Would This Be Acceptable?
Dunno I've been offered £30 for one, turned them down as promised I wouldn't pass it on.
-
Would This Be Acceptable?
Some people believe it or not actually pay a lot of money for certain sound files.
-
Would This Be Acceptable?
Lets take it one stage further and you collectors, if a landlord or a club owner asked you to do a Soul Night but he said I've none of them decks we used to use years ago just cd and digital equipment (laptop etc), would you turn the night down? I'm not talking about an all-nighter etc, just some local club trying to get some extra custom through doors. All this talk about can't play this nor play it on that etc is getting a bit ridiculous if you ask me.

Would This Be Acceptable?
Cut the off topic rubbish and stick to the topic, don't mind a laugh but some take it too far. Any more and it will be over to Freebasing.

Would This Be Acceptable?
why do you need an iPod? Why not simply use your laptop and use one of the great DJ programs, DJay 3 or VirtualDJ for example. edit: Just seen Dave T's post. DJay 3 is about the best for your iPad.

Mary Love - Lay This Burden Down-Instrumental
No Kangaroo court, up until now many believed it was a bootleg (I dare says many still believe it is), masters obtained through dubious practices and no monies going the way of the owners/songwriters etc. Given what has been said it would appear otherwise and will take your word for it Kev. There have been however other instances of boots done using the original masters etc. I talk with Arthur Wright occasionally I will ask and see if he remembers anything about this.

Ian Levine Productions
I actually found a copy on the shelf t'other day when looking for some other 45's, Goldmine demo.

Mary Love - Lay This Burden Down-Instrumental
Kev, you are right I don't know him, heard many stories about him and the many tricks he did and was known to get up to. Like Is said I will take some persuading that this ain't a boot. Too many knowledgeable collectors have said this is a boot, far more than have said it it is legit so for me the jury is out on this one.

Mary Love - Lay This Burden Down-Instrumental
I'm not convinced Kev, Soussan's reputation precedes him and I would want some compelling evidence he did everything with this above board. I guess the jury is out on this one.

Mary Love - Lay This Burden Down-Instrumental
No wish to turn this into another boots topic but I agree with your first rule but it would appear some say it is ok to play a bootlegged record just because it hasn't had a release, there is no justification to play it and give acknowledgement to the bootlegger. The only person to benefit is Soussan. Like Ady said I doubt Soussan changed any habits and obtained this legally. As I said the vocal is one of the best records ever, fantastic dancer, superb vocal form Mary, what more do you want in a record. But hey at the end of the day like you and Pete said if they want to play it out just play it.

The Parisians / Traditions - Twinkle Little Star
Parisians, $1980 (Vg+) June this year on evilbay..........one a month later for $677 (described as good condition)

The Parisians / Traditions - Twinkle Little Star
If I've got these the right way round the Traditions used to be about £400 and the Parisians about £7/800. Both well in demand (and overplayed IMO) and price has risen. Last Parisians on ebay well over £1k. Think the last Traditions I saw was around £700. But as I said in demand and you never know what would happen in an auction and two lunatics wanted either bad enough.

why play the instrumental (seems like some condone the actions of bootleggers) when you have one of the greatest Northern Soul records ever with the vocal version.

50 Key Landmark Moments In Northern Soul History
Good shout Ady. First one was 1989. 1990 was first northern soul one, Chuck Jackson etc. still have all the flyers.

Are C.d's On The Way Out ?
Think YouTube is a different beast to the likes of Spotify, amazon and apple. Dunno what goes to the record companies and artists but they do have agreements with them. Wasn't so long ago YouTube gave nothing but the threat of the companies it allowing them any music changed that. They do now pay royalties though.

Gene Toones On Evilbay
been a fair few demo's on the bay. Issue seems to be harder. It's not $2.5k are either, plenty for sale over the years.

Are C.d's On The Way Out ?
Apple bought a streaming company like spottily a year or so ago. That along with the iCloud you can bet iTubes will rival Spotify and even better it very soon. They also have agreements with most if not all the major record companies in place for their iCloud music service. Any platform that gets the music out there and the artists benefit can only be a good thing.

Are C.d's On The Way Out ?
I'm referring to cd vs. 253kbps rip. Most will not notice a difference with your average pop/soul etc track, the losses are too subtle to the ear. Classical etc then the trained ear will notice the difference. Of course lossless is far better, no one denies that but we are talking downloads via iTunes/amazon/napster etc. 253kbps download (the last track I downloaded, Kim Katrell - Did You See Here Last Night) you will not notice the difference between that and the cd. It is a 6.1mb file which will probably be a compression rating of around 5:1.

What Is The Song?
but none of those were new sounds in the 90's?

What Is The Song?
Too right Joan. It was a massive record in the 80's, Keb, Rob Marriott just two. It was covered up as Dave Charles too I think. Again like you said it has featured regularly on DJ's playlists over the last 20 years or so.
