  1. The Candi Staton too? Certain DJ's had these before the CD's but you rarely heard them. I was talking about this to Ady Pountain at the Wilton that some great promotion is missed out on because the tracks that are due for a 45 release are not available to DJ's who could do a superb promotion job for you.. It would be good for some of the regular all-nighter Dj's to get the chance to play them out. Just a thought
  2. Why aren't these tracks made available to the scene in general so that they can be heard out week in week out by the scenes main dj's at some of the main venues? Think Ace/Kent missing out on a great way to promote the records? Apart from the cd I've heard the Willie Bollinger out once, at Just Soul. I don't get the chance to listen to the radio on a Sunday morning either.
  3. What is impossible about Tell me It's Just A Rumour? Already said twice that it was available on an LP in 1967. Who did discover Out on The Floor and where was it played then? Enlighten us. I thought Brian was a DJ at the Wheel so how can you say he never went? How come you are always right and others wrong? You're memory surely can't be so tip top all things considered?
  4. Opinions like ars*holes, we've all got one I did put IMO and you are right it would be boring if we all liked the same stuff. JR and BJE for me are better dancers with better arrangements, flow that bit better for the dancers. The Keith and Billie doesn't do anything at all for me.

Swish, chill out, no need for the aggression. You have had two or three goes at Brian Phillips now over Wheel spins and now had a go at Kegsy. No ones memory is perfect, especially from so long ago.
  6. Pretty sure there was an acetate of JR as well, I've certainly got a recording of it, if you search Chris's sales you will come across it. Knowing Chris there will be a few dodgy acetates as well as he was getting them cut and putting old labels on them. The supposedly real acetates were too cheap if they were real IMO. And I'm sorry but the Keith and Billie is sh*te compared to both Jimmy Radcliffe and BJE takes, IMO of course.

