  1. There was rumours at the time that at least 25 had turned up in the haul but sure those involved said the the count was in single figures. Few turned up since as well. It might not be the most quality laden recording ever made but it is fantastic Northern Soul, what the scene is all about!
  2. Who first had it on a list wasn't Beasy's question though, no history being re-written. Don't think Rod made the record popular did he?

can you please simply edit your original post and not reply with "on hold" or "sold". Please read the pinned topics at the top of sales forum, topic closed. And you made three sales posts, that could have been condensed into at least two.
  4. I doubt that is the reason they are coming up for sale Paul. I know Andy Dyson was playing it back in the early days of Lifeline, can remember a steady stream coming up to the decks for a gander at what it was, Sam later hammered it as did plenty of others.
  5. Who is or was Soul Spin records? You'd think the site would at least use a scan of the original issue
  6. It's been hammered for last 6 or 7 years but been around for lot longer. Reckon there's more than some think around although a rare record. With the two up for auction, one Flynny can get his hands, I've seen two for sale last two or three months, not bad for a rare record is it.
  7. First of all you quote a young dancer who wears retro clothing then knock older ones for doing the same, make your mind up is it ok for one and not another? If you don't like the clothing just say so no need to go down the "Clown" route is there. And is there really any need to get personal with Trickster? The topic is about the next generation and attacting then to the scene, not insulting others, stick to the topic please. And can you please post an introduction just so fellow members know a bit about you and who they are debating with Members Shouts and Intros Thanks Chalky
  8. Andy Dyson has been playing it on and off at certain venues for couple of years at least.
  9. I've forgotten who most are now, been a couple of weeks or so since been on there as well.
  10. How do you know Honky outbid you? Don't use ebay too much these days but thought you couldn't see who the other bidders were?
  11. I can remember it going for £800 or there abouts back in around '86, certainly when Lifeline was at Sheridens. Sure someone had one month or so ago and wanted a £1000. I would say around £800 though but whether it would be worth that without demand and based purely on rarity is open to debate. It does pop up on a fairly regular basis.
  12. It was a 21st party at The Top of the World in Derby according to Guy, played it three times in a row. Then later at Stafford.
  13. Guy tells the story at https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/guyhenigan.htm
  14. He made a lot of money out of the UK soul scene selling fakes as originals. Myself and someone else rumbled him on here and he denied it at first, when I mentioned evidence he said summat like well you'd never have got to hear them otherwise or something like. Don't think he's posted since.
  15. yes it is, there's also a take by Jimmy himself. Shame many of those Chris sold as original acetates were fakes though (not saying Mal's is btw). Know a few who were duped. New acetates with old label stuck on top of the new label.
  16. No wonder I can remember f*ck all these days, I always put it down to age Must take my drink with me in future. I seriously doubt rohypnol is a drug of choice on then soul scene though. Town centre bars full of prowlers maybe?
  17. Andy D said at the last Kings Hall the upfront room was full of youngsters.
  18. I agree wholeheartedly, good luck to them. I say get on with what they are doing and sod the more traditional side of the scene, they can do without the baggage that goes with it. I'm gonna try and get across to BB and sample it for myself, I heard what Paul plays and seen other playlists, looks good. Your first paragraph is basically what I was saying about it the venues success being due in part to the location and student population.
  19. oops yes I did, cheers mark, edited.
  20. Azza DJ'ed at the Wilton last week, Callum at Burnley week before, Lifeline gave the Beat Boutique boys a set, Paul did a great set, Liam failed to turn up, not the first time either I was told. They aren't being ignored but they do have to have something more to offer than what is already there and with the quality of collections and experience some of the older generation have they are gonna take some shifting, no good giving someone a set just because of their age. All the three I've mentioned did themselves no harm, Paul Barker especially. He had the best hour of the night at Lifeline and did a cracking set and I for one would recommend him to any promoter. It has been said though that places the younger generation frequent are not the same as your traditional soul night/nighter with different genres played by the young uns that probably wouldn't go down as well with the older generation. Also think the age difference has something to do with it and the location. Would the Beat Boutique boys get the same crowd and amount through the door if it wasn't one of the countries largest cities with a very large student population? The youngsters are more than welcome at Lifeline but I don't think by and large they are up for the travelling like the older generation???
  21. Well your homework not that good as I haven't lived in Chesterfield for 3 years and why the big interest in me? If you want to know owt just ask, no need to go sneaking about. As for the midlands there little of interest to me there. Gonna have to try and get to Chesterfield sometime to catch up with some old mates but that is about it.

Didn't this also come out as the New Yorkers, very rare though.
  24. I don't class myself as a DJ at all, rarely play out these days and I doubt I'll be doing any next year. I'm just a collector who is occasionally asked to play some records out. As for unissued tracks, if there is an original acetate owned by a Dj then I wouldn't play a carver cut etc. If Kent or some other company puts out an unissued track then play the bloody thing, whats wrong with that. I don't play legal reissues if there is a US original out there, especially if there is a DJ to follow with the US original. And if you go back through the history on this site I've never said any different. In fact I would sooner play the original source which is often a CD, not like some who go and spend £20 or so on a carver just to make things look more legit! I doubt most artists made anything when the record was first cut and any money made from a legal re-issues would be taken up by the company or the one who holds the rights which in most cases isn't he artist. I also have a few mates, no more than a few mates, who have impressive collections, some of the best out there in fact, so what? I'm also about pretty often and not that hard to find when I am out. This topic has been done to death, there's already a topic running about boots, pressing etc. How many topics do you want on the same subject.
