  1. I first heard this about 10 years ago when Paul Weller played it on his 'vinyl classics' radio show. It took me another 2 years to get a copy. If I remember correctly it's a US only release. I also have the version by 5 stairsteps and have to agree that it's not a patch on the impressions. Great version of Inner city blues on the flip. Good luck with your search. Dave
  2. "I'd rather hurt myself", what an incredible tune! Good luck with your sale Dave
  3. What version mate? Dave
  4. Jean Wells: With my love & what you got (we can turn the world around) / Have a little mercy -Calla Top record. Dave
  5. Thanks for the info Paul. I have always wondered about a Motown connection with this track as it's published by Jobette. Now to get a copy of the Spinners CD. Great stuff, Dave
  6. Hi John. How many participants were you thinking of?? Dave
  7. "The Snake" is really a victim of it's own success and is probably disliked as it's been so overplayed. Personally I think it should never have been released as a single. If you listen to his "Searching for the dolphins" LP the track fits in well with the rest of the compositions. As for the track sounding weird, that's probably because it has it's origins in the church as a parable warning of the dangers of sin, and doesn't suit the contemporary arrangement given to it. The original version by Oscar Brown Jr is true to it's gospel roots. Dave https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EP92tBs6cx8
  8. Nice version and quite rare too. I remember the flip side was pretty good as well. Dave
  9. Sums up my thoughts exactly. Dave
  10. I heard it first on the Goldmine "Soothers & Movers" CD about 15 years ago. I agree, top track and (as I get older) my preferred side to Dr Love. Dave
  11. Nice one Andreas. It reminds me of those Motown Master tapes that litter the internet. Thanks for sharing Dave
  12. This sounds great on original - top tune. Dave
  13. That's valued too low. £800 is more realistic: https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=leon+haywood&x=0&y=0 Great tune, but a bit long in the tooth nowadays. Dave
  14. It all depends on the LP in question and your personal preferences. I've only heard the stereo version of 'Soul Superman' and it sounds great to my ears. However,my 'Souled out' LP by the Rightous Brothers sounds much better in mono as does 'Feelin' Bluesy ' by Gladys Knight & the pips. I really feel that the last two lps were actually intended as mono cuts and the stereo versions sound too separated. In terms of which to buy, I always go for the stereo version and convert to mono on my pc using cooledit pro or similar. I also convert all my mono 45's (recorded with a stereo cartridge) by the same means to save them to digital, as it reduces distortion. Finally, I remember reading somewhere that a lot of 60's recording sessions were 'mic'd' for mono as the studio engineers were trained in that format. The mixing engineeers also specialised in mono so those mixes were of a higher quality than the stereo versions. Good topic, Best, Dave
