  1. The singers voices are from another tone and timber to my ears. Only the "Jive" almost talking way of singing of the lead singer is reminiscent there. Both Dolly & the Fashions 45's are LA . One is a James Carmichael and the other is a Smith, Relf and Nelson projects. While the Tears is a Chicago/Detroit product with Burgess Gardener and Andre Williams stamps all over it. But this can't be proof of anything at the same time. Still in the meantime, until we either have proof or amendments, I'll remain on the skeptical sides of the story.
  2. Mhm although I am not a fan of colored vinyls (and/or styrene. Yes there are some colored out there but not 'see through' then), being more of a trad collector bloke choosing where I prefer my stockers and promos issues with more vigor (as I like to believe) regardless of rarity but more for my eyes pleasure, I always am amazed by them. Yes, I love my vinyl black... why don't you think about it... Say it loud ! (LOL) Those colored pressings are much harder to visualize in scrutiny. Black is indeed only a colorant added for better visualisation of the groove. Then there are those seemingly black but that are not when held behind a light source. Like some copies of Robert Portee 'Casanova' on Diamond or the Icemen on Ole-9... Still the Commands 'don't be afraid' looks amazing in yellow vinyl. The picture cover is priceless IMO. Their previous number 'hey it's love' c/w 'no time for you' had a red vinyl release as well for the promo as far as I remember. Fitted with a picture cover to die for as well. And those picture covers came with the stockers and promos alike. The Tonettes 'I gotta know' still on Dynamic (no picture sleep though (sic !)) had a red promo vinyl I remember seing. And I remember once seing pin on a collector's wall a copy of the Trips 'bring it back' c/w 'her comes those heartaches' on Victoria on a violet/mauve vinyl next to Dave Coleman 'down in the basement' on a pale blue/whitish styrene...
  3. Tune ! 'a lover's plea' is more 'harmony vocals group' (than sweet soul) for which there was a "revival" in the mid-late sixties in the USA. Agree it's a fantastic side that I do play home from time to time.
  4. Well, it might have been common to some but not to me really. Got my first as a clean (w/drill hole) stocker and sold it on when I got me a super clean demo. That was some 15 years ago or so and I sold it for like £25 then ! By today such a copy could sell easy for £50-60 to remain on the fair side of "business". A demo easily double to triple that. Speculating still on the fair side of things. On the nutter side of things; all is possible...
  5. Unlike it's an old OOTP with a Modern promo printed stuck on label I am not aware of any bootlegs of this... Is there ?
  6. Novalene Publishing appears on few Pat & Lolly Vegas 45's. Likely it could be linked to the Vasquez brothers. Catfish publishing I could not track down yet. Could be a lead... or not.
  7. No harm done to do some detective work and asking the community on here (whom I believe to be capable to do so as they seem receptive) if they can participate... And did. So no 'theories' on here yet but the one taken from the JM auction that started the quest. There's a connection, which I have forgotten about and happy to have been reminded of, but what is it made of exactly and who is Danny Monday is most legit questioning IMO.
  8. Res$urrection or Revolution ?
  9. Iconic (hence the topic of a sole mystery man/singer record of cataclysmic proportion) sound that still give me the thrills when played loud from a real copy on a good sound system. My earbuds tell the difference and no matter how "subtle" or "marginal" the difference one might find/think of it, it makes all the difference to me. Quality rule, OK ? Any stories or artefact about and around the making of this double sider recording session is of prime interest to me. Can't say I've ever been in deep reading back sleeve notes of LP's, biographies or other tell tale stories as such on music, but for some records that I particularly love I love to see (photos) and read (learn) about them.
