  1. If you had explained what you meant better then I possibly wouldn't have removed it, off the cuff remarks do cause trouble and different people read such remarks in different ways.
  2. One post from dimples making unfounded allegations removed.
  3. Meant for Qunivy and in relation to carvers, cuts or boots not sh*te records. Bootleggers and counterfeiters have been around a lot longer than this scene and whilst ever there is a demand for a product they will remain.
  4. By all means discuss it but there was a topic last week covering most of this and there is one on at least a monthly basis covering the same grounds.
  5. Lifeline is still looking for a suitable venue to hold a weekender. I too miss then and I don't n anything has replaced it in this country. How successful was Manchester? Heard mixed reports regarding attendances?
  6. Space isn't limited here so maybe you should rewrite it and get the correct facts out there?
  7. I understand there is a difference. It's getting ridiculous all these debates. Most who are voicing an opinion no where they are going to go for their soul fix, who is Djing, what they play, what format and what the promoters policy is. Some don't even go to venues. Phil have you never played somethng you shouldn't?
  8. I'll see if I can find it later, people will be surprised to see OVO isn't restricted to the so called upfront scene as many seem to believe.
  9. As Andy has the info he needs will close the topic. Not the place for venue chat really. Thanks.
  10. Yet again another event topic removed from this forum. Most should be aware of the policy regarding this, especially long standing members. If not it can be read in the link in the first post on this topic.
  11. There is a Frank Wilson take but thought that was from tapes? I have it at home on a tape or cd. The Vows was recorded on he West Coast. Check Don't Forget The Motor City for the details.
  12. I agree Phil, eyes and ears are turned by some but not by all, there's plenty from across the scene, oldies, upfront, whatever label you give it, who do care, IMO of course.
  13. There are also "oldies" promoters with integrity who do care but yeah essentially you are right. There is enough information about venues these days out there and most of us know what is what where DJ's and promoters are concerned and we go where we choose based upon this info.
  14. I'm sure we've had a topic about a look alike boot of this before but I can't find the topic right now.
  15. Another general sweeping statement Phil. There are promoters with integrity, plenty of them but as in any walk of life there are others who couldn't care and will play by different rules.

Bob I fully respect what you do on your radio show and listen often as I remember to go and download. Of course I wasn't referring to you with regards to our clubs, you have no influence what goes on in this country. It was a view point of what goes on here that I was coming from, my apologies if you though otherwise. Your advice is good advice coming from someone with experience. But listeners probably don't care about the taste of the Dj, just whether they enjoy what they are hearing, if they do they return, no different to a night out really. As said radio is a chance to expose more obscure, unknown, semi known and forgotten soul music to a wider audience.
  17. Do we really need to have title to a topic like this? I'd have thought we were a little more educated than this. I've also removed or edited the swearing in posts where it wasn't edited. Everyone should know about editing your words if you must swear as it causes problems with firewalls and other filters. I know it is an emotive subject but anymore I will just remove the post as I'm not here to edit others postings.
  18. There is a topic on the front page and in All About The Soul, can you use that one please, no need for two topics. Thanks.

Bob I agree with what you say but we are talks mainstream northern soul here though and a chance to get some lesser known more obscure tracks over to a wider audience. It makes you wonder why so few Peole go to some events and why some venues have closed over the years, well it doesn't to be honest the answers most of the time are on here. Stephen simly asked for a few suggestions and instead he got all this, no wonder some have the why bother attitude these days to soul forums.

No Bob, there's a minority that wish to hear obscure and rare records, the majority don't really care whether it is rare, cheap played here there or everywhere by this that and t'other DJ. Some people just want to listen to music without the need to know everything about the 45, who recorded it where and when, what session and what is in the run out groove.

Do we really need another ovo, cd or whatever format arguement? The guy simply asked for a few suggestions for a radio show? How do you expect to convert others to lesser known material when everyone keeps it to themselves. There's plenty of cheap records that are unknown, semi known etc to the majority, regardless of where and when they were played. I would also think when listening to the radio most wold be a bit more open minded and not want what they are comfortable with, after all the radio for many is often in the background whilst doing other stuff. There's plenty of shows on the radio to satisfy those who wish to hear rare vinyl only but I would have thought radio would be the ideal opportunity to get others into lesser known material. It would appear many of you doesn't want them to and wish to keep it for yourselves. No wonder some venues play to 40, 50, 60 peope etc. Looking at the site it looks all above board and I would assume all licences are obtained and dues paid??
  22. I've PM'ed you wold love to read your paper. Anything like this interests me. The lecture I attended in Salford was really interesting.
  23. I did get to listen to Crime Doesn't Pay and your right not the same, totally different.
  24. some great photos Eddie, wish I could have been there! How about an article about the trip? Tell us all about it.
  25. I'm sure there is but they obviously didn't do the homework with this one did they.
