  2. red/gold SPQR issue label is a later issue even though they both share the same catalogue number but the later one DOES NOT have 'just ask me' on flip like the gold issue:
  3. Sounds dreadful as a Mango Jones 'ska la bomba' kinda thing and I find the wandering trumpet really annoying. But off course I never liked Marv Johnson 'come on and stop' in the first place so...
  4. See you when I get there and hear you in the meantime Mr. Wright !
  5. original is styrene and bootleg is vinyl. real one here below and bootleg here below
  6. Long story short; if it is not for the money, what is it for ? Pleasure ? Share that ! Just that ! Them record we love are rare and sometimes not hopefully. I'm not personally pointing you down man, but look and see all around, when you re-issue something (which I never did), you do try to dig out above the most that I should believe. Or... The excitement is always about music. Why not making a great LP compilation about Nelson Sanders and Co. if it was about ? Ever heard of anyone complaining about those with rarities issued on 'em ? Real 45's are what they are, others... vinyl is OK BTW !
  7. IMO it's not so much about paying big dosh then feeling upset when it's readily available at a fraction of the price when boxes of NOS are found for example. That is just how it goes as it did always. sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. No, it's about how I get my music on that I can praise it home and out ! I always loved the fact that it was with tenacity, curiosity and through time that you still would and could discover new sounds and sharpen your taste after venturing through stax of records in warehouses, collections and stores... listening to tapes and going to clubs . Now to see ALL those TOO MANIES & ALL OVER THE PLACES rare and not so rare 45 getting reissued because someone paid royalties to do so, to "satisfy" a market just KILLS the spirit for me. Sometimes LESS is MORE ! This royalty argument is legitimate in the way that an artist could still get financial recognition for his past work (of artistry sometimes) but it doesn't mean that I want to support the business of the royalties "borrowers". Buying royalties and selling them is a business on it's own. Since it's business, expect some praise as some criticism at the same time. There's good business and bad business and we all are going to agree and disagree on some or most bits. I always loved the old Kent compilations for example. I barely never paid money to get my records. I struggled, traded and sold some to be able to afford mines. It's not about money for me. I hate to think that my beloved record collection is an "investment". Even though in the long run I wonder which costed me more; the pub or the 45's ? That bit of "it's not easy to get the stuff" is part of that "rare soul" scene like it is for all those other music based "underground" scenes. Everybody has a chance to hear anything or about with a computer ! If they want to play it the same. Some DJ's do play mp3 and they are the same to me when it comes to re-issues. It doesn't look good nor sounds good IMHO. And about creativity for a home spot or a nighter, sorry but it's not working for me. OK, I never liked those 45 bootlegs and reissues, even before being into the soul vine, when I was into 6T's-7T's Jamaican music, so maybe I'm partial here. But I'm sure that I'm not the only one that feels that way. Just check eVil Bay and see how many of those things are out about... Then imagine how many shops and private dealers on record fairs carry them... That is an "overground" scene if it is at all.
  8. I know $1500 ! But I guess it's more for the flip (real "A") side that sounds like an even earlier R'n'B thing (that didn't sound good to my ears) where the duo with Miki Stokes is more relevant to the singers credit. Maybe it's the only way to get that 'my troubles are over' tune that apparently stayed in the can until this 7t's release. Otherwise why would one pay such money for a playable but still G condition 2nd (so-so maybe legit...) issue for 'get yourself together' ? But still, I'm curious on facts as to how that re-release of 'get yourself together' came to see the light and why the "credits war" ?
  9. Try mixcloud.com for some creative podcast made by some collectors and deejays alike. You can either just chose to listen to them when online or download them. Why bother with Apple or any other major brand when it comes to soul music ?
  10. I always loved Kenny Carter 'I've got to get myself together' and had to have Spider Turner's as soon as I knew he re-cut it with Kenny's consent. But now there's this release that I've never seen before that was definitely done with the masters since you can hear it has been remixed; the vocals and flute are forwarded & the drums/beat are attenuated to an overall smoother effect. This release looks like a 7t's release and bares the credit of Miki Stokes as co-singer who should be a relative to Charles Stokes (Cha-Tok Publishing is also the label which release (DeWight) Spider's 'you're alone' early number !) who credit that it's his production !? But the earlier Good Time release says different; the Kenny Carter credit for the composition even disappear on the Sounds of Soul release while Nate Edmonds remains ! Anyone knows what the story is ?
  11. The title credit 'Good bye cruel WORLD' was issued only on the firsts promo pressings with the bold Motown design. Then quickly corrected. So I guess like you that it's the printer's mistake/lapsus since the map Motown design didn't suffer that faith as none of the commercial releases. But indeed what a morbid tune that would have been LOL.
  12. But they're always blue ! Promos and stockers, only lighter and darker !
  13. NO DEMO indeed for this one.
  14. And this is an American release. Unless...

  16. Styrene from Canada ? Are you sure since I don't recall ever seing one and I've been to Canada digging over thousands and thousands of Canadian records. Plus I've never heard of a styrene pressing plant there ! OK but this one Jamaican is vinyl !
  17. My guess is that is that; since the Constellation 45's were pressed in different pressing plants, some of them still had spares of the old label. They used them while other plants were already using the new designed label. Same story for many "popular" labels. Then you have some "second" round of issue to meet public demand were they were using the contemporary design label. So it's kinda complicate to understand if all were pressed at the same time in the 3 or 4 pressing plants they then were using. Some definitely were never pressed in such or such pressing plants as far as I know. Like the Monarch styrene (circular star design) issues were very few numbers as far as I know (I only have 160 & 167). But the are stunning with crisp label and sound quality ! Imagine finding a Nolan Chance 'just like the weather' on a monarch pressing...

  19. Jamaican styrene ? Never seen such a thing !

Ideally find someone with at least one that is legit for sure and then compare with your matrix. The thing is when looking on Popsike all the yellow promo copies were from sellers based in the UK. Spot I kinda thought well that is suspicious since none were sold from the USA... Now John Manship has a Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fip5fW4NCk) clip with good picture of said yellow DJ copy that indeed looks more real than anything. So I guess we might have to be more careful with such categorical assumption. There were real yellow promos maybe and bootlegs then or...

OK, you're right about that. I never care for the said record so I never tried to figure anything about it. And since some late sixties Smash releases had yellow promos variation, I thought that this one was also one of them... but after some quick search on the net it reveals itself a bootleg ! You're right then. I've learned something this morning. Thanks for that.

No way ! I'd say £25-£50 depending on the collector after it (pink promo, yellow promo and white promo) and how too rich he is...
