  1. Update from Universal rep re Marvin Gaye LP: This was a limited run but they have decided to “re-press” (due to some faulties) ….this will take around 5/6 weeks.
  2. Not at work at the moment but I thought it was due out in UK this Friday... My mistake. Released 29/03/19 but now OOS at Universal. I've asked the rep if they're expecting more stock and and will update on here accordingly.
  3. There’s a black run planned after the initial RSD release Rod
  4. 21st is RSD. You can buy from physical shops on that day (and thereafter while stocks last) but the RSD code of conduct prohibits shops from selling unsold copies online until 7 days later. If I have any copies left at that time I'll do a shout on here in case anyone needs one.
  5. Dunno what "as is" means but it has a repro of the TP label complete with handwritten comments.
  6. Beat you to it last night on the RSD thread Denise. Sorry!!!!
  7. Thanks for the kind words words folks- and to Mike for making this a feature. Our first four weeks have been amazing and we've encountered some really cool and interesting people. Come and say hello if you're in the area!
  8. Paul aka longtime member @Godzilla has passed on word all about a new real world record store that is now up and running up Scarborough way. Has passed on current store info along with hopes and dreams below sounds like a must drop in if/when round that way. Info from Paul... The shop sells a mix of approximately 70% new stock and 30% second hand, both vinyl and CD. We aim to stock interesting items across all genres, as the shop has to service the general public, but there are always a few rotating crates of original soul/funk/R&B 45s as well as 50s and 60s UK label singles and there are two decks with headphones to listen to them. We also stock CDs and vinyl from the likes of Kent, Ace, BGP, Outtasite and specialist reggae labels and we carry a good range of music memorabilia/gift items with the focus on 60s/mod related material. We never know what's coming in next in respect of used vinyl, and have already acquired a couple of soul and punk 45 collections. In 2018 a second sales floor will be open upstairs, where, in addition to more music to browse and another listening station, we'll be serving posh coffee and biscuits. Everyone who works in the shop is music mad - as are our customers - so although we need to sell records, hanging, meeting, chatting and chilling in the shop is very much encouraged! Physical opening hours are Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 - 17:00. We'll probably open additional hours in summer. Record Revivals, 6 Northway Scarborough YO11 1JL. Phone 01723 351983. Email info@recordrevivals.co.uk Facebook: Record Revivals The website is http://www.recordrevivals.co.uk - at present, it's a holding page but in the new year there will be a functioning website with cart system for online shopping.
  9. I guess there's a lot of competition these days with Facebook etc, but for me Soul Source has always been the yardstick by which Soul Music forums (and arguably music forums of any kind) are measured. Long may it remain so thanks to the often unsung hard work from Mike and the team. Many happy returns Soul Source.
  10. The EP containing See and Don't See isn't Canadian - it's a US promo for the LP. It comes in a sleeve that's a variation of the one used on the album.
  11. Which area are you playing at Glasto, Greg? Mrs G and I will there for the 20th time since '89 this year.
  12. Very sad news indeed. A truly brilliant musician and producer. I could listen to Loleatta Holloway's Runaway all day - especially the scintillating vibes work. RIP Vincent. https://youtu.be/E00A2M7q1MI
  13. RIP Donald Byrd: Jazz, soul and funk legend http://youtu.be/ZcrNPJ73-zc added by site news item http://www.guardian....-byrd-jazz-dies The influential jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd died on Monday at the age of 80, his nephew has said Alex Bugnon, a jazz pianist, reported his uncle's death on Thursday wikipedia full article can be found at http://en.wikipedia....iki/Donald_Byrd In the 1970s, Byrd moved away from the hard-bop jazz idiom and began to record jazz fusion and rhythm and blues. He teamed up with the Mizell Brothers (producer-writers Larry and Fonce) for Black Byrd (1973) which became the best-selling Blue Note album.[4] The title track climbed to No. 19 on Billboard"²s R&B chart and reached the Hot 100 pop chart, peaking at No. 88. The Mizell brothers' follow-up albums for Byrd, Street Lady, Places and Spaces and Stepping into Tomorrow, were also big sellers, and have subsequently provided a rich source of samples for acid jazz artists such as Us3. Most of the material for the albums was written by Larry Mizell. In 1973, he helped to establish and co-produce The Blackbyrds, a fusion group consisting of then-student musicians from Howard University. They scored several major hits including "Happy Music" (No. 3 R&B, No. 19 pop), "Walking In Rhythm" (No. 4 R&B, No. 6 pop) and "Rock Creek Park". During his tenure at North Carolina Central University during the 1980s, he formed a group which included students from the college called,Donald Byrd & the 125th St NYC Band. They recorded the 'Love Byrd' album, this being one of Donald Byrd's last highlights in his jazz funk phase which featured Isaac Hayes on drums. The album had a couple dance grooves, including the hit & garage classic "Love has come around". Recorded on Elektra records and released as a single in September 1981 it became a big disco hit in the UK and reached #41 in the chart.
  14. Deeply sad news. One of the best live performers I've ever seen and a lovely man too. Peace Terry.
  15. Much more than his most famous record and that in no way detracts from the significance of that particular recording. The band upstairs now have a producer. RIP Frank.
  16. Thanks very much for posting up the excerpts from the mag John. Fascinating historical reading.

  18. Me and Mrs G got our tickets for Manchester as soon as it was announced. I'm on the Band on the Wall mailing list and literally felt my heart start to race when I opened the email. One of my all time favourite venues too. Winner!
  19. Damn right Kris!
  20. Just posted that to my facebook page before checking here, Bob. RIP Jimmy.
  21. Bugger the dancefloor cheapies. Can we have that thread about records going up in value instead?
  22. A talented and versatile artist who brought us a 45 that is perhaps the epitome of Northern Soul. RIP Dobie Gray. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EA7A3Lq6xQ
  23. She made a mighty strong impression on a 14 year old boy! RIP Sylvia.
  24. Hey - 3rd place is pretty good going in my book. Mind you my run of good luck appears to have ended last night when I put my back out getting out of the bath
