Northern Soul - The Film - News, mainstream and more
Right I will stick my neck out & tell ya now, if anyone can do NS justice within the context of a movie then its Elaine......she will go the extra yard & has/does live the life, she 'gets it' & you better believe it........I cant wait for this to come out, the lengths Elaine has gone to, to ensure the credibility of this movie are incredible, the difference between this & Soulboy will be like comparing Footsee to the Mellow Souls........every time I see the footage of the dancers, the hairs on the back of my neck go up.....just looks right to me, the fact these folk are diggin' it shows.......go Elaine !!! Smooth Radio Northern Soul Special On Now
As I thought a totally missed opportunity, not one track in that lot that truly represents what is being played at Nighters on a contemporary NS Scene, no wonder folk get the wrong impression......oh well it was to be expected really. Thanks for posting Brian. Best Russ

Just remembered as well, when KR was discussing Frank Wilson he said one sold for 15k recently - thought the one that JM shifted went for 25K ???. Best Russ

Barbara Stant - My Mind Holds On To Yesterday
Beware the recent presses done from the same stampers - there is something in the dead wax that eludes to the pressing plant where they were done, but cant remember the details, there was a thread a while back where this was discussed. Best Russ

Smooth Radio Northern Soul Special On Now
The first 2 hours was the usual boring same old, same old with the smashy & nicey of Northern Soul (there goes my set at the Biggest Northern Soul Allnighter in the World  ) Number two was Frank Wilson & number one was Dobie Gray, so that should give you some idea. I only listen to the first few of the 'current' Nighter spins of today as my internet connection went tits up, but the first couple were Janice, Joy Lovejoy & Nolan Porter.....All tracks voted for by the listeners, god only knows who they were cos some of the comments which accompanied the choices were comical to say the least........first 2 hours a total cheese fest, about as far away from a contemporary Northern/Rare Soul Scene as you could get......I only hope non of my non soul mates accidently came across this as I would have to commit some kind of Hari Kari to avoid the embarrassment, after 3 - 1,2,3 'On Her Way To Work One Morning................. . I would be very intersted to hear what was played in the last 2 hours, as you would hope things would have improved, not holding my breath though judging by the first three choices. Best Russ

Your Perfect Moment..on The Dancefloor
I just thought of another fantastic night.......the first Richard Searling Nighter at the 100 Club, musically unbeatable & I know this was probably me & my heightened senses & being in the groove so to speak, but at the end of RS second set he bigged up Butch's set & it was almost like he was passing the baton .....a perfect moment in time (in my head). Certainly both played amazing sets. Best Russ

Your Perfect Moment..on The Dancefloor
Many moments in my formative years, but heres 2 from the last 15 years or so.......100 Club the first night Ady dropped the first batch of unreleased RCA Pied Piper stuff........f*ck me, now that was special & Sam Dees at the Uptown Down South Newbury Nighter when he sang 'lonely For You Baby' live.......the culminations of months of planning, not knowing even on the night whether he would do it for sure & the look on the faces of the crowd when the first few bars pounded out.......wooooooooossssshhhhh !!!.
