  1. Hi I won an ebay auction recently for a nice record which the seller says he posted to me on 21/10/11. The seller has confirmed the address he says that he sent it to which is the correct house number, street, city but the post code is completely wrong (NX2 5D1 instead of NW2 5DL) Here's an extract copied and pasted from his last email to me:- I will not be held responceble for lost postage. All the records sent on the 21 have arived at the destinations, you have to email for recorded delivery, as the postage is £1.50, recorded is more than that, and you did not pay for recorded, Is he right about me being shafted if I didn't request recorded delivery? If he hasn't got proof of postage where do I stand? I haven't encountered this problem before and am a bit unsure what to do so would be grateful for advice on best approach to resolve it. ATB Mike
  2. Any chance of a consolation prize for earlier bump up? Seriously though, it does sound very good on the clip and hope its very successful. ATB Mike
  3. Hi On One I don't mind you mentioning it. Don't know much about this record. When you say a different cut, are you referring to the talking bit towards the end? When I first heard this on an MP3 on someones website, I think the fade out omitted the talking bit, but my copy includes it. I've also seen a copy where the label has got more detailed numbering etc on it. My copy was sold to me as VG+ I think, and is my only ebay purchase where I felt the description was wrong coz it's noisy on the quiet intro - pity. However, as you say it's a great record which has been commented on by a few others on here. The Vid is, of course, a classic. Wonder whether this was in his set list for the Torch gig? ATB Mike
  4. 123) pass 4) Newcastle. Just Don't Pay is a classy recording from the clip you posted earlier and I wish you every success with it. Mike
  5. Arnie That's a cool track - it's going straight onto my mp3 player.
  6. Oops - sorry double post.
  7. Not booted according to Manships Guide 5th Edition. According to the guide, the A side is We Can Make It. The Label is:- Tangerine 987 - guide price is £15. ATB Mike
  8. More Wikpedia info:- Billy Preston introduced The Stairsteps to The Beatles, and the group signed with George Harrison's Dark Horse label . That's me done - off to the 100 Club
  9. Got this off Wikpedia - Dunno about its accuracy The group's second album, Family Portrait (complete with a montage of Burke family photos), was recorded and produced in Chicago by Clarence Jr. With the addition of their three-year-old brother, the group became The Five Stairsteps & Cubie. The impressions did a version of We Must Be In Love which is another brill 5 Stairsteps tune. I also really like Don't Waste Your Time by them. Oh - Beat Me to it Boba
  10. Here it is on colour. https://youtu.be/sb_eVMpJUwo
  11. Exactly - there's also colour film of this gig! It's put me even more in the mood for the 100 Club tonight.
  12. How can you tell a drummer's at the door? The knocking speeds up. Seriously though, some excellent drumming in the above clips. The geezer in the 4th clip is replicating Jack Ashford's technique pretty good - had the pleasure of seeing Jack Ashford performing live and his tambo' playing is the nuts!
  13. For me it would be Earl Van Dyke, maybe Jack Ashford or perhaps any of the Funk Brothers. Brilliant musicians who were instrumental in producing most of my favourite soul music. ATB Mike
  14. Hi Godz Assume your going to the 100 Club. The Blue Posts PH is the pre 100 club watering hole which is at the corner of Eastcastle Street/ Newman Street. I like the Dog & Duck in Frith Street which serves good real Ales. For used soul vinyl, there are a couple of shops on Hanway Street which is at the Tottenham Court Road end of Oxford Street. Otherwise, Exotica or Rough Trade on Portobello Road and there is also a great Market there too. I would recommend The Golden Hind Fish & Chip Restaurant in Marylebone Lane, W1. It's unpretentious, inexpensive and you can also take your own bottle of wine or beer in there too. You may need to book Whatever you do, hope you have a great time. ATB Mike
  15. Also really like " What Have I Done To Make You Mad "
  16. Good choice and a quite brilliant debut album - usually have either 1,2,3 or 4 in the car for long journeys!
  17. I like this which I keep meaning to buy sometime- a co write with her partner.
  18. Nice tune & video - was aware of the Geraldine Hunt version, but this sounds nicer. Wonder what those support gigs with the Beatles were like?
  19. One Dove - Breakdown 12" found in a charity shop on Saturday for £1. Why? Andy Weatherall produced it so thought it would be good for lifting samples off it.
  20. Just won this on ebay - as I expected, did have to pay alot more than you did (£29.00 ) , but it's a UK demo in excellent condition apparently!
  21. Hi Dave Think I've got this sorted for you. In the absence of hearing from the feller at sax.co today, I spoke to Roz at Trevor James ( Tel 01622 859590 ) She's lovely and helpful and basically they have what you want in stock - she refers to the items as "mother of pearl touch pieces " and a set is 6 round 1 small 2 oval. However, don't ask me or her why, but they apparently only supply to retailers. Suggested retailers in London are Howarths (0207 935 2407) who are in Chiltern Street just off Baker Street, W1 or Chaz Foots (0207 437 1811) not sure of spelling but I know their shop in Golden Square which is near Piccadilly Circus. I know both these shops and believe they are both very reliable. Essentially what you need to do is ask either of these retailers to place an order for you with Trevor James and she says that the maximum retail price will be £8.00 inc vat. They can send the items to you direct if the retailer gives them an email confirming where to dispatch to and they will send the sales invoice to the retailer. Otherwise, I work in Oxford Circus and it would be no trouble for me to drop into either shop and pick them up for you and post them if you would like. Hope this is the solution but do let me know if I can help any further. ATB Mike
  22. Lee Rogers - How Are You Fixed For Love is on my Youtube channel - just click on the link below and you'll find it. Storming old skool northern and worth a listen if you aint heard it before.
  23. Hi Dave I popped into my mates shop at lunchtime but he has unfortunately lost touch with his sax tech so he wasn't much help I am afraid. As I was passing the Sax.co.uk anyway, I popped in and their tech, Mark, a really helpful guy, kindly offered to ring Trevor James and try and get a price for a set of the "key touches" . I'll let you know what he says. ATB Mike
  24. It's a pleasure to help. I will speak to my mate but having just got in from work, I checked an old address book and have still got the details of the repairer who was recommended to me when I spoke about repairs to the guy who sold me my horn. Funny thing is I bought it off him in 1979 when I used to live in Norwich and years later ended up moving into the next street in Willesden Green! Anyway, the repairer's name is:- Martin Block 12 Elm Park Stanmore 0208 954 4347 These details were given to me a while ago now but I've checked on the internet, and he is still advertising! Could be worth giving him a call. I'll get back to you. Mike
