  1. The best site for Motown listings is "Don't Forget The Motor City".
  2. I haven't on this topic and I wouldn't either, why bring them up? There are many great cheap records but I wouldn't go to a nighter billed as the rarest of the rare and expect to hear them. Like I said I enjoyed the night but felt they missed a great chance. Yes I know there was some DJ's there with some great collections but they wasn't allowed to express themselves fully IMO. I've said all I wanted to say, not gonna keep repeating myself and no wish to argue, like I said I would love to see Richard do this again with the best of the whole scene.
  3. What you on about? No one mentioned 20 quid records, I said it turned into a rare oldies only nighter, Larry Clinton, Al Williams, Frankie Beverley etc etc. Some rare rare records were not allowed simply because the mainstream scene didn't know them, that is fact, even thought they were big records on the nighter scene at the time. That is why I said I would like to see it happen again but this time include the best of the upfront side of the nighter scene involved. Stafford wasn't just about cheapies, quite the opposite. As I said I enjoyed the nighters, great venue but I felt they missed a great chance to really showcase the rarest of the rare from all eras.
  4. I'd love to see this happen again though with the very best DJ's on offer, Butch, Andy Dyson, Searling etc etc playing nothing but the best from not just the oldies scene but the upfront side of the scene as well.
  5. I don't care who is behind the decks, I would just love to see some DJ's with some balls and imagination and not play a set of unimaginative "oldies" or records simply because they cost several thousand pounds and basically aren't as good as most £20 records. Too many seem to chase records others have already played and are better known for the money they spend rather than the quality of their sets.
  6. Don't get me wrong great venue, fantastic dance-floor but apart for one or two DJ's it was usually an oldies fest. Still a good night but they missed a great chance IMO to introduce to great tunes to a wider audience.
  7. I thought they missed a great chance to promote something other than the rarest oldies.
  8. It's one of the greatest double siders money can buy, f*cking wasted on sodding adverts.
  9. The Rouser copy is edited isn't it....
  10. There was at least two FB's sold last year on eBay for around $4k. There was at least one on here, Pottsy I think sold one..
  11. The nearest there is in print is R&B Indies. No scan as such but does have the design. It also has the owner and address where known. I would imagine there are already websites that cover many labels.
  12. I have another to do tonight hopefully of the vicar and a bit of Chris King.
  13. Ally Mayer with an oldies set at the Leicester All-nighter, Nottingham Oddfellows November 1983. https://www.mixcloud.com/Chalkster/leicester-all-nighter-notts-oddfellows-11th12th-november-1983-ally-mayer/
  14. I've never been so disappointed seeing an artist as I was when I saw Spyder earlier this year. He was like a karaoke tribute act. If he does what we want to hear then he should be great cause he obviously still has it!
  15. I thought £150 about right personally
  16. The Dutch one is called Well Tempered Soul. https://www.popsike.com/Tempests-on-Dutch-Philips-Rare-Soul-LP-LISTEN/110689645660.html
  17. I guess different companies will require different demands. When I asked few years ago, they needed an inventory with photos and a valuation from an independent expert unless receipts could be provided. You can insure anything at a cost.

There's a few gems coming out on Kent lately. The Johnny Copeland and Romark release look essential buys as well.
  19. I understand that Ian, but everyone on this site knows all about it. That's why I asked do we seriously get excited about the mere mention of a northern soul record to start a topic about it.
  20. I agree to a point but some researcher at radio two will be into northern and will have fed him this info. It's not as though this record has escaped media attention in the past with Kenny even appearing on TV with it if I remember rightly.
  21. I don't think I'd bat an eyelid to that Pete.
  22. Fair comment but my point was (and it ain't a dig) is that there are plenty of soul and northern soul lovers who work in advertising, TV and radio, this is now practically an every day occurrence, you only have to watch coronation street for a mention or a record getting played then wait till the next morning for another topic about it.
  23. Does something like this really excite people? There's Motown and northern on radio everyday. It's on many tv shows as well.
  24. I rate Willie Hightower more than a tenner but not as high as some have listed, seen t at £75. Saying that I've seen it sell for that.
