  1. Remember one night where there were about 50 of them and they came after a load of us off the Crewe train. All long haired hippies and scummy pizzEds. Some of us agreed we'd had enough of this and to stay put and see them off - but when we looked round suddenly there were only four of us left , so hiddeously outnumbered we had to dive into this shop with a long entrance way,. Anyway they all went past up the hill chasing these soulies, and when they went back past down again we came out and carried on walking...... Yes and if you locate their website they will tell you that the origins of "Soul Crew" lie in the roots of NS late 60's and early 70s - obviously a thriving "soul" scene then back in Cardiff.

    More than that....keep going....

Perhaps they could each play a side?

    It is the B side.
  5. Great record - sad loss.
  6. They need to have their ears syringed - great blue eyed soul beat ballad!
  7. Is that why you never book me for the "Ah Well" then?
  8. Hmmm remind me not to buy any vinyl off him then (Hi Pottsy!) Don't really want the grooves worn out on an expensive record
  9. A lot of acetates are two sided, especially with indie releases where the group manager would get a few cut and tout them round labels etc....also remember a story about Tom Moulton saying that he didn't want to get rid of one sided acetates because the other side could still be used.

Total disco garbagio - wouldn't give you 2p for either format. Instead we should name and shame any DJs who spin this "tripe". That good enough for ya?
  11. Yeah the bits I saw were pretty good too - though I was competing for telly space with the missus who wanted to watch some "Sell up and f**k off and die in the country" type programme. Tonight she is out so I'll be able to see more.
  12. Sounds a complete toss pot - leaving negative feedback may help warn others - I doubt this leopard will change his spots.
  13. Thank you for your assistance, I will indeed "trade up" to the 680 I think. At the end of the day it's got to be worth investing in the stylus!
  14. Stanton make several variants of the 500 II and I was wondering whether any Hi Fi junkies could opine on which version of the 500 II stylus is best for spinning those easy-wear styrene pressings What I mean by best is which version of the Stanton 500 does LEAST damage to the vinyl?

DJing with Russ W? - that's not just scary - that would be my worst nightmare

The white boots have been around for a few years, I thought only a few had been drip fed out....there was a strong rumour at the time someone pressed 100 of them up and let a handful out passing them off as originals (and of course making a lot of money) - memory's not as good as it was, but I think that's the jist of it. That shop in Ann Arbor btw is where I got Pages and Garland Green UNI LP for next to nowt a few years ago when I was breezing through.

Good luck Craig - you'll love it!!! Radio Djing is great fun, and you'll want to do a whole show next.
  18. Think Clarky's Record Player went for just over £400 Emmanual Taylor 300-350? Target one on JM auction went for the best part of 500. You know I am cr*p on prices, but believe the above to be correct.
  19. Ramsey & Co is undergoing something of a revival at the moment

My missus buys a lot of collectibles off of ebay and has noted an increasing trend of whenever something doesn't make the price the seller had hoped for, the postage is excessive (to try and close the gap). She always queries it and quite often the sellers reduce. Seems she has as many exchanges about P&P as anything else.
  21. Hey - you know I'll always face a challenge Actually it was good fun Maria, and he was very well behaved, apart from his stonking cold - which after repeated spluttering and sneezing all over the place invariably passed on to me  ...He has also discovered "Calimari" (covered up in breadcrumbs), Monkfish and Tapas, and it sounds like he has now got the continental travelling bug! See y'all tomorow.
  22. Big at Peterborough Fleet early 80s as well.
  23. Agree with a lot of what's being said on this thread. Especially about more deals being done away from the limelight at venues, in rooms, at house visits and via telephone / internet etc. I think that's absolutely fine too. Also agree with soulster's comments - the "trophy" records always bring everyone out. But a lot of stuff which I know is good and which I see in boxes at venues just doesn't seem to move that quickly! A case of more people after fewer records?
  24. The Robert Moore is one of my all time favourite funk sides
  25. Got my Carol Woods in High Brooms junk shop for 10p in 1980! In with a load of UK pop - totally bizarre, and at the time I only got it because I knew she had done some northern tailor mades with Levine. Result!!!
