  1. I will say it again, cut the off topic, move on! Gene already said he will repost his original post and we will start again. Anymore and it will be removed.
  2. Gloria Jones, Jimmy Mcfarland And The Tiaras CD View full article
  3. Can we just use the one topic Mark, suggest the one in events. Should be a good day regardless, plenty of record talk, might make the Greatstone and then Burnley All-Nighter Do you reckon that football club will let us use the showers to freshen up
  4. You appear to be the most vocal with the one liners but it is a message to everyone, get back on topic. Gene has already said he will repost his original post when he gets home and start again, without the aggro.
  5. And you've made that quite clear, don't you think you should now help the topic move on instead of constant off topic one liners?
  6. I haven't seen anyone come on here with an attitude that they know more than anyone else? I've seen some defend their beliefs and what is wrong with that, it is called debate. And I doubt any of the main protagonists on this debate would be any different face to face in a venue, I for one wouldn't say something I would say to anyones face. Now, I would just like to clarify one thing. I did say it in my initial post, last sentence but it would appear some inn an attempt to score a few cheap points overlooked this, what I have said on this topic and almost every other topic is my MY OWN PERSONAL POINT OF VIEW and OPINIONS! They are NOT the site's view or anything to do with moderating. I think it is quite clear when I am acting on behalf of the site and when I am posting my own point of view but some as I said just want to score cheap points and do a bit of mod bashing, usually cause they have been pulled up over something in the past. As it has been shown that I have done no wrong and haven't abused any so called powers I might have maybe some would like to edit their posts where they make such claims. I wouldn't abuse any moderating powers I have, I wouldn't use any powers I might have for personal gain and certainly wouldn't put Mike in such a situation. I am a big boy and can look after myself, I've had to put up with far worse in life than what someone might say on a message board. I do agree though with Jock's reply although I do agree that it should have been worded differently and not as strongly as he did. But as said by others as well as myself when you load a post with as much as Gene did he was bound to get a strong response from other members. As Mike said lets cut the tit for tat posts, name calling or whatever else and have healthy debate. Maybe Gene can copy and paste his original post and we can start again. Get back on topic and move forward.
  7. Pete you are often "off hand" with people with your retorts. I though Jocks response was articulate, ok he might have been upset but maybe the countless digs at people because their taste doesn't fit in with someones ideology drove him to the point were enough was enough. I was thinking something along the lines of Jock but I felt I didn't have to say anything more as he'd already said it.
  8. Exactly It matters little, it's the quality that counts. The Righteous Brothers "Soul Out" is a regular on my decks along side the so called proper stuff It's no less soulful just because they are white. I can fully understand some, including me taking a dislike to the Javells, pure treaty pop, but I can also understand why those were there at the time like the record. But then again The Javells isn't part of the Soul Scene but the Northern Scene where it often matters little whether a record has soul in it, especially back in he day
  9. Pete, butt out, I haven't reopened any topic, I've started my own.
  10. He can't, I started this topic. Get's on my tit's the way some think they can behave and feel the need to berate and have a go at anyone who's taste doesn't match their idea of what Soul/Northern Soul is or should be, then soon as someone has a go back they spit the dummy out.
  11. You already have haven't you? I won't change my opinions just because I am a Mod on here. And I have the right to start a new topic and have the right of reply.

