Milton Wright On Alston
I was around doing clubs in this era.2 step was more of a northern thing apart from Terry Jones etc and the Norfolk village scene.Couldn't stand 2 step myself and always had to leave the soul rooms at Southport after 20 mins as the music wad dull as dishwater. The only saving grace was when Searling played a northern oldies set.Back in London the deejays were playing stuff like Milton Wright Manfredo Fest Say It Girl loads of Roy Ayres They Call Me Mr Tibbs Eddie Bo CLarence Wheeler RIght on etc. Even the fashion was different.....2 step peg trousers dress shirt slop on shoes college boy hair and geeky glasses.London rare groove leather box jackets Carpenter jeans black boots tom o shanter hats and shirts from Rockit.

Are Some Northern Fans More Into Collecting Than The Music?
I collect different sorts of music, freakbeat, psych, jazz, funk, northern etc and try to collect the best music of every genre....never bothered being a label completist as most have their fair share of turkeys....I do breathe a sigh of relief though when I see big money records advertised and hear them and find out they are crap (IMHO)...that's one I don't need. There are quality music collectors, just rare collectors, label completists and people who just want the music on any format....i personally have always been into original stuff and wouldn't settle for a fake picasso on the wall.

Soul Contributions To Rock

Soul Contributions To Rock
It's even more bizarre ........Ian Kilminster (Lemmy)used to follow the British Birds who featured Ronnie Wood. The Birds did a version of Leaving Here for UK Decca which is where he probably where got it from.He then went on to acid head sitar band Sam Gopal.Oh and the drummer out of Motorhead Filthy Taylor was a teenage skinhead.

Soul Contributions To Rock
It was Clare Torry who they asked to replicate an orgasm...but i'm sure Doris Troy did backing vocals elsewhere on the lp.JJ Jackson was the UK equivalent of BST and another group called The Web who released an lp on Deram called Fully Interlocking.Zapatta Schmidt on Uk President also mined the BST sound and this was an alter ego for Eddie Grant....i had the album with a mincer on the front but it's not great. One of the best tracks that marries rock and soul is Romantic Attitude by John Fitch on UK Beacon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJEdHux8StE

Soul Contributions To Rock
Have been listening to The Doors Soft Parade (Runnin Blue,Morrison's tribute to Otis) recently and suddenly realised why I like it....the saxaphone player. I had never bothered checking out who it was playing and a quick google and found it was Curtis Amy.Got me thinking why I like Gimme Shelter by the Stones and of course it is Merry Clayton on backing vocals and released a version of it herself on Ode.Remember in passing someone mentioned a few soul influenced singers on Dark Side Of The Moon.....what part did other soul artists have in shaping rock and name the albums. Bohannon on the slide Trombone https://www.georgebohanon.com/bio.htm

This is your best bet....UK King what a schizophrenic label..there were loads of Rumblers Soulful jerk knocking around at one point that were unplayed and you had force the record out of the sleeve.I have had the Heather record for a long time as i used to buy anything that looked odd or promising on the label.I think she was irish from memory.Never heard the Sonny Hines.....what's it like? https://www.45cat.com/label/king

Ian Levine 3 Hour Podcast Solid Soul Sensations
Bob Wright was the lead singer of Los Bravos...he had a spell away from music in 70-71 and worked on a Texas ranch and came back to London. He recorded this in late 71 and it was released in Jan 72.I wonder if Ian played it as a contemporary release at the time.

Ian Levine 3 Hour Podcast Solid Soul Sensations
Pleasant easy listening music but not Northern enough for me either.....I'm sure he is playing this stuff and on the night will start playing a set of uptempo unknowns.Ive a CD he compiled for the Rocket and will put up a tracklisting most of which got severely panned on here. From memory Benny Harper-My Prayer,Old Devil Moon-Adam Wade,Return To Me-Bobby Samson plus a load of other great stuff.
