  1. Ditto....................lets here em all mixed up together on one dancefloor, just like they used to be, just like they should be. Russ
  2. It used to take us nearly 8 hours back then from the South Coast.................acroos country, changing trains, picking up 'things' along the way, I could only afford the train once a month so we would 'jump' the train sometimes too, there & back. When I went home for the weekend to Derbyshire we would sometimes get the coach up from the Brit on Trent Bridge..........this was luxury. Coming back we would stop at Birmingham Locarno or TOTW Stafford for the dayers, we would have o leave early evening to get the last train & inevitably had to stand all the way cos it was so packed !!!!. Happy day's. Russ
  3. This & the previous live 'Wigan' link are brilliant Pete. As a peice of history they are priceless. As importantly for people who never went or for people who have forgotten why we got into this music & on the scene it encapsulates the period. RS in my opinion in the later years of the Casino found his own & was fantastic, new records being broken every week, yes every single week, can you imagine waiting with baited breath for the next gem that would send you into a dancing frenzy. The scene was always about 'new' records being played & this was a particularly fertile time for RS. I hope that the people who listen to these podcasts not only enjoy them, but remember why we loved the Casino & RS in particular.......................... new discoveries both sixties & seventies alike every week, thats why I went & why I continue to be part of the NS scene to this day. Thank you for posting this up Pete. Russ

  11. Thank you Sean, will check them out for sure. Russ
  12. That is quite funny Chris, I had my biggest hit in Baltimore...............& I am the crappest record finder in NATO . Would totally agree with Orlando & Atlanta tho, from my experience. Back in August matey & looking forward to seeing you too. Russ
  13. Having some serious thoughts on this & I think that I may have an angle, good point matey. Im blown away by the responses to this thread & whilst there are a few negatives, i really do think that on the whole the South Coast is a hot bed of Rare Soul, its just a matter of tweeking the music policy & getting the right venue. I personally beleive there is room for a regular soul night, something along the lines of Abshott, Cagney's & the South Coast Soul Heaven do's................with possible Allnighters a few times a year with a broader music policy. No way will everyone be happy with everything all of the time & to try would be financial suicide, but I reckon we can fill a venue with like minded people & have a good time to some bangin' tunes. Russ
  14. Good luck with the 27th Simon. Agee with most of your comments too, particularly concerning the untapped younger element.............there is strength in unity...............it also means that it aint one poor sod taking care of all the bills . Russ
  15. Great to hear from you Ian, hope you are well my friend, Ill see ya in August/September for sure some where ???. Russ
  16. Received & understood mate & I agree entirely............I think a balanced mix of oldies & newies, DJ's who can put ego's on hold for the sake of the dancefloor when required & possiblly a second room playing less mainstream & or Modern & Crossover. Some very good points intelligently put...........thank you. Russ
  17. Thanks Jo, I have very fond memories of Cagney's & alway's thought that Jason managed to get things just right as the promoter. Remember at least one occasion when we were on together Jo & I had a ball, you'll be more than welcome at anything I might be involved in. Russ
  18. Certainly some passionate views about the South Coast Scene, Im listening to everyones advise, comments & observations & I reckon we have enough politics going on to be pretty successful . Thank you for everyones kind comments . You can be sure that if & when this happens it will be done properly & with a passion, & everyone will be made welcome. Derek I have a couple of venues in mind, neither in Southampton, so dont worry mate. Also there is the route of as a team we could be strong.............think about it, all our egos on hold, pool our resourses. I started the thread to gauge opinion for some sort of promotion, possibly an Allnighter, I will not be making any decisions until I get back home in August & even then any decent promotion will need some long hard planning & advertising, in the mean time Im enjoying hearing everyones input, so keep it coming................proves you buggers aint dead , there's life in the old South Coast Scene yet. Whats Jason up to these days BTW ????. Russ
