from a bunch of older folk who heard northern soul at the youthy when they were 15. I wonder if a sociologist is writing a paper on senior citizens subcultures? Definitely not sexy enough for most university professors.- How records are made

- The Gathering @ the Basement, Hanley
Although there's been some great nights post lockdown. For many It just seems like there's something missing for those that like their soul and funk gritty, low down and just plain mean. The basement is just what the name suggests, low ceiling and atmospheric, just like the venues from our dim and distant roots. The aim is for an uncompromising all-night event of driving soul, funk and R and B.- Following the Music Not the Crowd
It really was an absolute pleasure to be asked to DJ at FTMNTC. Soul nights are plentiful but this event is truly unique in allowing the djs the freedom to play what they want. Having missed the last couple of events it was great to catch up with old friends and see an evergrowing crowd of regulars attending the event. It was a real pleasure to DJ on the same bill as Martin who played an absolute blinding set, with a vanguard of quality, obscurity and diversity. To be straight forward, I didn't know half of what he played, he filled the floor and the diversity was amazing in Martin's set, which exemplified the FTMNTC ethos. Got to give credit to the residents and promotors who make the event possible and set the tone for the music. These lads are definitely on to something here!- 21 comments