Mello Souls is of course We Can Make It.
  8. To be honest Popsike and Collectors frenzy would be the last place to go for a value as auctions are simply to unpredictable and are littered with freak selling prices and as said far too many are not even on these sites. Gemm is by and large expensive, prices rounded up, the added costs added on etc. Sites like Soul Source and the dealers are the best indications of a real world price, what they sell for on lists and on the shop floor of venues. Basically use all the resources at your disposal if selling then you can use your own best judgement depending on what you have in the record (what it cost you) and what you want to make or lose. Some want to sell a record and get 100% profit, some happy with 1%, 5%, 10% etc just as long as they make a bit back and cover costs. Some can't afford to sit on a record till they get what they want some can. Lots to take into consideration depending on your circumstances.
  9. I'll add that one to the list, got to get back into reading in the New Year.....
  10. I didn't say you had compared Burnley to Stafford, that was someone else earlier in the topic. Think the term "sound" and "tune/record" getting mixed up. I've already said Burnley had a sound of it's own so will leave at that. Off for another Gonna have to restock soon
  11. I don't recall anyone saying the European scene isn't any good? But we are talking about the UK scene where the all-nighter crowd is twice the age of the European crowd and getting smaller. Very few youngsters are getting into the scene and who can blame them? They will never be able to afford the vinyl for one and again most are not interested in the vinyl format, they live in a digital world. Thats why this topic is being discussed, technics stopping making analogue turntables. Was in town doing Christmas shopping and one of the shops popular with youngsters had a DJ on playing music, from a laptop! Not many can afford the originals now never mind back when you mention and this alone will never encourage youngsters on to this scene. Vinyl sales are on the up? Pointless argument that one as it doesn't really concern this scene does it? The vinyl being sold is on different dance scenes frequented by youngsters who I doubt once they have grown up a bit will stick with the scenes. We deal in the main in second hand records not new releases. It's ok mentioning retro soul in the charts but very very few of them have no place on the UK Northern/Rare Soul scene. Soul and vinyl is here to stay but we are a tiny minority in the music world. Even with no scene we will still collect.
  12. I don't deny Burnley had it's own style. it did (good on it too, I only wish more venues did the same instead of following the flock), but most of the records featured at Burnley were played already on the scene, many of them oldies, it had very few records you could say were exclusive to Burnley or "broken" at the venue, I could got through Andy K's list and say half of them were played by such and such first but what's the point. Burnley is popular amongst a a small minority of folk who like Jock said maybe missed out on a lot of what was played first time round. You would think reading the topics on here it was packed to the rafters every time but far from it. The last two have had a total of about 80 people through the doors, just over 20 at the last one so I hear, and Phil struggled a lot with numbers. Wigan and Stafford had their own sound and their own records but like Jock said to even begin to compare Burnley to places like Stafford is laughable. It is a pointless argument, Wigan and Stafford might have borrowed sounds from other venues but they did "break" 100's of new discoveries as well. As for Rudy Love it was played anywhere Cliff Steele played for one, Lifeline and other venues, long before Burnley, it was through Cliff that others picked up on the record. If you wanna claim a record for anywhere at least get the facts right. Off for a pint.....
  13. Do you seriously think we will be carrying the torch still playing vinyl years from now? Most kids haven't seen a record player never mind a record. The scene is slowly dying as a dance scene now with very few youngsters coming onto the scene, certainly not enough to keep it going when we are no longer able too. The whole mentality of the scene will probably have to change for this to carry on many years into the future or it will slowly disappear up it's own arse. We may not agree with mp3's, cd's and laptops etc but this is all kids know about.
  14. Most haulage companies have delivered nationwide with the exception of a few days, most notably in Scotland the other week. We lost one day, maybe day and half up there because of that. By the Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday we were travelling as far north as Fraserbrough. I've not lost a days work because of it,(just a few hours sat on your roundabout broken down nothing to do with the weather). I think the delivery people are to some extent using this weather as an excuse , we have delivered all over the country, from consumer goods to timber and steel. I've collected from several pallet force depots and these are empty, all the goods etc have been delivered or moved on. My brother drives for a food company delivering to all the RDC's of all the major supermarkets and distributors, he's not lost a days work either, maybe the odd delay but everything has been delivered. Not saying there hasn't been delays and problems but I think the some UK companies, Royal Mail in particular are using this as an excuse, their drivers have a cushy life as it is. Maybe they should sub the work out to some of the haulage companies that can drive in this weather
  15. Andy Dyson played it out years ago.
  16. There's one born every minute, well 6 in this case. 6 copies listed at once and they still spend over £300 on 'em, daft. Would they spend that sort of money on Danny Moore? No so why so much on this record?
  17. Familiar in what way? It isn't a Burnley Record as the title is suggesting. It was played at other venues before Burnley.
  18. Rudy Love been around long time Kev. I'm with Joan, To be considered a sound of anywhere it has to be "broken" there and gone on to bigger things, that includes the venue. Plenty of venues play records that make you want to dance.

Seen that many a time. Also seen someone run up what he thought was a wall and land in the corridor the other side, at the Rocket, wet myself I did . The couple walking up the corridor sh*t themselves
  20. I've seen a photo of Chuck Cockerham in Bill Pinkey's Drifters. I've also got an unissued track of Chuck's at home.

  22. I can't think of a fake/counterfeit whatever you want to call it that hasn't been sussed pretty quickly. The reason people get fooled is probably because they haven't seen the disc in the flesh and the green eyed monster taking over with the collector having to get hold of the apparent bargain. Technology would probably be the bootleggers downfall. And do you really think that we would be fooled by a rare disc suddenly turning up in quantity with a different matrix from a totally different pressing plant? I can't see how you can compare antiques with vinyl/styrene. Anyway we digress.

It was a shame the Winding Wheel was closed, it could have been one of the great venues, it had everything going for it, central location, choice of rooms, the top DJ's and a full house. Class venue too and the best venue I've been in. Right now there is nothing to touch Lifeline IMO. The Stafford reunion this year was special. Great to see so many people in a venue dancing and enjoying records many of them probably didn't know. Proves you don't have to hear the same old same and still have a good time

I don't think this is wholely true, yes beat ballads did gain in popularity but the up-tempo certainly didn't stand aside during the 80's. Some of the stuff Keb and Guy played just to name two of the DJ's can hardly be described as down tempo, yes they played the slower stuff but the bigger majority of spins were dancers, be them mid tempo movers or uptempo.

Richards last ever set at WC is kicking about in print somewhere, it has been posted on here in the past. It still stands the test of time and any DJ would give their left arm for a set like that, then and now.
