  2. hi john, copy on tim browns list, may still have it...think it was £80 rob.h
  3. got the "right sound", just like "age of the wolf" by susan coleman, and yes, from that period when the scene developed blueeyedsoulitis which of course, is sneered at by elitists then as it still is now....but everyone danced to it and if it got spun now the same would happen again....i have even been considering getting myself a copy just recently....got to keep your finger on the pulse, yes?...always liked the label as well...oh, by the way...CHECK OUT "TICK-TOCK" BY CONNIE STEVENS bell 1971 thom bell production blue eyed philadelphia soul...WHAT A CORKER!! ROB.H
  4. marc, always knew deep down there had to be another cut of this track, now youve shown the way. remember john vincent playing this at wigan but at the time i thought the batteries in my cassette were shot as it sounded speeded up when i played it at home!. just to add irony, i bought a copy of the "slower" version off kieth williams about 9 years ago thinking it was the real deal. it was released on deluxe i think but i have seen other gaines releases on hbr and he was quite prolific on other labels....SO NOW I WILL BE LOOKING FOE EITHER 7" OR LP.....ANYONE SELLING?...on hbr (of course!) rob.h
  5. anyone willing to part with a copy of "hey girl"? rob.h
  6. hi john, ditto comments to kieth, last time i actually heard it played was 2 or 3 years ago by rob smith but it is a great tune, almost psychedelic but there were some wierd and wonderful tunes played at the casino in the first 3 years, some you wouldnt get away with now but some are ripe for long deserved spin. rob.h
  7. hi kieth, dunno...not seen it in a long time....HAD a copy of lp in 70's....and your'e not gonna believe this but it was last track on side 1 so....got a sharp knife and cut it out to make a perfect 7"....HOW CRIMINAL WAS THAT?!....young and foolish in them days but this was massive at wigan and to be honest the cardboard(standard issue)sleeve does look tremendous an the title fits perfectly as it is on jubilee records however....value? you're the dealer so i guess id rely on your best guess....how does that sound? rob.h
  8. anyone got a copy of either of these for sale? rob.h
  9. cor blimey guv'nr, pass on me regards to the mexican taxi driver! and ave a word in his shell about madeline bell's doin things lp and does he ave a copy for sale...crystal? rob.h
  10. how about eloise laws - "if i dont watch out" - liberty 1980 gloria lynne - "ive got to tell somebody" - uk djm/us canyon tina mason - "what"(version) - capitol 5th dimension - "what does it take" - bell hearts of stone - "what does it take" - vip magnificent men - "keep on climbin" - capitol lori burton - "gotta make you love me" - mercury
  11. hi mick, has anyone ever conducted research on how the sleeve notes marry up to the pic yet this confusion persists, even after the same pic was printed in kev roberts 500 book.personally im convinced it is tina mason as the 2008 cd compilation released through cherry red has a concise booklet displaying various photos of ms.mason and consideration has to be given to the fact that this album was supervised by david axelrod plus the various tv appearances. it would be a bit foolhardy of anyone to try and pull the wool over the eyes of capitol records by having someone else pose as their latest protege, even in 1966....still as you and i know, this is fascinating piece of history, that only the northern soul scene can throw up!....and THIS VERSION is far superior to judy streets despite what happened to that at wigan. mick, if you have a sound clip, put it up on soul source and let people judge which version they prefer.
  12. how about "highwaymans"....dick turpin? rob.h
  13. voice judy street yes?....picture...DEFINITELY NO....this is tina mason, who also recorded "what" on the "something wonderful" lp u.s. only. check out photo on raresoulman - rarest of rare page. rob.h
  14. strangely remeniscent to james lewis "manifesto" though different voice bob.h
  15. COULD THAT BE T. ROY TEMPEST?!...EVEN ELTON MENTIONS "TITAN" IN CROCODILE ROCK......IT ALL FIGURES...DOSNT IT?....WHATS GERRY ANDERSON GOT TO DO WITH THIS???
  16. hi dave, thats a find..how good is it?. suppose the only version other than jimmy james, that anyone is aware of is by jay and the techniques....somebody in australia is liable to come up with something though!. p.s. when will tickets be on sale for totw? rob.h
  17. remember john vincent?....even now john has a penchant for spinning backing tracks, but he will be remembered nonemoreso than at the casino in its formative years...i suppose we now class this as being "leftfield" but in 73-75 john played some wierd and wonderfully odd-ball tunes....best of all, "the miami sound" by the gladiators which had a intro that sounded like a flutewhistle in an echo chamber. naturally, this was a cover-up for jack23 by the centuries on leopard records, an undoubted r&r stormer but with the right frenetic pace to satisfy the speed induced dancers at station road and believe me, this tune rocked 1800 people back then, all clapping in unison as any surviving cassette tape from that era , will testify. if john's earwiggin...does he still possess the infamous disc?....guy hennigan was another, and i think he still has an acetate of the valentino's "sweeter than the day before" instr., is it the only? the agent..."in trouble"
  18. knew someone out there would have the answer, now can it be located anywhere for sale or is it long since out of publication?
  19. Can any of you astute detroit anoraks help me locate a book( softback/glossy ) issued during the 80's/90's u.s. distribution only i believe. its purely photographic and is a rare insight into the motown family at work and play, the snaps being entirely taken by the stars, musicians and staff at motown.if i remember correct they are both colour and monotone. not sure who the print/distributor is and if it is long since deleted, i know that i have only ever seen it once, cant even recollect the title, therefore, this is either easy or a needle....so lets see who the agents are amongst you.
  20. may and i collect books and in somewhat of a precise manner....now this includes your fine dining cooks so it goes without saying we also watch everything in respect to this.so feasting your eyes on a book about the northern soul culture means it has to be a classy glossary, much in the same way as the michelin star tells you its something out of the ordinary. it gives me great pleasure to impress upon all who read this line, that this mightily impressive edict should adorn the shelves of all and sundry. price is an irrelevance, the time spent browsing it is far more precious. neil rushton, the archityal midland scribe, so genuinly in love with this wonderful music of ours, has conjured for your delights a restoration...a collage encompassing everything relevant to our understanding of a scene so uniquely created by us. the pictures leap out from the page like yesterday, reminding each and every one us who still lives and breathes, that we have worn the northern soul scene like a coat of many colours. northern soul stories, is like the birth of a new dish from the hands of ramsay, kitchen, waring, roux or fairlie, it stands out, proclaiming itself to be a cut above the others yet, it deserves accolades far beyond the reach of us mere mortals.in 2010 it will stand as a bench mark, by which others will aspire to gain greater recognition for a music we have held close to our hearts for over 4 decades. neil rushton is a genuine guy with a true heart and he has given us the storybook of our lives, our generations and has portrayed it with breathtaking speed of enthusiasm..."northern soul stories is not just a matter of life or death...its far more important than that" rob.h
