  1. Parisians, $1980 (Vg+) June this year on evilbay..........one a month later for $677 (described as good condition)
  2. If I've got these the right way round the Traditions used to be about £400 and the Parisians about £7/800. Both well in demand (and overplayed IMO) and price has risen. Last Parisians on ebay well over £1k. Think the last Traditions I saw was around £700. But as I said in demand and you never know what would happen in an auction and two lunatics wanted either bad enough.
  3. why play the instrumental (seems like some condone the actions of bootleggers) when you have one of the greatest Northern Soul records ever with the vocal version.
  4. Good shout Ady. First one was 1989. 1990 was first northern soul one, Chuck Jackson etc. still have all the flyers.
  5. Think YouTube is a different beast to the likes of Spotify, amazon and apple. Dunno what goes to the record companies and artists but they do have agreements with them. Wasn't so long ago YouTube gave nothing but the threat of the companies it allowing them any music changed that. They do now pay royalties though.
  6. been a fair few demo's on the bay. Issue seems to be harder. It's not $2.5k are either, plenty for sale over the years.
  7. Apple bought a streaming company like spottily a year or so ago. That along with the iCloud you can bet iTubes will rival Spotify and even better it very soon. They also have agreements with most if not all the major record companies in place for their iCloud music service. Any platform that gets the music out there and the artists benefit can only be a good thing.
  8. I'm referring to cd vs. 253kbps rip. Most will not notice a difference with your average pop/soul etc track, the losses are too subtle to the ear. Classical etc then the trained ear will notice the difference. Of course lossless is far better, no one denies that but we are talking downloads via iTunes/amazon/napster etc. 253kbps download (the last track I downloaded, Kim Katrell - Did You See Here Last Night) you will not notice the difference between that and the cd. It is a 6.1mb file which will probably be a compression rating of around 5:1.

The things some of these dealers/dj's do to get these rare records.
  10. but none of those were new sounds in the 90's?
  11. Too right Joan. It was a massive record in the 80's, Keb, Rob Marriott just two. It was covered up as Dave Charles too I think. Again like you said it has featured regularly on DJ's playlists over the last 20 years or so.
  12. one here Record Row, Cradle of Rhythm & Blues https://www.thevideob...cago-blues.html
  13. at a compression rate of 11:1 there is little if any noticeable difference to the human ear. You can go as far as something like 17:1 before any loss becomes audible. Of course it all depends on what bit rate you compress to and the quality of your source. Take iTunes, at a bit rate of 253kbps you will not notice any audible loss. You can get lossless and many download platforms now so that will do away with any quality issues.
  14. I don't know where people get the poor quality from iTunes. The last one I downloaded was 253 kbps (standard download as far as I'm aware), cd standard used to be 192kbps. You can compress a sound file quite a lot before you can audibly hear any loss to the music. My digital files are backed up to three other drives.
  15. It has more recent crossover spins. Nev had one for sale at £300 few months ago.
  16. What are the early cds of the northern scene worth these days, I've got the very first Soul Supply one somewhere upstairs.
  17. It might have happened at 100 Club as well then cause that's where I though it had happened. I do remember the Winsford one now explained but sure I wasn't there that night.
  18. Saw her at Yarmouth in '89. Her voice wasn't up to much and many pretty disappointed from what I remember, don't think many of us realised this was probably due to the cancer.
  19. it's an oldie Mark isn't it?

Gotta agree with you, can't understand why people have to give their opinion of a records quality when all that is asked is the title and singer. I'm sure some of their tastes leave a little to be desired at times. If talking about the record in general then can't see nothing wrong in giving your opinion.
  21. Poll result interesting so far, less than 10% happy to go out and don't mind paying to hear boots. The rest would prefer to hear originals. But just under 22% don't care what the format is they are listening/dancing to with over three quarters actually caring. Just 1 person wants to hear the same old same every week with the largest majority in favour of lesser known etc along side quality classics. Wonder if any promoters will take notice of this?
  22. It's happened countless times Carms. I remember once at Desborough some "DJ" playing a grapevine re-issue when the next DJ on had just spent a few thousand on a really rare record. Words were exchanged I can tell you.
