  1. just watched some of this, it aint half bad.... but what the hell is Phil Jupitus wearing btw? if I'd have done it I'd have gone to a decent nighter and interviewed people there, and outside the venue, then cut the relevant 'History' in.. make sure the presenter is seen having a drink, and in the receipt of some nice records, then at least well know he made an effort...
  2. I think the inclusion of Phill Jupitus says it all, that said I haven't yet seen it, and I have to say I can listen to Robert Elms any time of the day.. I think the thing with these shows is the format they insist on sticking to, ok its its an archive heavy factual programme made from a diminishing pool of original content, which can only generally be illustrated with a splattering of talking heads, but if you want to see how well a programme of this genre can be made, look no further that Flame TV's ' Pump up the Volume' commissioned by channel four back in 2001/2, without doubt the best series on a scene I've seen. I think something along the lines of actually following some people to a nighter, with the history running parallel says allot more the viewer, there are tons of ways you can tell the story make it allot more engaging. You can pretty much guarantee they didn't bother thinking about that, and stuck to the same old..
  3. I listen to the Richard Searling interview with Frank all the time, and in a way its kind of lead me to know him, obviously I don't and have never met him, but I'm really shocked by this news. Indeed an absolute legend in the history of Pop Music, all my condolences to his family and friends. Malcolm
  4. I licensed allot of News Int content into this, Headlines, pages from the stable of newspapers that kind of thing. Looks to be a really good doco, there was allot of praise for the director Kevin Macdonald.
  5. Hope you don't mind me saying Ady, allot of folk would feel we didn't get the full package if we did not hear 'Trying to Love Two'. And deffo worth suggesting 'I Forgot to be your Lover' as an ultimate William Bell ballad.. I've Learned to play this on my guitar, but I cant sing for toffee..make my day to see William sing that live.. Mal.C.
  6. I agreed, absolutely superb, Love the image of the recording of 'The way you've been acting lately'.. Ive never actually seen a picture of Ed Wingate, I assume its him, as its captioned Wingate.. he look very formidable...

  9. This is really sad news. That image of Kell on the beach will live on though, was a classic 45 and picture cover.. I've not read the linked interviews but did Kell ever mention which of his songs was his favorite? Mal.C.

  12. I don't know Ian Lavine at all, but the only time he bought some records from me at the Manchester Ritz, he insisted on paying in £50 quid notes, I asked him if he had smaller notes as folk don't like them, he said 'Look, I'm Ian Lavine, of course these are real...' so I spent next half an hour trying to persuade the barman to change them who had all manner of ultra violet lighting out.. The man's nothing but entertaining...... Mal.C

Blimey, he wrote and produced timeless music, especially liked the Garnet Mimm's tracks that he did.. and of course Lorraine Ellison... there is a great story in the Kent CD on him about Jimmy Hendrix partying in his recording studio... a great loss.. Mal.C.
