  1. well?.......so do we all think that the real BOBBY WOMACK is gonna stand up and we'll "hear him".....surely he's still got a song in his heart and his voice is gonna bang out...yeah?...or are we all gonna be subdued??,...this is a living legend we're talking about...he's how old?,...bobby bland ( god bless him ) was still kickin' it til just recently, a good few years older than bw mind,...still bearing in mind what i said in previous post about the long term effects of abuse of the vocal chords, he wouldn't be there, if the franchise didn't think he would cut it....i remember being told years ago about marvin smith and well after he had dispensed of his duties with the artistics and that he just croaked...well everyone is entitled to their opinions though i personally would respect the words of someone i knew to be a frequent attendee of any gig that featured someone or a group of the soulful variety. mccartney at the olympics was virtually screeching it out and elton didn't impress either...a lot of folk were embarrassed about that as well.....so,....best to judge after the event eh?
  2. well,...how come i missed that?, i watched the broadcast from 10.30 on bbc2 and the first thing i heard was miss you.....i know we can't have it all, but claiming to broadcast it live and then showing an obvious recording ( well it looked like it was recorded to me ) is taking the proverbial....GGGGGRRRRRRR!! apart from that gripe, they were great.
  3. barbara mercer - call on me precisions - instant heartbreak parliments - dont be sore at me al kent - the way you've been acting lately bob wilson - all turned on. juanita williams - you knew what you was getting juanita williams - baby boy how many times have we said how good a double header is barbara mercer?, just exquisite crossover!
  4. my teeth are grating bro, must be the sharpening of knives in the distance...
  5. spot on bri, the dells...an eternal cheapy and one of the classiest tunes.....EVER!!
  6. chic brilliant on friday, great atmosphere and nile rogers on the money. stones can only be the stones, nothin' more, nothin' less.....thought they might have done jumpin' jack flash but there you go, jagger absolutely energy driven..hope i've got that much enthusiasm in 14 years time! nice to see elvis costello as well. so to bobby...people's voices do go in time and it don't help if they've had any involvement with the darker side of life ( drugs, booze etc. ) he ain't no different from the vast majority, fact is he's still kickin' and a nod from the organizers that he still carries gravitas...if he get's it on, all well and good.
  7. WOW!,...THATS A GREAT TUNE!, it certainly don't conform...that instro break is totally unexpected in its structure...you need to follow some timely advice here and get it cleaned up, do a lot of research, find out who it is and get it heard by a wider audience...it may initially be a bit simplistic for some but there are plenty with an adept ear who'll nod in appreciation to this instantly.
  8. agree with that perspective steve, my point is...it really is the most important collectors market behind antiques...of course, nev's right as well, prices will fluctuate, BUT in collectors terms, they will always be worth more than what they were originally sold for at the counter and, as has been proven, once stocks diminish, the rise in value will reflect this fact...even if it's something that's getting played or not...everything has it's day and it's price.
  9. yes dave,...that would be something now, wouldn't it?....how's your mr. anderson buddy by the way?
  10. never mind portishead....you're supposed to be looking after the door!
  11. one of the best and cheapest dealers on here and on the scene, and a man i respect immensely is des parker, check out SOUL INC, des posts regularly, as does me old mucka pete smith...loadsa bargains!
  12. SPYDER TURNER - I CAN'T MAKE IT ANYMORE...all-time cheapie ( well bit more than a fiver ) and over here for prestatyn next march...one of the best terra shirma recordings ever?
  13. no lad, you mean...CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!
  14. you won't get a foal or an alpaca on here for a fiver
  15. eh? :g:get back on the door girlie!
  16. here, here len,...micheal mcintyre is a complete tosser making mega bucks...but who cares?....there are plenty of one liner merchants on here who could outsell him!
  17. the record collecting scene is a goldmine to youngsters......deja vu isn't it?...just like it was back in our day...it's all new and wonderous,...just a pity that those wonderful little junk shops and indie record shops we used to frequent are either extinct or in a minority.....liam, you'll want to check out record fairs as well, probably the next live alternative to whats awash on here.
