Youre young and not got the original vinyl...........sorry get junkshopping and finding sounds.A big part of the "northern soul" experience is the vinyl aspect...trading/buying/finding.Any monkey can buy a few hundred CDs and proclaim to be a deejay.If you want to be taken seriously then do the graft.If you don't want to be taken seriously then put on your northern soul CD night.I don't see how going to the HMV and playing a set from CD is "keeping the faith".There was a name for the mods who simply donned a parka and bought Carnaby Street patches and Jam shoes.....it was "plastic".These CD events are the equivalent.If you haven't got the original vinyl and have boots there's loads of dedicated deejays on here with a myriad of soul music on ovo (they are experts and should be used).Don't try fooling yourself with your Grapevine collection.The current mod scene is a mix of r&b,jazz,ska latin etc and isn't northern soul.They are two separate scenes as is "the soul scene".The northern soul scene was the mid seventies northern mod/scooter scene before the 79 revival and evolved from the late sixties twisted wheel scene. The hundred club originated I'm led to believe as a platform to play the early mod scene sounds and started playing out and out northern later on in the mixture.It then pulled in people from the eighties mod scene who got more into soul.

Ive a demo of the Doris Willingham plus a load of the non soul 45's Lyons And Malone (Mod),Mike Quinn (twee pop psych),Dee And The Quotum (great),Roundtable(funky organ inst) are all collectable records by psych heads.There's also some girlie pop stuff and a few reggae bits ( a thing called Banana by the EK Bunch which mentions skinheads is collectable). The Sugarlumps from memory is a reggae version with an early moog sound.The Swamp 45 is reggae and from memory Reggae 70 was a Dave Barker cover as is the Niyah 45 (poor version of Rolf Harris). The Complete Cycle 45 is to be avoided unless you like a sub standard version of Clearwater Revivals I'm On The Road Again. The Migil 5 is poor pop as is the Paul Shelley.The Gaslight 45 is great.

I'm sure the New Faces did this on Pye or Picadilly as well

I think most people settle for the UK original or grey US boot (got rid of mine) ......there were some eighties Immediate things with unissued tracks on. There's a Traxter 45 released as a b side to a Crispian Peters thing and theres another similar sounding r&b organ instrumental on another one (title slips my mind).Both unreleased at the time.

Pubs are shutting down everywhere.I recently did a drive from Islington up to Harlesden and counted 9 tinned up pubs.Luxury flats no doubt or evangelical churches.

Mines styrene........D-MDS-1 in first run at 7 o'clock on girl side LW at 4 o'clock, BF at 3 o'clock A at 1 oclock ...........other side LW one o'clock, D-M- 05-2 in first run at just past 3'o clock.....is it a boot, if so can the soul Police be easy on me as I have played it out?

The healthiest scooter scene was in the mid seventies and a lot got out in 79 when the mod revival appeared....it had been an ongoing movement since the sixties and people didn't like a load of plastics in parkas appearing.I still ride all over the country .........we are all a tame species now.Imagine organising a raid on the Casino with over a thousand kids..think they were too busy with local football matches and bootboys to spend time on looking at a load of kids .The local plod can't have had massive manpower.

A Carl and Maria Willingham spin...........come on we need to embrace pop reggae on the northern scene.There was another £10 pink Island spin as well that suddenly shot up to £150 and i have heard of a few Joyce Bond tracks being spun.Why doesn't someone book Wrighty for these deep funk northern gigs.........he's been collecting and deejaying this stuff for years as was Trouble and Jap Jimmy.

There are loads of these funky reggae soul records Jackie Edwards-I Must Go Back is one of them.......who originally played Wally Coco on the funk scene and when?.It sounds like one of the records Trouble/Wrighty/Keb/Snowboy would have played for a brief period.

The Shout 45 is great but the Tuska 45 is just run of the mill boring boogaloo.....is this being touted as northern souls future??. I think I will stick to Brief Encounter.....great northern styled funk and fast enough for the dancers.

Or we can listen to new and undiscovered sixties northern soul sounds alongside the underplayed instead of sounds from the funk scene/latin jazz scene/doo wop scenes/rockn roll/reggae scenes.I wouldnt go to a jazz/latin night and expect to hear Eddie Parker although i wouldn't be suprised to hear Charlie Parker

I think it's a great record but there's hundreds out there with the similar sort of riffs......oh yes it's called Deep Funk.It seems northern deejays are getting on the deep funk bandwagon ten years too late and force feeding it on the northern soul scene.A few of these type of records aren't bad but there's deejays who play whole sets of it.I'ts an Emperors new clothes scenario.It was/is still being tried with latino lowrider/doo wop sounds and the latin soul thing.It seems people will play anything to avoid the traditional sounding northern records.I'm waiting for The Damned/Pistols etc to be touted as the new thing then I'm selling it as northern punk. Think I might start spinning this........he's a proper northern soul
