  1. I was led to believe Bobby James was the original release. I like it the best. Brand New Faces is rarity over quality in my personal opinion. Just a load of kids shouting over the backing track. Has to be very rare though.
  2. I was always late for work in the 70's. I could sleep through a hurricane. But the noise of the letterbox followed by a satisfying thud as a parcel of records hit the doormat had me up and there in seconds. Great thread and article.
  3. To me that is the fault of the promoter, who doesn't have a clue as to what his guests want to hear, and he shouldn't be promoting. I've heard so many stories like this, and have experianced it myself. I was once asked to do a spot at a do to raise money for a soul fan who had sadly passed away. He had been a regular at my nighter and loved the stuff we played there. Trouble is, most of the crowd at his memorial do were firmly in the oldies camp. My mate actually had to physically prevent punters from accosting me and shouting abuse. I would never do it again. It had cost me a lot of money to travel there, the sound system was terrible, and I would have been better off with a box of pressings.
  4. Just to let you know, Tim is trying to get his list and auction back to it's old regular monthly date. So until March. NEW AUCTION WILL APPEAR FIRST WEEK OF MARCH SAM FLETCHER NORRIS VINES THE PARLIAMENTS KENNY WELLS DICKIE WONDER THE CARLETTES THE RAMBLERS ARTHUR FREEMAN THE OTHER BROTHERS ALBERT WASHINGTON NICKY C & THE CHATEAUX DEAN COURTNEY
  5. No wonder I could never get through on the phone. I very rarely got my first choice of record, it was very frustrating in those days. I always wanted visit Soul Bowl in person, but it was a bloody long way and I never did make it. I had an arrangement with my boss at work so that I could use the telephone in my department until I got through, then however much time I had lost, I would work when everyone else had gone home. As well as Soul Bowl, Brian Phillips list was my favourite. Again I very rarely got my first choice off the list, and I'm not surprised after hearing that half the countries Dj's were perminently camped outside his house at the time.
  6. Palmer Demo was rarer until an amount turned up a few years ago. I would have the Palmer one given the choice, the sound quality is better.
  7. These sellers weren't that bothered when we were all sending parcels stuffed full of Dollars over to them with absolutely no guarantee we would ever get the record. I agree though that a few mindless buyers have ruined it for everyone. I very rarely bother even looking at ebay any more. And if I decide to bid on something, I contact the seller first to see if he/she will declare a low value. I find that the long established dealers will be fully aware of the situation and have no problem co-operating.
  8. The popcorn sound is very out of favour these days though Pete. Listening to it now it just sounds very dated and more like rock and roll than soul.
  9. What does it play like? I can't get it to play on my iPad.
  10. If you send the money for a record by any other means, you still aren't covered for being robbed are you? In fact paypal is the only way you can get your money back from a con man/woman. Most transactions on this site are between individuals rather than dealers. I have never had a problem either buying or selling on this site. All my problems have been on eBay with US sellers who insist on stateing the full selling price on the customs ticket.
  11. Can you supply a sound file Phil?
  12. I personally would never buy an acetate of a released record, you will never know the truth.
  13. I bloody love that instrumental Mark.
  14. Doesn't look cool anymore, just looks sad. Mainly because it looks too light. The darker the better now we are ancient. If you want to make a documentary that's fine, but you can't just turn up at an event and start filming people without obtaining permition from the promoter and more importantly the paying public.
  15. Please click on the link. Sales List 640
  16. Don't think it's necessarily lack of knowledge Andy. The boot looks like the original especially when spinning round in a dark room.
  17. Coming to a venue near you very shortly no doubt.

  19. I'm all for owning the original release, but I would always rather have a minty later number release than a battered original myself. I like to listen to them more than look at them. Before this number issue came to light everyone wanted the script logo label design.
  20. The strange world of Northern soul again. The Ivories makes nearly £1200 for a far from mint copy, yet the Tranells that used to be a three grand record only makes £1800.
  21. Didn't we do this to death a short while ago? Oh and stop embedding YouTube clips, it makes it impossible to read the thread for people on phones and tablets. If you must share your favourites just paste the link. P-L-E-A-S-E
  22. Ha ha! can't stand Inticers either Pete. Sorry can't get smileys since the site upgrade.
  23. I agree with some earlier posters, Soul Incorperated rarity over quality. If it was twenty quid no one would want it. Ghastly.
  24. Yes, two different label colours, both are original. Orange and gold.
  25. Have just had some unreleased tunes cut onto dub plates, and the firm I used has a service that will cut onto vinyl, and if you send them artwork, they will print the labels for you.