I had a feeling it wouldn't reach the prices some expected. Maybe the fact it's simply a variant, albeit very very rare one, and available for helluva lot less played it's part? Plus you had to be there I bet the winning bidder is happy and even happier it didn't fetch a lot more which it could quite easily have done. I wouldn't mind it in my collection though but I was genuinely more excited over the one Butch got hold of, the Exodus acetate/test press, an even rarer piece if rumours of at least another Bunky copy out there.
  13. I don't think it's right Gene that you have a dig then close topic therefore denying right oif reply. If anything was ill informed it was your initial post Gene. I'm fed up with people having a go because their taste in soul and pop isn't the same as others on the site. I have a very broad and diverse range in taste and Jock's taste in Soul music and Northern Soul is as diverse as anyone I know. Just because I didn't like that pile of pop tripe The Javells, cause that is what it is, pop, nothing to do with soul music, blue eyed or otherwise. Jock post came across as pretty well informed to me and certainly not gibberish. You obviously don't know Jock cause how you described him is not the man I know, far from it, but I'm sure he'll stick up for himself. It is high time the insults like narrow minded and soul snob stopped just because our tastes differ cause that is all it is at the end of the day, personal taste, nothing to do with snobbery, I and many many others are into soul music, we have to suffer The Javells on here but it doesn't mean we have to suffer it when we go out and if someone chooses to avoid that type of venue it's nothing to do with anyone else. As Jock said it is primarily a soul scene, made up of black soul music with a fair smattering of blue-eyed Soul and some pop as well. If someone doesn't like the pop so what, it is their prerogative, get over it. If the topic had been left open I'm sure many others would have felt the same way as Jock, myself and Arkwright. I'm sure others would have agreed with you and continued with the soul snob insults as well, thats debate, not spitting you dummy out and closing the topic . What aren't I old enough to know what I'm agreeing with, doesn't make sense one bit that part of your rant? I don't feel embarrassed either. Lastly what I say has nothing to do with my status as forum staff. It is my own personal opinion, just like yours, I don't make myself out to be a pillar of society either. If Mike thinks I've stepped out of line I'm sure he will tell me so.
  14. Probably not Cliff in retrospect, I didn't have a copy of the record when I did the listing and was given that date by a usually reliable source, I might have even typed a 6 rather than a 7 at the time, I'll have to check all my notes when I get home or I'll just ask Lucky himself. It was as far as I can remember definitely before the orange press, not at the same time. Anyone got the run out details?
  15. Pete, I was 8, I didn't know me Javells from me arsehole But I've never liked the record or records of a similar ilk. Now Sam Williams, as good as it gets, always loved it I know why and how soul snob is used but doesn't mean I or others have to like or put up with it just because our tastes differ. The term only really comes out when we talk about pop records.
  16. Give it time, it might grow on me
  17. Why is it when your taste in music doesn't match someone's from back in the day you're a soul snob. Nothing to do with being a snob it's my personal taste in music. I've danced to, owned and even dj'ed with my fair share of white poppy records but this record to me is simply shite, no ifs not buts no had to be there boll**ks, just shite.
  18. Yellow label I believe 1969. Legit Orange label re-issue 1980. any additions to the label listing would be appreciated. https://www.soulunder...co.uk/styled-3/ Luckey "Jamal" Davis is for those not aware is also Mr Lucky (I Was Born To Love You).
  19. Obviously it fetch daft money on a certain dealers auction but in the months following there was several up for sale around £250. Was fairly common and relatively cheap at one time but then again so were so many other records. What a dealer would put on this now not sure.
  20. All subjective at the end of the day Mark. Every era had its share of turkeys. Suppose when your young and off your face the music didn't matter so much? Still wouldn't want to hear this out though today.
  21. I wouldn't want to hear this record out at a venue, all I can say is the drugs must have been top notch back then when you think of some of the quality at the disposal of the DJ's

plenty of places playing something different, forgotten, underplayed or whatever tag you want to nail to them.
  23. Chalky replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
The expensive ones are more often than not Mark the ones everyone is after and playing, Tommo should go after some of the cheap forgotten, underplayed oldies, there's stacks of them out there.

I could probably retire on the collection I sold in the early/mid 90's, just before those who packed in when Wigan closed returned and pushed prices up again. I had plenty I paid little for that are now worth £100's and in some cases £1000's but hey ho thats life. There are 1000's of cheap obtainable records out there. Stop living on past memories and get out there, get looking and seek new ones.
