Dj's And Discovering Records
Too many to list over the years, and some were "Discovered" at around the same time period but in different areas of the country, by different people. So it's never totally clear cut. Like Kegsy says, it was only by handing the records to big Dj's to play that brought them to the fore. Some people may have had the same record for years before it broke on the scene. Round these parts, Steven {Brad} Bradley was the man.

Al Wilson Help Me
I had one a few years ago, everybody wanted it, but no one would pay anything for it. I agree it seems pretty rare.

Empty Dancefloor - Dj Reactions
To quote a cliché that I hate, "it isn't rocket science" you mix it up a bit. Get them dancing, then slip in something less well known [just make sure it actually has a dance beat] if you lose them, get them back again. etc. etc. The problems arise when someone decides they are going to play an hour of unknown dirge with no dance beat.

John Manship Auction Results 25-2-2015
Just to throw a spanner in the works. Getting Dj spots has nothing to do with the quality of records a person owns, it's whether your face fits and how much you are prepared to tell everyone how good you are on social media. I know lot's of people who own fantastic records that never Dj, and I know many more who have bugger all to offer yet are lauded by their mates as being something special. There are a select few who are everywhere, like s**t in a field. They promote themselves endlessly on Facebook.

What Record Would You Use To Explain Or Exemplify Northern Soul
In my experience the one record that non soul people rave about above all others is.................. The Snake. Sorry but I wish I had a pound for every time someone has come up to me and said, "Hey, you're into that northern soul aren't you? I love that snake record"

Stupidly Priced - Billy Davis - Stanky Get Funky
Here we go again. There's loads of records like this that have gone up in price. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If it wasn't popular it would still be a £10 record. If you own a copy yet you don't like it, why the hell don't you sell it for £10?

Rarest Of The-Rare?
I was led to believe Bobby James was the original release. I like it the best. Brand New Faces is rarity over quality in my personal opinion. Just a load of kids shouting over the backing track. Has to be very rare though.

Where Are All The Bootlegs/reissues Coming From
To me that is the fault of the promoter, who doesn't have a clue as to what his guests want to hear, and he shouldn't be promoting. I've heard so many stories like this, and have experianced it myself. I was once asked to do a spot at a do to raise money for a soul fan who had sadly passed away. He had been a regular at my nighter and loved the stuff we played there. Trouble is, most of the crowd at his memorial do were firmly in the oldies camp. My mate actually had to physically prevent punters from accosting me and shouting abuse. I would never do it again. It had cost me a lot of money to travel there, the sound system was terrible, and I would have been better off with a box of pressings.

News: Soulbowl
No wonder I could never get through on the phone. I very rarely got my first choice of record, it was very frustrating in those days. I always wanted visit Soul Bowl in person, but it was a bloody long way and I never did make it. I had an arrangement with my boss at work so that I could use the telephone in my department until I got through, then however much time I had lost, I would work when everyone else had gone home. As well as Soul Bowl, Brian Phillips list was my favourite. Again I very rarely got my first choice off the list, and I'm not surprised after hearing that half the countries Dj's were perminently camped outside his house at the time.

Al Williams.....i Am Nothing
Palmer Demo was rarer until an amount turned up a few years ago. I would have the Palmer one given the choice, the sound quality is better.
