!960's UK Mod / Soul Clubs
This is really worth watching, great footage, Soho, and the 2 'i's' coffee bar which has been mentioned a load of times on here... it's about Brigitte Bond.

Terri Goodnight on Manships
Surprised to find so much is known about the label, makes sense really, it is a Vanity Press, and outside of Jean's writing duties, Cyril Roberts was their go to man. I guess he would likely set the session up, so he was a 'fixer' as well.

Jerry Butler RIP
This is awful news, as Valentina says above; A true GIANT of Soul music! Rest in Peace Jerry Butler.

Terri Goodnight on Manships
I wonder if we might add Tammy Wayne into the list of perhaps miss cast singers with the wrong song? She has/had a strong voice, but that song always sounded out of key to me, maybe this is another case, as Robb has mentioned, a classically trained singer recording a pop song, with a standard TV American accent. There are allot of cases where a writer puts a 45 out, think of Rockie Brown on Penntown, she wrote a few other tracks, I think her real name was Pat Caldwell. What do we know about the writers and producer on Terri goodnight? I wonder, have they got form else where in R&B and Soul?

Terri Goodnight on Manships
Reminds me of the early 9ts, when I had it on a tape, I was hooked into that walkman! love it for that, and of course its dog rare and all that, but lets face it, she isnt Mary Wells...

Ron Murphy interview
Blimey that did my brain, very nearly an Oxymoron Robb...! lol Could B. Thomas, be Bob? and if so, who was B. Thomas? if one singer, maybe one of these credits is simply a joint writer... I know thats obvious given two singers / writers mentioned on the label.

Ron Murphy interview
Great interview/s Graham, really enjoyed it. So much in there, but how the sound was achieved on Bob And Fred was really interesting, listening to it back now you know immediately those strings were dubbed over later, and it’s great to learn how they got the basic tracks bass sound. 20 rca type mics hung from a ceiling of a theatre in front of the band playing the track live. I have never really liked George Lemon's on Gold Soul, I’ve warmed to it, but the vocal although has a quality is not good, I never knew they operated the way they did, really interesting stuff. Great interview, Can I ask is this all you have on Ron, or do you have enough for a part 2?

What’s The Longest Want You’ve Had To Finally Getting One !
What a record, had both versions, and I've come down on the side of Leroy Barbour, but not easy or cheap record to get these days... label does look cool as well... Had loads of long time Aussie wants recently, a real glut of gooduns, Tony Drake on Aussie MCA, alluded me for years, when I did see one, I didn’t have the dosh, but eventually I got one for 150 quid, sold my yank issue for allot more, so made on that!! Garland Green - Angel Baby on MCA, 20 years to get that one. seen another since! The Charts on Sceptre, The Monclairs - Wait For Me on Green/white Atlantic, Joe Stampley And The Uniques - Not Too Long Ago on Festival, Bobby Patterson - I'm in Love With You Yellow/Blk Festival, now I got all his on festival! its been really good on this stuff...
-
Somebody sell me a really good 20 quid record.
Ok, bit different, but request for Somebody to sell me a really really brilliant 20 quid record. Sixties / seventies, doesn’t matter. A record you think, that’s so good, but only still worth 20 quid. pm me pls, not on this thread, and don’t try to edge the price up, I won’t answer if I see that. Come on tell me what you got? malc

RSD 2025 UK - Official List Out - 12 Apr 2025
Ok, had a look, so this is what I think, Joe Smooth - Promised land, a classic, and always worthy...! that said you can pick up the original DJ Int 12, quite cheap, maybe that’s not the point, or maybe I'm not the target audience? The largely forgotten Royal House - Can You Party, well, you can say what the fook you like, but it rocked then, and it rocks now...! inst is better without the samples... There is a Lp by Pete Shelley on there, don’t know whether this is on the RS LP, but his 'Witness the Change', think it was the inst version, was a MASIVE spin in 88/89, very original track from 81 which was then sampled a thousand times! YT link below... it was a moment when you heard that for the first time. 13th Floor Elevators, always a great psych garage choice, they were signed to SONO records, brilliant label, well done Charley records 🙂 some nice Sun Ra releases, like Sun Ra, and I'm a sucker for anything by Pharoah Sanders, You know what? they should release a twelve inch with versions of 'The Creator Has A Master Plan' the other by Louis Armstrong & Leon Thomas... that would be nice on a twelve inch.. lots of live jazz stuff, some of which is good but on the whole for a vinyl record release, bit naff. Always liked the idea of 'The Fall' I just don’t like their music...Smith's a shit...! I think he even said that about himself..... however, I'm gonna get my wife Liza the Alison Moyet Lp... like a bit of Alison Moyet.... Cissy Houston has a nice double Lp, as has Sam & Dave, with the Nashville Sessions, and finishing with 'Tainted Love', God almighty! how many times can you squeeze an orange before it becomes a lime...! Overall, ok, but bit more like Record Bore Day, what do you think?
