Djing - Clear The Floor - Question
Who are these that sneer from on high as I don't see this. Nor do I see DJ's on a pedestal. I keep reading crap like this but no one is prepared to name anyone or any venue. I see DJ's asked to play the records they are best known for, sometimes that isn't suitable for the crowd but that isn't the fault of the DJ, again it is the promoter who I have no doubt had good intentions and probably wants to hear something different but his crowd don't want it, they want what they hear every week.

Djing - Clear The Floor - Question
I've been booked to play a particular set, I'm sure others have, I've double checked are you sure? When you get there, totally unsuitable for the crowd that attends. Whose fault is that, it's not the DJ's although he is the one who gets the blame and the bad name. Maybe some promoters should wise up a little.

Djing - Clear The Floor - Question
What is a rarer event? There are some mighty rare classics you seem to hear every week. Is this what you mean or are you referring to venues that play records not so well known?

Me too, pretty much a set if oldies you would hear up and down the country on any given week!

Original Vinyl Only Do..not Quite
ffs I doubt there's one person attends a venue that they are forced to attend and forced to Listen to a format that is in breach of their principles. Most of us know where we are going and what we are letting ourselves in for. Most of us know the promoters, the Dj's and the policy of any particular club so WHY on earth is this constantly regurgitated? Those that attend venues where the format is in breach of Soul scene etiquette couldn't give a toss so why on earth do some constantly worry about them. Ffs go out and do what you want to do and enjoy it before its too late and let those who couldn't care get on with it. If someone wishes to play tracks off a laptop, whoopie fookin do, you are not got to stop them or change them and it won't spoil my night out wherever I choose to go.

Original Vinyl Only Do..not Quite
Too many think it is ok now Russ, that's why this topic keeps getting regurgitated. Out and about I bet there's less than 10% in a venue who actually care what format is being played.

Best Set Ever Spun?
Are you saying 2002 was first time out for the Mello Souls? And who played Margaret Little at the Ritz cause none of those listed had it first to my knowledge?

Original Vinyl Only Do..not Quite
Most downloads now go beyond portable personal use. Many you wouldn't know they were compressed, it isn't audible to the human ear the compression. Not saying they are right though. Many downloads are totally legitimate, with royalties going to the right people. Again not saying this is an excuse to play them out.

Books Update
There is no difference between a book and a t-shirt, permission is required to use anything where a copyright exists. Some obscure image from the 60's might prove impossible to locate the copyright owner.

Melba Moore - The Magic Touch - Musicor
Why it had a legit release on Kent/Horace labels?

Books Update
I think you will find copyright applies to a photo, image on a sleeve, logo etc just like it does with a recording. Permission is required if you wish to use what someone else has produced. Copyright for a photo is applied as soon as the photo is taken and doesn't need to be registered. Copyright is owned by either the photographer or by the company the photographer is employed by. Whilst fair use will apply to publicity images that ae released for the press they might only be issued to one exclusive outlet and anyone using without permission could be in breach of copyright. There might be restrictions/copyright implications if the images are later reproduced? A simply google will give you everything you need to know.

Where To Start? Djing?
It was me who said it was in a rut and you are right Northern Jordan and others like him could be a breath of fresh air but IMO they have to offer something other than what is on offer right now at many places and not fall into the buy it/play it because everyone else is scenario. Forget the trophy records, plenty already have and play them, they re becoming boring. As I said 100's of cheap records that are never given the light of the day because of the sheep mentality of many. Play a record because you like the record your self and would play it at home, not because it is a "safe" spin. Above all enjoy it. If you are simply going to do what others are already doing and offer the same, then what is the point?

On Top Of The World - The Stafford All-Nighters Podcasts
It's all thanks to John Trewartha (John from Haverhill). He's the one who supplied them. I've a couple more to do yet when I get time, Keb at Leicester in 1985 and Dave T and Pat Brady at Stafford in what looks like 1983.