  18. £250 seems steep ,compared to what it has sold for before, and that's taking into account it's a u.k. release only, but, as i said time's change and people come round to valuing things...our vinyl IS 2nd only to antiques for top dollar...because they literally ARE antiques...you have to smile even if you're exasperated....because it's suddenly commanding respect and it IS a great tune that SHOULD be played...it aint a boring tune

because we think we control the market chalky.
  21. the late, great dee dee, who lived in the shadow of her sister, but who's repetoire is every bit as good as the elder sibling's...right about the "cheapie section", connoiseurs stuff in there...."where is that rainbow" a much better reworking of the lp track, "when love slips away", yes there are other versions of that particular track, but her version is delivered with consumate ease, above all else...a fabulous vocal range and quite comfortably bracketed with the linda jones's of this world....for me personally,...the sublimnal "we've got everything going for us" just does it...and a b-side at that...it does help though, when you've got "the wiz" at the controls. so,....worth every tear i cry is worth every penny you've got no matter what you pay...quality is dee dee warwick's trademark.
  22. right on adam!,...if we broaden the topic, it's all too familiar isn't it?...we're in the "not good enough for the casino but just right for totw" zone...because times and taste's change and anything like say, george smith or bobby hutton....maybe got spun at station road by whoever because they though the records were great,...they bombed..then another dj comes along, 3 years later at stafford, played the same tunes but this time they're bang on the money....nobody was arguing then about who's taking the credit?...my just being hypothetical.....also time marches on, we get older and younger generations come along who have a feel for the tunes that we probably dismissed a bit to readily....there will always be someone though, who has a persistent chip on their shoulder about it. what's ever been wrong with the big picture?, the fact THAT after a large proportion of OUR generation's lifetime's....WE ARE STILL ON A LEARNING CURVE...THAT IS WHY THE SCENE IS SO INSPIRING AND STILL EVOLVING...THAT IS WHY THE SCENE WILL NEVER DIE, BUT WILL ALWAYS "LIVE LONG & PROSPER" ...go eulogize.
  23. sean, i know you'll rise above this hot air, top dj and you know me so when i say it, i mean it if you don't put up another playlist then it'll be a travesty because everyone pays attention to this thread...it's where people get the ideas from to buy records to compliment their own playboxes...who cares who played them first and where...too right
  24. well there you have it then,...case thrown out of court and well done to the like minded jurors for declaring a miscarriage...there's always some bloody highwayman trying to carry out an ambush, unfortunately well timed retribution is swift...WHY KNOCK ANYONE'S PLAYLIST?...people like to read these because by and large, it can determine weather they get in their car and give the venue and/or dj a try as well as comparing to what they're hearing elsewhere...I WISH...just like sales,...SOUNDCLIPS COULD BE POSTED THERE AS WELL,....BECAUSE youtube actually DOSN'T have everything...surely it wouldn't take too long to post up 20 ( an hours average ) tunes with clips...there's just so much, even after 40 odd years that even i've never come across.
  25. why is sean's set being knocked and why is my best uncle getting knocked as well??...what's with all this bloody oneupmanship?.....not everybody can be in burnley all at the same time and it aint a holy shrine for tunes...see totw or 100 club or the cats, torch, wigan, mecca or any of the legendary venue's...even your own rose room, frequented by messrs searling and taylor. ted's ties are as colourful as his tunes which, are second to none and if he bought strange without hearing it first, then he has fantastic intuition,...lets face facts, how many duff tunes have I&TT EVER made...they may not all be northern orientated but its still quality soul. sean is just one of the most bangin' djs on the scene...his passion & commitment is right on true blue giving it everything he's got...i can't believe after the recent hiatus on this thread that a guy like this, posts up his playlist WHICH, is something he dosn't usually do and gets dissed!!...ffs terry, stop taking the bloody moral highground, life's too short to keep winding up the key...LIGHTEN UP!!