  10. I ban Goo-gle-muck to privilege more ethical search 'engines' but have landed on Wiki and more interesting on YT with and about Pat. In there discovered what is likely the most Northern Soul recording by the duo out of their LP; 'let's get it on' as continuous playback theme... it's catchy must admit. On who's who Danny Monday there's not much revealing 😕
  11. Any link to that ?
  12. Sounds like a refrained or mumming Major Lance... In Philly ?!
  13. Yes; different pressing plants.
  14. Lou Johnson (RIP) lesser known and harder to find 45 on a even rarer white promo copy doing a rather unique rendition of Dionne Warwick's classic tune. These were all press on Styrene and do sound a bit crackly even when Mint. This copy is Ex- by strict grading and the scan show some "shades" on the label that is much less visible in the flesh. lou johnson walk on by.mp3 Scans and soundclip from actual record for sale. £40 FREE SHIPPING ALL OVER THE WORLD. ADD £6 TO HAVE IT REGISTERED. Grading through M - EX - VG - G... PM me to inquire
  15. Who specifically do you ask ? Am still open for trade for a copy of Al Williams on La Beat... But clean LOL !
  16. 1969 Texas Soul Winner with the real gem on the 'B' side IMO. The 'A' side has seen some DJ action few years ago but as far as I am aware the 'B' side not yet. Although it has some "warmer" or "ender" potential and is a true classy connoisseur on it's own. Strong Ex to Ex- condition visual and play. les watson.mp3 Scans and soundclip of both sides from actual record for sale. £40 FREE SHIPPING ALL OVER THE WORLD. ADD £6 TO HAVE IT REGISTERED. Grading through M - EX - VG - G...les watson.mp3 PM me to inquire
  17. Artist of the week with the Temptations... too easy... boring as it is so evident... well not quite actually... so many great materials to pick one or two from... too much materials overheard/play... through the decades... admitting they where that good ! In my former "northern" days my vote was instantly 'saving my love for a rainy day' putting back the Van Dykes version where it should have remain; in hommage obscurity. Early Gordy sessions with 'slow down heart', 'I want a love I can see'... And 'my girl' is actually fantastic. Got me the iconic USA pic sleeves and heard it allover again. Bass line... Drool ! Old farth we are should have the capability to listen with "new born" ears in order to hear it again for the second first time again ! That is something I've come to do once again and it is rather fulfilling. And today, with my random 45 selection next to my deck, this 'B' side gets a play at every night session... I am hooked. And please do play the 45 as the LP mastering is "soften" to waist.
  18. Moons ago, I got my first 45 press of this wonderful record on USA Sue. It was a white promo release as shown on here below. Having set my mind to collect my Sue records as stockers with the white graphic (either vinyl or styrene), it was soon replaced with a vinyl stock copy. Last copy I bought to offer for sale is this last variation of the stocker shown on here. Played it to friends and heard it sounds different to mine. It sounds like it could be a STEREO mix of some sort. My phono is only MONO !!! Having heard through the decades a lot of mixes variations with some Sue 45's depending on their pressing plant, I am now curious as to what is the "story" between those. The promo has a matrix that says 'SR-1087' but I don't recall it being different. Or is it ? The stocker I have now shows 'ST-1084' and it's the most common mix that made the 'HIT' version as issued in other countries. Then this last vinyl copy on a paler orange label with smaller letterings for her name and 'SR-1084-X'. Anyone ?
  19. Farewell Sire McCall + Never tired to hear his Checker 45 double sider of utter excellence with the dramatic ballad screamer 'S.0.S.' on the 'A' side and his raw pounding 'I'm in danger' on the flip. Both 1967 Chicago guts grabbers.
  20. For a friend am seeking to purchase second hand but still in "clean" condition and shipped from Europe either 'The Old Barrio Guide to Low Rider Music' by Ruben Molina (if and IF it is also filled with good pictures) and/or the 'LOWRIDER: HISTORY, PRIDE, CULTURE' By Paige Penland. PM me if ever. Tim
  21. I was about to say that it could have suffered the "sample" phase and I stumbled on this... Now wait for the Wu-Tang to sample that and I will be willing to swap my copy for a clean Al Williams on La Beat...
  22. Yeah, well nasty senile people do have "rights" also. Even with the "services" of crook lawyers... Better Call Saul... Discogs must have had unpleasant adventures the last few years when they started to "delete" many entrees of which plenty where indeed "illegal" releases. That without explanation. Likely, with the Majors Glutton Record Companies exercising their politically correct (that of which I claim not to be nor belonging to) rights in copyright ownership on intellectual and artistry matters, Discogs must have had their tree shaken. Hence where their lack of balls might come from.
  23. Yop, thanks for that.
  24. I'd believe it to be more towards from 1963 onward even though 'bigboppa''s site says otherwise.
  25. I love & have them both 😛
