Yeah that and Nat T Jones another one that was botlegged before it took off. Strangled at birth. Perhaps some of the DJ's WERE the bootleggers Sean Oliver in Northern rooms - whatever next? Whenever I used to play that, it was off of the CD, but again it was a legitimate new release - don't think anyone's talking about true modun here though - more 60s-mid 70s 45s stuff. Anyway I am not going to get drawn in - honest
  2. Wow! Yeah a lot of stuff ended in in M/c. Went to the record fairs there religiously in the early 90s - got some great stuff myself....Steve

Well they don't have to go out at all - just put some beers in the fridge and put a CD on, and dance on their carpet to all the favourite oldies Yeah no need for the oldies only fans to ever leave home again.....
  4. What years was it on? Trying to bget a perspective on time. Cheap 45s, Richard guesting at easter etc. are we talking the 70s?
  5. Yes they were superb labels weren't they.....still amazed how many "steppers" don't know Jocelyn Brown on Posse.....before her voice 'broke'...Steve
  6. Hmmm haven't heard this for years despite having my own copy . Quite a hard to find LP which I think is under-rated.
  7. No. Why would any self respecting DJ need to play boots? If you canne' stand the heat, get out the kitchen.
  8. Yes it was played. Quite big too.....
  9. Surprised no one has mentioned "Casanova" yet by Coffee

Is it Gasher again putting the decimal point in the wrong place?
  13. Hi Steve as he is local to you, do you know him? Sounds a very odd story. Steve
  14. Yes Bob cracking northern.

Yeah but we've rolled the debate on from 'chavs' v 'snobs' now.....
  16. A well known dealer friend of mine went to a scooter rally with a stack of original records, sold two all weekend (and I think one of those was 'sent back' for a refund on the following Monday).

Yes very cool, I remember thinking that when I first saw the interview. We should also remember that for every ten decent guys/gals who made a record there are a few 'nasties' out there in soulville. Hustlers who want x$ for having a photo taken with them, who are just on the milk and honey treadmill. Think some soul fans are incredible naive and wear the rose tinted glasses when it comes to the 'ins and outs' of the music biz. It certainly wasn't the case that all singers are poor and were ripped off, far from it. Many were paid for the session, and forsake any future rights to royalties etc. Here's $50 for two hours and four tracks, thanks and goodbye. One of the great things about the scene though is finding a genuine guy - like the late Cal Thomas of the TSU Toronadoes. Genuinly appreciated that people liked his groups music, but wasn't phased about it, didn't want paying for an interview, happy to donate a copy of one of his records "Please heart don't break" for a competition - a cool guy.
  18. Had a pop at this on ebay yesterday, but didn't win it. Anyone else know it? Blue eyed but rhythmically good.....
  19. Great record though, just goes to show....
  20. Hmmmm. you letting that Patrinel Staten go Fingers? Hopefully someone will take that late 90s remake of The Salvadors off of you too In all seriousness hope everything is ok / gets sorted soon. cheers, Steve
  21. Hey I missed it - was down in Somerset (Crayford is in Kent by the way Ian)....and knowing some of the obscurities Simon has stashed away, I bet i missed a blindingly good show.

Both horrible 45s....you trying to complete the label or something?
  23. Agreed Francis, that TNJ's is great. Found my copy in LA years ago, always rated it very highly. But they are a top group anyway - no duffers at all in their repertoire.
  24. Really good thread this.......can't add any, but am enjoying the crack.
  25. Yup agreed as long as the remix is good. I got a Jean Shy German techno mix somewhere and it's awful, and there are also some very strange mixes of "The Source" for example (one straight off the top of me head).....I'd also add remakes to the list also, such as the recent version of You know how to love me which is very good in my humble. To say "you can't beat the original" is missing the point.
