  1. Nice 45s. Tony Moore - an old Plinstone sound (Letchworth), tried it a few times there, but it's a bit off-key and never took off at the time….
  2. Hi Paul I think we included the Carl Sims because it had been a biggie at Soul Essence….but I do accept maybe not many on here went there.
  3. Always nice to hear a bit of non Bacharach - David, from Dionne's Scepter period.
  4. Agreed Nev…..another nice cheapie.
  5. Sorry Chalks, the irony was obviously lost on you……was joking……
  6. Yep no so keen on Howeefeel, but it's not shabby at all so lets put it in Sean's 2014 playbox - 3 down 97 to go. What about the new Lisa Stansfield?
  7. At long last - a feckin good record that isn't played out much, or "known and not good enough"! And a great group that later went onto become Philadelphia Story. There ya go Sean that's one for you to get......99 to go. Steve
  8. Hi Cunnie, if you see anyone playing this abomination of a lame cover version - please throw a full pint of beer at the DJ…..on my account. : Absolute garbage.
  9. Gotta agree……8-3-1 singalong pop disco nonsense…..she's made better records than that, including the new one posted above.
  10. Thanks for posting Mark - a proper soul ballad…
  11. So far these are all known oldies - and have all been played on the modern / crossover scene.
  12. Funny you should say that but I found a German test pressing white label complete with cover in Paris in the late 80s.....10 Francs. :
  13. This is probably true Ian and goes back to my earlier point - there's just no money in terrestrial broadcasting anymore.......and before anyone asks there is no money to be made from soul music either unless you are selling old vinyl.....or putting on a big event.....
  14. Can't agree with that sceneman.......It is a very good piece of Motown without the "sugar and spice" "whitening" that accompanied so many productions....proper hardcore.......but I guess different strokes for different folks.....
  15. Jees, surprised you are struggling to sell this. Was a Yarmouth Soul Essence floorpacker in the 90's.......where has everyone gone? Retired? Given up collecting?
  16. There's a gospel song on Hob is Gospel by a Chicago group that uses much of the same tune……Greater Bethlehem Young Adult Choir of Chicago "Can you feel the spirit" - pretty good it is too - one to look out for if you don't know it and like a bit of soulful gospel and like choirs singing a contemporary number.
  17. Paid quite a bit for the leroy barbour when practically no one - your fine self excepted obviously - seemed to have heard of it, a time when it was a "collectors 45" and there was nothing shabby about being a soul collector….mid tempo afternoon crossover - that's a more recent development that came in after you stopped going to weekenders…..and decided Burnley was the only town to be in…… ATB and HNY to you both…..
  18. "Do you remember" - sorry Russ but that really IS dreary compared to the A side……..Can't even describe it as listening music, since it would send many people to sleep…….IMHO of course. Happy new year.

Jazz Funkers "badge up" with northern soul wear? God I hopes not!
  20. Good points there Dave, and there is no money in traditional radio stations anymore (if there ever was)……sorry to say. Apart from the BBC which is taxpayer funded they're all struggling to stay above the waterline. Sonos, Soundcloud, Mixcloud hasn't helped either……on the one hand DJs can post shows up, but on the other greater choice means fewer listeners to go round the main stations. You can probably find 500 shows playing "Mustang Sally" so increasingly mainstream stations are going to have to offer something a bit different to attract listeners. Maybe a guy that can beat out percussion by bashing a 12" single over his head in time to the music? Despite all this Tony Blackburn still seems to be very popular judging by the number of callers he gets with his cheesy mixes and one liners. Sky channel is also an expensive route to go if they haven't done it before. Happy new year to you both!
  21. Yep Dave would be great to see you. Steve
  22. Ha, originally liked Jimmy Reed Jr best, then I got into Leroy Barbour when it was still under the radar, but now for mid tempo afternoon crossover you simply can't beat Jimmy Reed Jr…so they are both good.
  23. Yes that would be good - and this one was a packer too……
  24. Could be one of the other Shirelles on lead, haven't checked yet…..but the more I hear it the more I hear Stan Greenberg conducting The Discotays. So 99.9% sure it's NY. When was the Maxine version recorded - 65?
