  1. Nice 45 and a great track. It's taken from their 'Feelin' Bluesy' Lp and did not get a 45 release in The US or UK as far as I know. Album also contains the sublime "what good am I (without you)" which didn't get a 45rpm release either. Cheers, Dave
  2. Hi Mark. Price wise there is one currently on eBay at £3 with 2 days to go. I tried to sell my copy in January and had no takers at £5. Good luck with it, Dave
  3. Generally speaking the presence of the ' MR ' stamp or marking only indicates that the record was manufactured by Monarch Records in Los Angeles, and not its autheticity. Best, Dave
  4. I bought a Twilight 100 issue for $10 (vg+) a few weeks ago and someone recently had a mint demo in the sales section of SS for £15 which I thought was a bargain. The official 'A' side "Come on sock it to me' was a big seller in Chicago upon its realease and most copies that turn up tend to be in 'party record' (knackered!) condition. Great track from a supremely gifted artist. Dave.
  5. For me it could only be "for the rest of my life - Out of sights" on Saru.
  6. Great article Shaun -thanks for sharing.!

  10. Funny you should mention this track I was playing both versions myself the other day - both are superb. I think Ben e King has done a lot of credible cover versions, there is also a great verison of Lou Courtney's 'what do you want me to do' on Ben's 'Supernatural' LP and there's also 'Bet you didn't know that' from his 'I had a love' album which outshines the original by Frederick Knight. Hearing another (decent) take on a record is what makes record collecting so enjoyable. Best, Dave.
  11. Just what i was thinking Mikey, especially as the seller mentions the Taxman in the listing. Dave
  12. I don't think he's going to sell it either - but you never know - there's always someone....and it is a rare record with a lot of hype surrounding it. On a completely different note, I was just thinking how the internet has completely changed our perception of rare records. After reading this post I went onto E-bay and saw a picture of the 'Ivories on Wand' , a record, the existence of which up to a few years ago, was considered an urban myth. And all of this through a mobile phone on my way to work... Anyway, think I'll be holding onto my Kent UK issue for the foreseeable future. Dave
  13. Hi Soul-Sider. I have both of these tracks on the 'Let's Get It On (Deluxe Edition)' double CD from 2001. Great tracks BTW, especially Marvin's version of 'Gonna give you respect'. Best, Dave
  14. Good write up from last Saturdays 'Guide' magazine....... here
  15. According to this article, turntables actually outsold CD players this year, with 77,400 turntables sold against 41,400 Cd decks. The article is at the end of the page so you will need to scroll down to read it. Happy reading, Dave https://community.whathifi.com/blogs/industry_insider/archive/2010/07/23/vinyl-turns-the-tables-as-decks-outsell-cd-players-3d-makes-a-slow-start-receivers-rule-2010-uk-ce-sales-revealed.aspx

Got exactly the same problem with my HTC Legend (Android) smartphone. Dave
  18. Thanks again Sebastian for sharing your knowledge with me. I first heard the Montclairs (as many did) on a Charly Lp - 'Rare Soul Uncovered -Vol 1' and it was the mono mix. I never heard the US original on Paula but I assumed that it was also Mono, as so many soul 45's were/are. Years later a mate of mine played me the Contempo version and I was stunned to hear it in Stereo. That is why I bought the Contempo version, cos I considered it a better mix than the Paula release. Thanks again for clearing the matter up and adding to my knowledge. All the best, Dave
  19. Thanks Sebastian - do your know which one (if any) is superior? Dave ' timestamp='1281962711' post='1394842'] The UK Contempo release is not the same mix as the original US Paula 45.
  20. Hi Ken. All of the versions of 'reach out for me' mentioned in this thread are superb, but the version that always edges it for me is Roy Hamilton's. roy hamilton - reach out for me -
  21. Brilliant record! I have this on the UK Contempo lebel. Does anyone know if it is the same mix as the version on US Paula? Thanks in advance, Dave
  22. Hi, I first heard the track you mentioned during the 80's from that superb Kent Album. "I ain't myself anymore' was one of the stand outs for me, along with the incredible "Dear Bobby". A few years leter I managed to get a copy of 'IAMA' on a duke demo. On playing the record it sounded as though the bass was too prominent and rather spongy. I may be wrong as I don't have the Kent Lp to hand to compare, but I was sure they are both the same take, with the Kent version being a better mix of the 45 release? Then again, maybe the demo's were a poor mix which was later corrected on the issue? I agree with GarethX regarding the availability of the original master tapes when reissuing stuff but I think this makes record collecting more enjoyable. The Johnny Meastro track is a great example of this as it always sounded better at a venue when played from the original 45' with the falsetto break in the middle, which is missing from the reissue/CD cut. The reverse is true for 'let me give you my lovin' - although I prefer my copy on wand the (unreleased?) version via kent is every bit as good. Take care, Dave

Good Post. I usually go for vinyl copies if possible because they are more robust. I've got quite a few styrene records with cracks/tape on one side. As regards which sounds better? I was comparing my vinyl and styrene copies of Baby Washington's "your Fool" on US SUE the other day. Both are mint but the styrene copy sounds a lot clearer and 'sharper' to my ears than the vinyl one. Hope this helps, Dave
  25. Thanks for the info Bri. Quality track alright. I just played my copy for the first time in 6 months and it sounds great!! Dave
